Outside the Mine entrance to the northeast of Clintville is the Miner's wife. Talk to her and she'll ask you to find her husband, the Miner. He's pretty much straight north up through the mines, but there will be some dark passages so you might want to grab the miner's hat from the Old miner in Clintville.
Once you reach the Miner, try to convince him to go back to his wife. Pick the following dialogue choices to get him to follow you:
"Do you have a wife?"
"You have been down here 3 years?"
"What did you eat?"
"Shouldn't you go see your wife?"
"She thinks you are dead"
"You can't leave her like that" OR draw your gun at him
He'll then agree to follow you. Bring him to his wife and there you go.

Shouldn't you go see your wife?
She thinks you are dead.

Now he sould follow you back to his wife. It might be good to kill a few guys on your way to him, he may get shot (never had that happen to me though).”

I added the second dialogue option as well, but drawing the gun works just as well.
