UPDATE: There have been multiple reports of this achievement not working/tracking correctly lately--please read some of the later comments for some different ideas of what is happening. Keep an eye on your achievement progress tracker, and see if it is tracking properly!
This is either as easy or as hard as it sounds depending on how much you like low Tier tanks. They can be any enemies, from a mix of countries, you just have to get any 5 kills each with any 5 different Japanese tanks for a total of 25 kills. (You can sell the tanks after you get the 5 kills, not keeping all 5 at once--thanks for the reminder VegaDark541 and xxvadi!)
I personally did this with the first 5 available Japanese Tanks:
Tier 1: R. Otsu
Tier 2: Ha-Go and Chi-Ni
Tier 3: Ke-Ni and Chi-Ha
It's simply a matter of playing. I highly recommend getting the upgrades for the tanks though, and if you like close quarters fighting, the multiple shot upgrades are a must.

yeah, and I found out why. If you leave the game entirely (xbox button -> start -> close) before the post war screen, the kill does not count for the achievement, although the statistic tells you, that you got 5 kills already ... anyway, got it just now :)

Can you sell the tank after you are done with your 5 kills or do you have to keep them all until you are completely done for it to work?

Yes! Go to your tank stats screen, and scroll down to the tanks you're using. The tanks in your inventory are at the top by country, and the tanks that you've sold but previously had are at the bottom sorted by country.

No need to sell tanks for this to unlock. Play a battle with your last one and try to get a kill.
I was at 80% and I managed to push my Ke-Ni above 5 kills. No achievement.
Did a hard reboot. No achievement.
Played a battle with the Ke-Ni, got a kill. Achievement unlocked.

I can confirm that this achievement is not working.
I did kill 5 tanks with each of Japanese tanks and achievement doesn't work. I will try to destroy few more as user motter suggested. Hope it will help. Overall good solution - thx :)

ok, I got it today. This achievement pops when I bought 5th Japanese tank and destroyed 4 enemies with it. This is strange, because Microsoft's achievement progress shows 60% before it pops up. There is definitely somethings wrong with this achievement ;)

As of Feb 13, 2019: I can confirm that the tracking is working. You don't have to stay the whole match, but it doesn't count on the WoT side till the match is over. Then it took about another 3-5 min till my achievement progress moved on the Xbox side. Maybe some odd delay between servers.

Going on from Fascist Fish said I refreshed my Stats page on the WOT Console site to see if It helped at all and after I got 5 kills it would seems to make the progress come in a few minutes instead of a waiting a hour. It also might help you Que for a match after refreshing and quitting out before being placed.

As of November 6, 2023, this is not unlocking for me on the Series S. I see reference to this tracking on the X/S but only being available on the Xbox One. Mine tracked my first 3 but has been stuck at 60% despite multiple kills with both of the next two tanks. Will update if it gets resolved.

I don't know if the logic behind this achievement changed at some point or what, but I am only getting 'progress' toward the achievement when I SELL a tank I have at least 5 destroys with. I had 2 tanks with 8 destroys, but no progress. I sold both, boom 40%.
