Very simple. In the Career/World Tour, amoungst the practice options there will be a Tourney choice also.
I believe you get this after maybe 9-10 Tourney wins (~30 total games).
***YOU WILL NOT RANK UP IF YOU HAVE ALREADY WON THE TOURNEY IN A PREVIOUS YEAR***
You can see tourney's you won on the Calender view, there will be a platinum 4 star logo under the tournament name.
Use this option to progress through the game, raising your ranks with each win and on your way to the #1 spot. Typically there is a Doubles and/or Singles option. It appears that your rank raising substantially in Doubles because you are beating highly ranked players (because your partner is also highly ranked).

You will start out at #300 so it will take some time to get here but make sure that you look at your calendar, and find out when the tournaments that you can play in are. You don’t want to miss a tournament because your character is too tired to play.
