I did this first thing after beating the 13 main missions as unlocking 15 different traps requires significant progress through the game.
I did it on level 'XIII - Inkheart' as there are enough spaces and you can place them all with the Essence you're given at the start.

It will take a bit of time to unlock 15 traps. If you're short look on the traps menu and it will tell you what requirements are needed to unlock each trap.
You don't have to have the 15 different traps on the field at the same time. I built and sold one of each type of trap.
I did this after finishing the final boss and had free roam when the level was complete.

you need to have them all built you cannot just build and sell, you can do this on XIII ink heart, as the previous poster states

You can just build and sell, that's how me and my friend both unlocked this. There is a total of 25 traps so you don't need them all. I hope you're not the one to negative vote this when you're wrong.

There are a total of 25 traps in the game, throughout five different categories. You'll want to use a later level for this so there are a few different trap locations/types (at least three of each kind, or five of three kinds - depending on which traps you have unlocked). In each spot, simply build a different trap. It may take a round or two to get enough essence if you don't start with a lot.
