How to unlock the Gun Freak achievement in Vigor - Definitive Guide
EDIT: You can now get crates through the season pass by playing regularly and by donating food at the shelter.
You start out with 4 weapon plans (PM, Puukko, Silver Pigeon and the Thompson) meaning you only need to obtain 16 additional plans for this achievement. Your crafting table level does not matter for this achievement. You only need the plans. To check how many plans you currently have go over to your weapon stash and scroll though each weapon. If the specific weapon says Plan Yes under crafting cost, then that is one more towards the total.
Daily Challenges are by far the most straight forward way to earn crates. The challenges will reset at the same time every day so make sure that you have either completed the challenge or abandoned it. You will not get a new challenge if an old challenge is still taking up a spot. Challenges that only award food or resources won't help towards this so its up to you whether to bother with these or not. If you are struggling with a certain quest you can always have a partner help you out.
Next up are the Supply Drops. As mentioned before, you must grab it and escape in order to get credit. The rarity of the crate can be increased for the 30 crowns and each person in the lobby has the option to do this. I have played quite a lot and have literally never seen anything higher than Purple in a solo lobby. It's going to be completely up to you whether you want to play solos or duos but I would highly suggest NOT queuing up with random teammates. You need a reliable teammate who you can trust and communicate well with in order to consistently get the crates.
Tips:
Bring a fully automatic weapon and an antibiotic into the fight with 3-4 clips of ammo. Melee weapons, Pistols and Shotguns are not optimal for fighting outdoors and in open spaces. You need to be able to put bullets down range and defend yourself.
When you grab the crate hold Y to put your weapon up to run faster/longer. If you hear someone right behind you pull you weapon out and fight back. There is no sense in dying with your back turned.
Know which exit you are going to before you grab the crate. Running around aimlessly and going the wrong way will get you killed.
On Grontheim Valley, avoid the exit on the west side of the map at all costs. Taking those ladders is a death sentence.
Under this spoiler I will include a few general strategies to get the crate. Just keep in mind that none of these are foolproof and always depends on the situation.

Crates can be obtained via escaping with the supply drop from the Outlands or via the story and daily challenges. The latter provides better quality crates as the supply drop will always be common unless upgraded in the lobby using the premium currency.
You can see which plans you have already obtained either via the Crafting Table in the Build menu or your Weapon Stash in the Equip menu.

Even if you lose and get 1000 points, you walk away with a common crate.

There are 35 weapons in the game. Every weapon can be crafted if you have the needed parts or the crafting table level, weapon plan, and materials. Plans can only be acquired through opening crates; however, you start with 4 weapon plans (PM, Puukko, Silver Pigeon, and Thompson) already unlocked. These crates can be earned through daily challenges or by securing supply drops in encounters. The crates have a set list of items that you can earn, with each crate carrying three items from the list. The list can be completed if all items are earned through the crates and a new list will be generated. It is not guaranteed that the plan you need will be in an item list.
Every weapon in the game has a specific rarity and so do the crates (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Military Grade, Special Issue). The weapon plan is generally only available in a crate that has the same rarity as the weapon; however, completing crate lists will add a new list to the crate with better items. It is possible to complete enough lists for the Common crate to start getting Military Grade items in Common crates.
You will earn the "Weapon Expert" achievement for collecting a weapon plan for each category of weapon (pistols, machine guns, submachine guns, assault rifles, rifles, shotguns, melee weapons). And once you grind out enough crates to have 20 total weapon plans this achievement will unlock. You can see your unlocked plans through the Equip menu or by pressing on your Crafting Table from the Build menu.

You are starting with the following weapon blueprints (4/20):
- Pistol: PM

And if you bought the cheapest weaponst to obtain the above mentioned achievements (7/20)
- Assault Riffle: VZ. 58 P (100 crowns)
- Rifle: Mosin Nagant (100 crowns)
- Machine Gun: Maschinengewehr 3 (300 crowns)
Total for weapon experts achievement = 500 crowns
i would suggest you to buy the following weapon blueprints (20/20):
- Melee: Vz. 58 Bayonet (30 crowns)
- Melee: UTON vz. 75 (75 crowns)
- Melee: M3 (100 crowns)
- Melee: KDV-1 (100 crowns)
- Melee: GFK (100 crowns)
- Melee: A-KM Bayonet (100 crowns)
- Melee: RM12 (150 crowns)

- Rilfe: M2 Carbine (100 crowns)
- Submachine Gun: PM-63 RAK (150 crowns)
- Submachine Gun: Grease Gun (150 crowns)
- Shotgun: Izh43 (150 crowns)
Total for Gun Freak achievement + Weapon Experts achievement = 1855 crowns
Addition: as far as I know, crowns can be gained with the help of the battle pass, crates and challenges. In addition, there is the shelter improvement which brings in around 10 crowns per day. Crowns can also be purchased with real money.
