You will automatically unlock this towards the end of the game. After you’ve beaten the four final bosses in Tramonto and the final boss in Wasteland, you will perform the Great Shift which is located on a Mountainous map (forgot what its called). When you cycle up this Everest looking mountain the achievement will pop for you.

did not pop for me. i think, you had luck and you total amount of elevation was gained during the great shift.
