You know, these yellow boxes w/ grey or white lid.
When you loot them you will get money and xp.
But don't worry, some of them are refilled, when you leave the district and come back later again, so you can loot the same crate more than one time.

I played the first mission again and again and after one day the supply crates are refilled.

Any idea what the conditions (time, etc.) are for them to be available again? Often times I'm going back into a stage (just regular side mission jumping) and everything I had opened a while back still appears open.

Every area of Wolfenstein has yellow and black/yellow crates. These crates contain silver coins in them. You will collect MANY more than 200 while going for all achievements, this is not something to stress early on.
The chests do reset daily, BUT, they do not reset if you were to jump into someone else's game. They, just like collectibles, are specific to your file.

Yellow supply crates are all over each district. They are yellow crates that contain 50 or 100 coins, which are used to buy weapon upgrades. It is unknown how many crates are actually in the game, but the same crate can be opened multiple times and they will all count; open 200 and the achievement is yours. Opened crates reset every 24 hours.
Once you reach Level 30, it is highly recommended that you purchase the ‘Secrets Collector’ skill in the Mind tree for 3 ability points. It will identify all six types of collectibles on your minimap with a star icon, as well as all unopened supply crates in the current district. This will make locating everything a breeze.
This is not tracked separately in the ‘Statistics’ menu.
