How to unlock the Cognis Protocol achievement in Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr - Definitive Guide

This achievement can be very easily unlocked using a new character in the first mission.
Create a new Tech Adept and choose as background the Adept Skitarius. This class starts with Tarantula turrets in its loadout (assigned to the B-button). Choose challenge mode and when the game asks if you would like to skip the tutorial missions, say no.

The very first mission called "the lost expedition" is very short, just make your way to the objectives.
There are no gastraps or explosive cannisters in this map to worry about and it is a quite linear desert map

Try to avoid the Tyranids or call in a turret to distract them when you keep on moving. Just before the end, you encounter a small mob of enemies with a Ranged Tyranid Warrior(so nothing to worry about) which you have to defeat. Just kite them around your turret until they are all dead. Move up to the base afterwards and once you finished the mission it should unlock.

This method only takes a couple of minutes and if you fire your gun or called in the wrong constructs by accident just create a new character and try a new.

The guide is great "as is" but would benefit from one minor alteration. One of the updates since the guide was written must have changed the character creation process as now, when creating a character "Challenge Mode" isn't an option on the difficulty selection screen. You need to choose "Normal", "Normal [+1]" or "Normal [+3]" for the mission to count as "...being on your level" (as shown in the achievement description). I tried 3 times with fresh characters each time and chose "Story Mode" and it didnt unlock. On the fourth time I chose "Normal" and it worked without issue.

You don't need to read the following, it's just my speculation on why "Story Mode" didn't work for me.
I think the game also has some kind of hidden difficulty modifier as if you choose "Story Mode" as the difficulty, the game tells you that "Campaign missions are 4 levels lower than normal". If I'm correct in my speculation then it's never possible for a mission on Story Mode difficulty to be "on your level" when your character level matches the mission level. This is because the Story Mode difficulty will always technically make it "...4 levels lower...".
Anyway, whether I'm right or wrong "Story Mode" doesn't work and "Normal" does so read into that what you will.

Tried this twice, and no unlock. Have used both turrets with this and nothing. Has it bugged?

Absolutely spot on, only thing I would add is that the Tarantula Turret is assigned to B button, also avoid temptation to open the chests around the place as if you accidentally hit A too early and fire a shot, the achievement is void and you have to start over.

This one can be a bit glitchy (after reading around a bit it seems this was the same when it first came out on PC last year).

Essentially you need to complete a level using ONLY the Tarantula turrets. You unlock these when you get the Tech-Adept to level 5, but you cannot actually equip them until you get onboard Van Wynters ship - so follow the story until that happens and you're shown the Construct menu.

Now make sure you swap the existing two Constructs for the Tarantula guns in each slot - you can equip different gear etc here too if you've got the right passive upgrades. Also make sure your own character does NOT have any gear equipped that reflects damage or auto damages enemies (like digi-weapons) as they can void it too.

Now the fun part - completing a level and it actually counting. I had to do 10+ levels, doing exactly the same thing each time before this unlocked.

Firstly you need to complete a level AT OR ABOVE YOUR OWN. It seems that if you level up during a mission and that takes you over the starting level rating then it won't count. So try and do a level that is at least one level higher than your own (you can change the level difficulty from the menu before you start). I would recommend doing this on a random mission rather than a story one as a lot of the story levels see you getting other characters that help you, or finding Guardsmen that fight with you, or hacking turrets to assist etc - none of these levels will let you get the achievement as the game seems to see it as the kills being by something other than your turrets.

Once on a level do not attack ANY enemies directly yourself with either guns or melee - just don't fire at all (some levels trap you in gas rooms where you HAVE to shoot the door to escape as your guns won't - I think this voids the achievement, so it sucks if that happens). Just summon in two guns at a time to clear out each area and then wait for your ability points to recharge before moving on too far. This can make a level last a lot longer but it's the only way. Plus some of the bosses can be annoying to kill (especially if they are the type that summons in smaller goons). It also seems that if enemies get blown up by scenery explosions, or their own attacks, that this can void the achievement too. So it really is just RNG whether or not you'll get this first time.

Personally I did a random Data Purge mission with Nurgle Vanguard. As they have a lot of ranged enemies, and I could rush to each data point to hack it - then move onto the next. In the last room I just ignored the boss enemy entirely, snuck over to the last terminal - put a turret either side to distract the enemies that spawn - and then hacked it to finish the mission. The achievement popped as soon as that hack was complete.

Good luck.

That’s a good shout. There are a bunch of items that reflect or do auto-damage. Will add that.

Started a level 7 mission at level 7 and leveled to 8 during and this achievo still popped for me. So apparently as long as you started it at the requirement, you’re gold. Tried a few times before, but seems like other companions or barrel explosions fubarred and negated the chievo. A+ Guide

If you encounter a gas trap where the doors have to be destroyed to get out, you will void this achievement by hitting them (and your turrets will not attack the doors). May as well abort mission at that point...

Map desert, type purge, alderi if possible, tyranid are ok but they spawn lots. Desert has no doors very few if any exploding boxes, no side missions, no traps. Use 2 turrets for champions 3 for elite to make your life easier. Plus on desert you can kite easily to your alreasy spawned turrets.

Adding a summary of all the guides and info that helped unlock this today in 2023.

Basically my main issue was the reflect damage skill that was easily missed on one of my items. Make sure none have that.

I added 3 Tarantula boltgun, none of the spiders worked.

It unlocked on a purge map for me.

Every time I came accross rescued marines i just exited the mission, until I found with with none.

Dumping the tarantula on enemies doesnt negate the achievement. And it causes extra damage.

Hope that helps.
