Once you have your vine length upgraded to level 4 or 5, go to the bottom of the level near the checkpoint. You should be able to make a vine long enough to climb out of the checkpoint area without having to burn the boxes.
If you can, good, you can do this easily. Continue going back to the beginning of the level making vine ladders for yourself, making one straight path with no water jumps or places you have to burn through (it's not hard).
Go back and grab fire from the checkpoint, then walk back to the beginning of the level and explode the barrels (stand back to be safe)
