How to unlock the A Closer Look achievement in What Remains of Edith Finch - Definitive Guide

can be done even after the game is finished via "story replay" as the game saves each peephole/telescope you looked through.

here is a video with all locations (not my video)

Note:
- First seven peepholes are in Edith's story (beginning of game)
- Telescope is during/after Walter's story, when you visit the graveyard

Hole in the fence isn't needed for the Achievement... thought I'd missed that one but it popped regardless at Lewis's door.

Yeah, the video is fine, but your Notes are not. First 6 doors are in the house with Edith, after the telescope, then pick Milton, and you can get the last two doors, Milton, and Lewis...

You do not need to look through fence. I didn't, but I've looked through every door. Achievement popped after Lewis door.

the True Trophies walkthrough says front door is one and the walkthrough here says fence is one. each is missing the other one yet both i guess got the achievement

also TT says there are 10 peepholes and on the walkthrough here it says 9. but this solution seems to only mention 8?????

The first one in the fence isn’t needed. There is also one missing from this guide that you need, which is Lewises. This can be found opposite Miltons door

For some reason, the achievement bugged out for me and didn’t pop for me after looking through Lewis’s door. I most definitely looked through all the peepholes. Once I finished the game, I replayed Edith’s story and looked through the fence and then the library - where it finally popped. The thing is, I definitely remember looking through that peephole...several times in fact! And I definitely waited for her to finish talking.

No idea why it bugged out, but all I can think is maybe it didn’t save it properly? I can’t see why but it’s frustrating that this achievement now shows after finishing the game...I wouldn’t have even needed a guide tbh. Maybe for the fence, but apparently that’s not needed anyway.

The description is somewhat misleading. There is only one telescope Edith needs to look through, at the highest point of the graveyard. All the other peepholes are found on locked bedroom doors. There is a peephole next to the house, to the left, on a white fence, but it doesn't count for the achievement.

There are a total of 10 peepholes you will need to look in for this trophy,

1) The front door - look in this one when you approach the house for the first time.
2) Edie's door (the library) is next to the front door. You can look in it the first time you enter the house through the garage.
3) Sven and Edie's door - on the first floor landing. You can also access this peephole the first time you enter the house, before starting any of the Finch's stories.
4) Calvin and Sam's door - next to peephole 3)
5) Gregory's door - next to peepholes 3) and 4)
6) Barbara's door - also accessible on the first floor landing before starting any of the stories.
7) Molly's door - also accessible on the first floor landing before starting any of the stories.
8) Telescope by the sea - Accessible after playing through Walter's story and exiting the house. You find this at the end of the cliff after passing through the pet cemetery and going past the statues.
9) Milton's door - After playing through Gus' story and making your way up to the top of the house you will cross a wooden bridge and see the door in front of you.
10) Lewis' door - After playing through Milton's story, you will climb another set of steps and follow the walkway straight to Lewis' door.

Make sure you look in each peephole for a few seconds until Edith has finished speaking, or looking in the peephole will not count.

There are ninone peepholes and 1 telescope to look through as you progress through the game, none of which are too difficult to find. They can be found in any order and once you complete the story you can wander around the house to find any you have missed:

  • When you first walk up to the house, go to the left of garage. The fence on the far end has a peephole. You can also look through the other side when you are there later in the game.
  • Inside the house on the first floor, there is a door to the right of the staircase. This is the library and has an arch of books over it.
  • Go up the stairs and to the right. The door on the left leads to Molly’s Room.
  • From the previous door, turn around and go back towards the stairs then around the stairs to the door by the window, which leads to Barbara’s Room.
  • Turn around and go down the hallway to the left of the stairs. The first door on the right leads to Sven and Edie’s room.
  • Keep going down the short hallway. The door on the far wall leads to Gregory’s Room.
  • The door directly to the left leads to Calvin’s Room.
  • You won’t find any more for a short while. After you finish Walter’s story, follow the train tracks to the beach, around the shore, past the house, and eventually find yourself in a graveyard. Continue up the path, past Odin’s Monument. There will be a telescope along the path on the left.
  • After you finish Gus’ story, continue up the house, past a small garden, and through the next room. Straight ahead is a door that leads to Milton’s Room.
  • Turn around and continue up the building. Turn left at the top and straight ahead is another door that leads to Lewis’ Room.

MISSABLE.

There are 9 peepholes and 1 telescope to look through as you progress through the game, none of which are too difficult to find. They are as follows:
  1. When you first walk up to the house, go to the left of garage. The fence on the far end has a peephole.
  2. Inside the house on the first floor, there is a door to the right of the staircase (it has an arch of books over it) that has a peephole.
  3. Go up the stairs and to the right. The door on the left (Molly’s Room) has a peephole.
  4. From the previous door, turn around and go back towards the stairs (go past the room with the open door). Go around the stairs to the door by the window (Barbara’s Room) which has a peephole.
  5. Turn around and go down the hallway to the left of the stairs. The first door on the right (Sven and Edie’s room) has a peephole.
  6. Keep going down the short hallway. The door on the far wall (Gregory’s Room) has a peephole.
  7. The door directly to the left (Calvin’s Room) has a peephole.
  8. After you finish Walter’s story, you walk along some train tracks, around the shore, past the house, and eventually find yourself in a graveyard. Continue up the path, past Odin’s Monument. There will be a telescope along the path on the left.
  9. After you finish Gus’ story, continue up the house, past a small garden, and through the next room. Straight ahead is a door (Milton’s Room) with a peephole.
  10. Turn around and continue up the building. Turn left at the top and straight ahead is another door (Lewis’ Room) with a peephole.

You need to look through all the door peepholes and the telescope once, start doing this as soon as you get into the house, so as not to start the game again later. The main character's commentary comes as soon as you start watching.

You need to look through the hole in the fence before entering the house
In six door peepholes immediately after entering the house (library on the first floor and 5 rooms on the second: Molly, Barbara, Georgie, Calvin, Sven and Eli)
Through a telescope in a cemetery
And in two door peepholes in configured towers after hitting the roof (Milton and Lewis)

I don’t know how it was in the PS4 version of the game, but in the PS5 version, through the selection of stories you can look at all the doors, you don’t have to replay the game
