How to unlock the We have a new Champion! achievement in WWE 2K17 - Definitive Guide
NOTE: You can begin a feud with the champions by doing a call out promo, going to the champions tab and selecting the current champion for your division. If you do this when you are rank 4 and win your match for the night you should move up to rank 3 and automatically qualify for a title shot. It doesn't always work, and may have even been fixed in an update.
Alternatively, you can win the Royal Rumble or Money in the Bank. To get entered in either match, you can't be locked into a feud and MUST be in the WWE World Heavyweight division. If you win the Royal Rumble, you should get a shot at the title at the following Wrestlemania. NOTE: According to ood26, if you get entered in the Royal Rumble and get a low entrant, you can quit the game via dashboard (Do NOT quit the actual match itself, it's an automatic loss.) and try again and you'll get a different, random number. Likewise, to cash in your Money in the Bank briefcase, the champion needs to be entered in a normal one on one match.

You can earn the following achievements the same way:
To make sure you get into the Royal Rumble (and, while I don't know for sure, presumably also Money in the Bank), don't be in a rivalry going into the PPV. My first year, I was locked in a rivalry and ended up just having a singles match at the Rumble rather than being in it. My second year I wasn't in a rivalry and got put into the Rumble. I also vacated my title I had prior to the event just to be safe, but I don't know if that matters or not. Once you win the Rumble, you have to play through two more months to get to Wrestlemania, at which point you will be put into a championship match.
For Money in the Bank, you have to win the ladder match. If you do, you will get the Money in the Bank briefcase. This means that, anytime within the next year, you can run in on the champion and have a fight with him after his match is over, making it a pretty easy victory for the title. This is done similarly to how a normal run in is done and can be used anytime the champion is in a singles match.
If you would like to fast forward to the Royal Rumble or Money in the Bank, there is a way to do it. When you switch which title you want to go after, you will advance to the next event. You can just keep switching back and forth and not have to wrestle at all. However, this will reset your ranking in the ladder, so if you are going after another title, don't do this. This is just a method of getting to the Rumble or MITB faster if that is all you need to do.
MyCAREER has received some improvements this year, but the grindy requirements are unfortunately back. The way you move up the rankings for titles has changed a little, but it doesn’t help much, as it is still pretty slow.
This year, according to the 2K community manager, it is based on your popularity increasing. You can increase this faster by keeping yourself ‘hot’. There are a number of ways you can do this. Consistently put on good matches and promos, occasionally change your move-set to exciting moves (you may need to purchase A-Grade move packs for this). Also, wear a T-Shirt for your entrance attire, and keep changing up what’s on it for more excitement and VC. This way you can increase your popularity multiplier shown after matches. Unfortunately having really high popularity doesn’t automatically put you at the top of the rankings when you change what belt you’re aiming for, you’ll have to keep growing every time. Beating people close to you in the rankings in rivalries can also help. When you’re either 2nd or number one contender in the rankings, start a rivalry with the wrestler or one of the wrestlers with the belt you’re after, and you should get a match at the PPV for the title. If you get a title match too early, they will reverse everything and it’ll be impossible to win.
Aside from the above general tips, getting the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is actually the easiest out of all of the belts, since there are two matches that pretty much get you a ticket to the title if you win them. The easiest is the Royal Rumble in January. If you’re in contention for the WWE WHC and not in a rivalry leading up to the PPV, you’ll be put into the Royal Rumble match. If you win this, you’ll get a title match at WrestleMania in March. I also started a rivalry with the championship prior to WrestleMania just in case. The other easy way is in the Money in the Bank match in June. Do the same as you did for the Royal Rumble, but since only 6 can be in the match, you won’t always get chosen. You could back up your save at the start of the month if you like, and reload if you’re not in the match. After you win this, you can do a run-in on the champion to face him in a match. Your opponent should already be beaten up so it’s an easy win.
