Once you have completed the game once, you can activate the red crystal in the hub under where your usual portal is.
Level types and enemies are randomly placed. Enemies are scaled to your level, but on the plus side you get triple the amount of special attacks. So it works out nicely.
You're awarded points for:
Pacifist Orb
Coins
Kills
I focused on the Pacifist Orbs as much as I could, as these award the most points. It took me a couple of attempts but a run of 7 levels was enough for 25,000 points. The achievement will unlock as you're still playing.

seems like all the unlocks are random. pretty annoying cause you might get some of the skills, weapon, or perks you like, but not like the others. plus the more you unlock, the more other junk you don't want that can come up. guess it encourages trying different things.
in regards to the solution: personally, on the regular mode i try to always go thru and get all pacifist orbs, then jump to the top with a warp block and kill and collect as much as i can, triggering all the alarms too. it takes longer but you level up a lot. my first time trying New Game+, i did that and got 11,000 points and reached player level 7 just from beating the first level. to compare, after dying on level 2 i tried again, and there was no warp at the end so i just finished that level and only had 2000 points. you could probably score 25,000 from just beating 2 or 3 levels I'd guess.

Dumb question can I pick the musket gun or is to just randomly given to your character?
