He doesn't need to be in your team line up for the whole run, just the last fight. Keep him in the reserves until you have charms/items to make him good

I want to mention that The Naked Gnome is not useless. He has a countdown of 2 which is the shortest in the game, stick some charms on him and he can be the most versatile companion in the game
