There are upgrades that you can buy that reveal all of the grub and film canister locations on the map, but if you still get stuck, follow one of the two guides below. Also note that some grubs are unobtainable until later in the game when you have the required skill so some backtracking will be necessary.

How to return/backtrack to Laboratory (2nd floor) West section for missed collectibles (two options by going out of bounds):

Once you backtrack there it also becomes possible to lift the bridge leading to the East side of the Laboratory if you missed collectibles in that section (you can also reach that East section by taking a very long way around through several floors and lifts/elevators). Make sure you activate the transport tube on the west side first and then swap an Energy Barrel from the west to the glowing pink slot of the energy generator next on the right side of the big pit (nothing will happen) and then remove the barrel from the pink slot (bridge now rises).
Every other location in the game can be backtracked by going through various floors and lifts/elevators (before taking the final transport tube to the submarine, obviously).
Bonus! Here are all the lifts/elevators destinations:
Floor 1
- north-west elevator goes to floor 3 north-east
- east-most 'elevator' (one-way drop) goes to floor 2 south
- second east elevator goes to floor 2 south
Floor 2
- south elevator goes to floor 1 east
- east elevator goes to floor 4 south
- west elevator goes to floor 4 east
Floor 3
- south-west elevator goes to floor 4 north
- north-east elevator goes to floor 1 north-west
Floor 4
- south elevator goes to floor 2 east
- north elevator goes to floor 3 south-west
- east elevator goes to floor 2 west
OK, found a video that shows how to get it. So my idea was correct, I just couldn't figure out the exact method.

For this trophy you will have to get every grub in the game, all 66 of them. There are 63 in the main area, which is essentially open world, and you can get back to, and 3 in the final area. Make sure you have all 63 before going to the submarine, as you will be unable to get back afterwards. Finding these grubs will be made a lot easier by purchasing the power up that shows grubs on the map. You will not be able to get all grubs on your first time through all areas, so don't worry about them too much until you have all power ups and are going backwards through the levels to get to the submarine.

There are a total of 66 Grubs that you must collect throughout the game. They are alive and glowing, and are your source of power for upgrading. A lot are easy to see and you eventually have to travel back through previous areas, so don't worry if you cannot figure out how to get one. The game will actually tell you to wait until later if it notices you attempting to go for it. The absolute best thing for you to do, is as soon as you have 4 grubs and get to an upgrade station, upgrade the power that shows you these on your map.

Note: As you gain powers, you'll be able to reach certain collectibles that you couldn't get beforehand. You will be backtracking. You really should collect everything that you can while you are there. There is a chance that the Laboratory has highly missable collectibles. You must get each one before you continue on. Make a backup save at the start on another memory device if you want a safer route just in case.
