I picked up a pistol first try no pop 2bd try again I did with others this time didn't pick anything up bar grenades in case it looked like we might lose. Again no poo. Finally I did it with AI healed one but didn't pick anything up bar medkits and bingo so cheers

I got this on on the Jerusalem chapter 2 with the final version of the pistol I made sure I didn't run out of ammo by using refill crates.
I used no other weapons just the pistol and a medkit at the end of the mission

1) Before you attempt this achievement: Quit the game and restart it.
The game seems to unintentionally give you XP for weapons used in previous missions, preventing you from getting this achievement.
Restarting the game 'clears' this from the game's active memory.
2a) I can verify that you can place Automated Turrets, Fences, Electric Traps.
2b) I can verify that you can also use medpacks

This was the first achievement I went for so I wasn't leveled up or didn't do anything special, stayed as the starting class.
As soon as you load in, switch to your pistol with
and then only use the pistol to fire.
If you completely run out of ammo and press
to shoot, you'll pull out your primary gun. As long as you don't fire your primary gun then you should be fine.
Refill ammo crates can be found all over as you progress through the level.
(I don't know if melee/grenades/any gadget usage will negate getting the achievement.)

I can confirm that using melee and stationary turrets don't count. I captured 2 auto-turrets and set up three other auto-turrets as well as two electric grids and the achievement popped. I did not try any any equipment, other than med kits.

Did it on first level of New York. Used the starting pistol. Used defense emplacements barb wire and electric charge. Also accidentally threw a damn frag and still got it. Watch your ammo tho, it will switch to your prime when you run out.

This is perfect because the bots stand pretty far from each other so I was able to continually shoot and down them so I could revive them. Also, I kept walking through the green mist every time a hazmat zombie was killed. I also got "The Most Effective Way" achievement on this level. it was very easy to use only the pistol.

I did it in 1 mission with bots, on a light, unleveled character (shooter). I didn’t pick up anything except the initial pistol. Also keep an eye on your ammo, when you run out you will automatically switch to another weapon.
