How to unlock the Sergeant Swift achievement in Worms Battlegrounds - Definitive Guide

While this may seem like an incredibly difficult achievement at first glance realistically when you understand what sections the game is actually timing you on it suddenly becomes very doable. Also the fact it does not need to be done in a single run, meaning you can go back and improve on your times if necessary helps greatly. There are a number of game mechanics which do not count negatively towards your timer which include:

- Time spent watching your turn e.g. after throwing a grenade, watching worms die.
- Cutscenes
- Time spent charging and aiming shots.
- Aiming more specialised weapons such as the Boggy B

Essentially the only major mechanics in the game your timed for involve moving around the map i.e. walking, jumping, jetpacks, ropes etc.

It is also worth noting you can change the class of worm you use on the level by pressing up on the level select screen and pressing A on the slot of the worm you want to change the class to cycle through the four classes, which are:

- Soldier: Average Speed, Allows you to detonate grenades at any time using A.
- Scout: High Speed, Can jump greater distances and falls further without taking damage.
- Heavy: Slow Speed, Damage Boost
- Scientist: No need to use

With all this in mind please see the video below for a walkthrough of each level. In the run in the video I managed to to complete all levels in roughly just under 6mins even with slightly messing up the final two levels so there is room to make occassional mistakes but if you are following what i'm doing as closely as possible you should be able to get this done with little issue.

This is my first attempt at a solution on the site so feel free to let me know if theres anything you think I should add/change.

Just to add to the guide, I believe you have to have at least one star in all the missions. I was under 7 minutes, and the achievement only popped after I got a star in the 1 mission that had none.

Very very good guide, made it easy. The only annoying parts were the grenade level and the holy grenade level. Ended it a time of 7:12:48.

As of Dec 15th, this achievement is glitched to hell. I have roughly 6 and half minutes of cumulative time between the 10 levels. This achievement has not unlocked and it has been a solid day. Its bad enough that other achiements are unobtainable basically and the multiplayer doesn't work. I love the worms franchise but they dropped the ball on this one. This game is basically "new" and it is really flawed. Hopefully I return in a couple of days with some good news of me earning this achievement.

So I finally went back to attempt this. I replayed the first stage again, the one that had the spring board type bones to cross the map then required to kill the enemy worm withthe bat. I used the method where I was fast enough to beat it at around 24 seconds. This beat my previous time of about a minute plus. The achievement popped right after. My total time between the 10 levels was under 6 minutes tota, way less than the 8 minute mark required. This achiement is beyond messed up and I'm glad I won't have to worry about it anymore

Great video guide, I just did the campaign in the space of two days so I wasn't thrilled that there was more so your video helped to get through it in one go.

One thing I would mention is that your times are quite a bit faster than necessary, I know I got less than yours by 5-10 seconds on most of the missions (except the jet pack one which I got 8th in the world just earlier!). So for those worrying about time there is time to spare compared to this guy.

Thumbs up!

I think it would be helpful if you listed your times for each level, and the overall time you ended up with as a baseline for others to quickly read to see around what times they need.

I agree with gamerboyTHXtss, Im surprised the ratio for this game altogether is so high, especially since its been free for 4 months and the achievements aren't difficult at all. If anyone needs a TA booster, this would be the game.

No problem! :-) I would really like it if someone would test doing all but one of these offline(disconnected from internet), then doing one of them online while connected to xbox live to see if AHGreg's comment actually means that you could maybe do them disconnected to count for 0 time. It would be a great shortcut if that works!!

to confirm, you still have to have them all done under 8 minutes regardless of being connected. I just tried this. This is quite possibly THE most rage inducing thing ever, but once you get the hang of each level, and not the luck based grenade one!!!! or the bullshit climbing rope level! you can shave more and more time off! If you begin to get frustrated stop and try again later. Other than that though, fantastic guide man! just frustrating when you nail everything perfectly, and you're sat there just like but I'm doing exactly that!! why isn't it working!!!!

Thanks for posting your times shadowfox, they seem far more realistic to aim for. I was attempting to match the video times but it is near impossible unless you get a lucky bounce.

If you can get those times repeatedly though Craig.. Hats off to you!toast that would be amazing!

Ok wow so I got this achievement after I beat the first worms op mission. I actually looked into and realised all of my op missions were beaten but xbox live failed to upload my finish times thus giving me a -- as a finish time for all the levels combined. I guess after I completed the first level over again it credited me with a 25 second finish time and thinks I did this achievement in 25 seconds!

ahgreg must have encountered some other kind of a glitch, or it might have been patched or something... because i just did all the worm ops in offline mode except one, for which i had a time on the leaderboards from playing it online. i fully quit the game, went back online, and when i went to see the times, it didnt say --:-- but instead the game somehow did have all my times from playing in OFFLINE! and i even saw that "results cant be uploaded" window after every mission >_< i only got the "complete all worm ops" ach when i booted up the game in online mode. if someone else still wants to give this trick a go, maybe deleting save games might be the solution somehow... but that might just end up in a total loss of data if its not saved online in the cloud, and you remove the ONLY excisting save from your HDD :/

PS. oh and great guide dude! will defo need this, cos i love time runs, and i was gonna do this legit anyways after trying the trick regardless of it working :P

Took just a little bit of practice on a few levels, but these were my final times for the 8 levels basically on a first-run through each of them:

WW 28.28
BB 44.48
TT 43.32
FF 52.04
JJ 42.70
PP 4.02
GG 59.69
MM 74.74
SS 50.72
RR 61.01

Only level i restarted on really was the Grenadier one when i failed to get that first bounce.

I'm getting significantly higher times in my games compared to the video (around 20 seconds sometimes). Has something been patched to start counting?

Edit: even then I still managed without too much trouble lol. I followed the video as close as I could until the stage where you had the grenades on the sinking platform (Glorified Grenading), as that stage relied on too many things to get precise. So I just did that stage and the three stages afterwards in my own way until I beat them all.

Then I went back over those four stages and refined two of them, and managed to unlock this achievement.

There is A LOT of room for error with this 8 minutes, so don't feel pressured into achieving similar times to the video.

This is the hardest Trophy in the game. There are a total of 10 Worm Ops and you need to complete all of them in under 1 minute on average each. This may sound very daunting but rest assured that with patience and practice, this is easily achievable, below are my times and tips for each Op and tips for all Ops in general.

Bear in mind that you can change worm class using after selecting the worm op you are attempting, some types are better than others, Scouts are very mobile and make better use of utilities, Heavy worms are slow but cause increased damage and have a larger blast radius with all weapons.

NOTE: When you are using a weapon, from when you press fire and all the way until the end of your turn, this does not count on your time total. Only time spent staying idle, aiming, moving and navigating around the landscape count against your total time so you can use this to your advantage to get lower times by immediately firing your weapon at the start of your turn where appropriate.

Bazooka Bonanza - 44.05s
For this stage you need to try not to go for the utility boxes as much as possible as this is well you will add up time, stay where you for as long as possible picking off worms swiftly. Utilize the above tip and before long you will have a solid time. A Heavy could help here as the increased blast radius may knock enemy worms off easier.

Wiggly Walking - 26.76s
Using a Scout worm will help a lot here. See the springy lifts that shoot up after the water stops pouring? Once the water stops and the lift rises, double tap jump for extra height. Doing this means you can jump straight up to the worm you need to kill, without navigating through the various cracks and crevices on the right side of the map.

Trepid Tunnellers - 46.06s
Simply collect as many weapon crates as possible that are close to you, these contain Boggy B's and can be used to easily take out enemies that are across the map. Remember that after using and aiming the Boggy B's, this does not count as time. Using a Heavy worm here will help with the Boggy B's, but will be slow collecting the crates.

Fort Fiasco - 58.41s
For this Op you can just pick up the bunker buster and pick off every worm individually, as long as you don't take a long time aiming you will easily a achieve a time of less than a minute.

Jittery Jetting - 36.10s
Not too hard, you need to move fast but be wary of the mines scattered around and getting trapped above or under any of the wheels. Once you go up the first section and start going up the next, there will be a mine above you slightly to the left, trigger this mine and it will open a pathway straight up reducing time taken considerably. Use a Scout worm for this Op as they are the most mobile class.

Pachinko Precision - 6.56s
Aim upwards with the Holy Hand Grenade, throw it at full power and hope for the best. You will waste more time trying to be super accurate with your aiming, just spam it until all the enemy worms are dead which shouldn't take long. Make sure to use a Heavy worm here.

Glorified Grenading - 1m 6s
It gets a bit more difficult here. As each turn passes you will notice the platform you are on starts to lower, simply start with the worms higher up first and work your way down as the platform lowers trying not to waste too much time aiming or moving about.

Don't worry too much if you miss a throw or two, although my time was without missing a single throw, a heavy worm will help here as they increase grenade blast radius.

Maniacal Movements - 1m 10s
This is the hardest challenge to get a low time on, there aren't many tips I can share here as it is highly skill dependent. Just move as quickly as possible on the first section as you parachute down.

On the first ninja rope section move as fast as you can, do not worry if a mine hits you and you fall down near the water, as most of the time it will be quicker than being slow and careful here. The next ninja rope part following this is fairly easy, just be careful not to make a mistake when moving up so you don't fall and hurt yourself. Use a Scout as they are faster and make better use of utilities.

Straight Shotgunning - 56.92s
Not too difficult if you are good at using the shotgun. This is skill dependent but if you use the tip I mentioned about using your weapon and not taking a long time to aim, this shouldn't be too hard.

Ray Race - 44.05s
You will need to try this level a few times to get used to the Teleport Gun. The fastest way I found was to move down then up towards the section where the water pours down the middle of the map, fall down here and fire the teleport gun to land on the small mound to the right.

If you are good at aiming then use the shotgun to take out the worms to your right and left, otherwise use the Teleport Gun to move closer to them or knock them in the water with Fire Punch. Using a scout worm is advised.

HarryNinetyFour has created an excellent playthrough of all of the Worm Ops missions in order to get the fastest times required for the trophy.

There are 10 Worm Ops missions to be found in Local Play. You will need to complete them at a relatively quick pace to keep your cumulative time under eight minutes. You can retry and restart individual missions as many times as necessary to chip away at your total time.

This video guide is very helpful:

The most difficult trophy in the game. In total, we have 10 WormOps levels available to us, which need to be completed in a total of less than 8 minutes. The trophy requires patience and perseverance, although it can fray a lot of nerves. We have prepared a convenient video series that shows the most optimal ways to complete each level to obtain Sergeant Swift.

Important: When you use a weapon, that is, from the moment you press fire until the end of your turn, time does not count. Only pointing/idling/moving etc. time is counted while the turn timer is running.

The video sequence has tags, so you can easily switch to the level you need and start watching from the right moment.

To complete some missions faster, you can select a more suitable type of worm before starting using L1-L2 (the icon under the mission name).

The trophy is a bit buggy, I got it like this:
I completed all the missions (the result was frankly bad, but I received an achievement for simply completing it). A couple of days later I went into the game and saw that under missions there was “--:--:--” instead of time, I went into one of the missions, completed it (also with bad results, about 2 minutes) and the achievement came out, the game counted everything other missions at 0))
