How to unlock the Hephaestus achievement in World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap - Definitive Guide

Once you get a Godlike item (you can buy one from the store), you can upgrade it in the crafting menu. Each Godlike requires a specific type of gem.

If you're like me and run out, you don't need to farm levels for more gear to salvage. Instead, just buy the store out, log out to the main menu, then log back in to buy out the store again. You should have plenty of money by the time you get to tier 4 to get multiple Godlikes to 10 (if you have the money).

While the values and elements for bonuses are random, the type of attribute is not. Certain bonuses will not appear on an upgrade so don't curse your bad luck!

Warning: It seems if you use dream shards to upgrade the item, the achievement may not work.

This cheeve will not unlock/work if you upgrade an item you buy from the store. It will only work if you upgrade an item you found.

I found a godlike necklace and fully upgraded it, but still no achievement. I did purchase in game crystals to help me upgrade to tier 10.

I picked up an item from the floor and upgraded it using dream shards and got no achievement. Turns out the item ended up being kinda crap so I salvaged it while it was maxed out and the achievement popped.

About how many gems does it take to upgrade to max? Trying to balance some crafting along the way against a (not terrible, by the sound of it) grind for gems down the road.

For gems just buy gear from the shop and DE it. I had enough for two level 10s of the same color.

Does anyone know if you can upgrade an item gifted by a friend? Especially if they have already upgraded it 4 times?

Like the other solution says, godlike items are purple or violet if you prefer.

I was about level 60 when I first found one. Then again at the end of the game when I hit level 100 I found my second one in that reward chest. Then again just playing campaign, finishing the 3 stars on tier 4 on the maps at level 100.

So, they are rare, but you're likely to find them on your way up to level 100 . However, much more important than just finding it is saving the jewels necessary to upgrade it 10 times for this achievement.

So, my advice here and there is this:

FROM THE MOMENT YOU START PLAYING THIS GAME NEVER sell an item. First because you will get enough money playing the waves and scenarios modes. Second, because the only achievement for this kind (upgrade 10x) requires you to upgrade a godlike item, not the green ones you will find which are also upgradable. And godlike items are very expensive (jewel wise) to upgrade. Of my 3 godlike items, 2 of them are upgradable through diamonds and 1 the other by rubies. And it gets more expensive after each upgrade. So, if the first one required, for example, 20 diamonds, the second upgrade will demand more 25, the third more 30 and so on. So, I'd estimate that upgrading 10 times costs approximately 425 jewels of a kind.

So, remember to SALVAGE items you don't want through the Crafting menu, because if you want to unlock all the achievements in this game you'll certainly find a godlike item, but if you haven't been saving the jewels and salvaging your unwanted items, it will take a lot longer.

Another way to obtain jewels if you have a lot of money serving no purpose is to check the store often (the deals change from time to time) and buy orange items just to salvage them. The only problem with this method is that as far as I know there's no way to tell if the orange item will award you diamond, emerald, ruby or topaz before buying it. You can only check that in the crafting screen after buying, so that's why I'd only do it that way when I had lots of money (like right now, I have over 300k).

If you find these pieces of advice useful in your way to obtain this achievement, please leave a thumbs up to let me know. Thanks!

Godlike items are purple

To upgrade go to the crafting menu. Press cn_Y to bring up upgrade cost. Each time you upgrade will cost you a certain amount of gold and a particular mineral eg diamond or topaz.

A great tip is to use your stash as this stores items across all of your characters so I started off with the marksman and began upgrading a godlike amulet. When I switched to the sorceress I used the stash to transfer the amulet so I could carry on upgrading.

Salvage all your surplus items and wear armor which boosts magic find. When you salvage look to see what resources you will recover.
Never upgrade with dream shards this will void the achievement for that item. You can however salvage dream shards this will give you some gold and a random amount of resources.

I would recommend upgrading a piece of jewellry as this can be worn by any character where as the armor is class specific.

Godlike items have ten available upgrades which will add one random bonus stat to them. You will need to use gems to do this, and it can take a few hundred of one type to fully upgrade an item. So long as you are diligent in breaking down gear you don't need, you'll get this well before finishing the rest of the achievements. In fact, it's wise to upgrade a Godlike item in every slot if possible for some of the tougher challenges.
