I got this after I built the ID card. Looks like it’s a random, but not 100% sure. All I know is that when a pirate starts to follow you, the next place you dock there will be a big fight with pirates. They hit hard so make sure you upgrade your health and some of your weapons before attempting this. When you do fight them you can’t go back to your ship till you detach their ship. Not sure if you have to kill them all before detaching the ship but if anyone has more info put it in the comments and I’ll update this solution 👍

EDIT: can confirm you DO NOT have to kill all the pirates, just have to disconnect the pirate ship 👍thanks to RuneSlayer4421 for the confirmation

EDIT: found out also that if you have a torpedo on you, it will destroy the pirates ship and you won’t be able to get the achievement

As MadMikeForever has said, this is doable after you craft the ID card and descend to level 2 of the nebula. Pirate ships appear and move randomly from right to left - bumping into one at a location will make them start to follow you unless you have a torpedo to blow them up. So yeah, don't stock torpedoes. They will also follow you if you use a warp key but not if you go through a wormhole, so no wormholes either.

It can be really tricky to do this on a normal ship run where you've also got other mobs and security to worry about, but there is an easier way to do it. Grab a ship full of 'unauthorised persons' and take them shopping.

Yes, shopping. The Krell-Mart - the ship with the vending machines - is a one room map and the tether is always in the opposite left hand corner as you enter the room. Go in, dash over, barge the Pirates out of the way, release the tether and get out fast. You'll still need a decent HP level but it's a low stress, sure fire way of getting it.
