There are a maximum of 156 stars.
Completing each map flawlessly gives 3 stars.The key is to level up your character and upgrading your traps.
Focus on completing the maps and progressing through each tier. If you can get all 3 stars first time then great if not don't worry. Just keep on progressing.
Once you reach a point in the game when you are struggling now go and backtrack. Replay the missions that you struggled and you will now find them a piece of cake. Mop up these stars which gives you more trap points.
Play a few rounds of endless to level your character. Reaching wave 10+ will give over 100k Xp and rapidly level you up.
Make sure that you wear your armor and upgrade when possible.
I unlocked this achievement at the end of tier 3 and there were a few maps where i only got 2 stars.

The, Pants, Party
Considering you have to get three stars on all Tier 4 maps, which will be 39 stars on its own, and you have to play the preceding three Tiers to even get to that point, I doubt you'll need to do much in the way of playing older levels to get up to 100 stars in all. If after getting all Tier 4 maps maxed out you still don't have it, the Tier 1 maps will be an absolute breeze and you can easily get three stars on them with minimal effort.
