Salvaging is done via the 'salvage item' option under the crafting menu.
Salvaging provides you with scrap relative to the rarity of the item(s) salvaged. You cannot salvage an item that is currently equipped to any career for a single character.
Helpful hint: Illusions function as re-usable weapon skins for individual weapon archetypes. If you have an item you intend to salvage equipped with an illusion, extracting the illusion beforehand has no cost; however salvaging an item equipped with the illusion will destroy the illusion.
