Improving the shelter, you will be able to build upgrades that, overtime will collect materials or food, simply build the first one (usually wood log by the front door) and wait until it fills up with at least 1 unit. Collect it and toast

Firstly find the crafting table in the basement, then use it. Under the first column is an icon for a pile of wood. Choose and construct this. Once built there should be an axe buried in a tree stump on the outside of your cabin. This will start generating wood. Wait for several minutes and then go to the axe in the stump and use it.

This is related to leveling up your Shelter. Improvements can decrease build times, increase returns from deconstructing items, and generate resources/food/materials over time. The first improvement you will upgrade is the “Wood Log”. The “Wood Log” (along with the Antenna, Rat Traps, etc.) will generate a resource over time, which you need to collect. Once the “Wood Log” generates resources, head to your Shelter’s front door where the “Wood Log” is and hold to collect the resources.
