Auto use items DO count, so octane and the "yummy" premium food can be used. The third slot should be tank specific, like a fire extinguisher for German tanks, otherwise a repair kit should work for when you're tracked. You can even track yourself if you jump off a cliff! If you want to use a tank with a diesel engine, just run two repair kits instead.

When i was playing with my AT2 i just put on:

Large Repair Kit
Small Repair Kit
100-octane Gasoline

Just take some hits (the enemy will hit your tracks) repair and the achievement unlock

You can equip a maximum of 3 consumables to a tank.

Consumables you can use are:
• Large Repair Kit - 50 gold/20,000 silver
• Large First Aid Kit - 50 gold/20,000 silver
• Strong Coffee - 50 gold/20,000 silver
• Automatic Fire Extinguisher - 50 gold/20,000 silver
• 105-octane Gasoline - 50 gold/20,000 silver
• 100-octane Gasoline - 5,000 silver
• Small Repair Kit - 3,000 silver
• Small First Aid Kit - 3,000 silver
• Manual Fire Extinguisher - 3,000 silver
Note: Some of these are tank region specific and IceFrogger1313 notes that the consumables costing gold can be bought with silver instead by pressing

These are found by pressing on the tank in the garage and then going into 'Supplies'
I went with: Small Repair Kit, Large First Aid Kit and 100-octane Gasoline.

Now tank choice doesn't really matter but I went with the French Tier II: H35 as it has lots of armour. I then took off to battle, now you need to get hit to be able to repair so look for enemies, the gasoline uses by driving. The consumables will be available once damaged and needed and will be used by pressing which ever buttons shows at the bottom with the consumable which will be: . or

Passive consumables like 105 Octane fuel, Coffe etc. also counts toward this so just equip two of theese plus small repair or small first aid kit and go into lower tier battle (T1-T2). It's really easy to take crit module/crew damage there.
