How to unlock the David and Goliath achievement in XCOM 2 - Definitive Guide

Make sure your squad consists of a ranger, and someone with a flashbang grenade. The ranger can carry the flashbang, but it will take an extra turn to get this done, since throwing will use his turn. Luckily the flashbang disorient effect lasts for multiple turns.

Do not try this without disorienting the berserker first! He will counterattack your swing, and you will do no damage.

The hardest part of this achievement is actually finding a Berserker! I found them most often on the "Save civilian" missions. Once you find one, lower his health, toss your flashbang, then melee with the ranger.

Isn't it only Mutons that can counter melee attacks? I've personally never seen a Berserker do this. Didn't need a flashbang either, only me blade.

Same for me, no flashbang needed, can just melee them with your ranger.

Ya, the Berserkers don't seem to counterattack, since my Ranger has Bladestorm (auto-melee if someone comes in range) and the Berserker didn't counter, but the Muton in the same turn did. There should be one in the Psi Gate mission, if someone is looking for one.

Pretty lame, can confirm the power suit MELEE attack does not count. It says in the discprtions "a powerfull melee attack." I just punch a berserker through the earth and it doesn't count.

You do NOT need a flashbang at all. BUT I want to add that I got to the point in the game where no more missions that berserks would show up. The last mission had a ton. It was pretty crazy, but it also helped to mind control one, move it closer to ranger, who was on the other side of the level.

An alternative solution I found was to mind control a berserker with a psi operative, whittle his health down, and then finish him off with a ranger. The berserker wont counter the melee attack, so you can knock him off without stunning him prior.

Not really a solution, more of a "letting you know"

I'm pretty sure this achievement can be gotten if a berzerker is killed by any melee attack from anyone. This includes a berserker melee kill by a lost, panicked enemy, and mind controlled enemy.

I say this since I got this achievement by knocking a berzerker down to 1 HP as my turn ended and a lost zombie ran up and finished it off.

The Berserker is a mutant that first appears in May on Commander difficulty. It has an enormous health pool (24 on Commander and 28 on Legend) and high mobility but it can only perform melee attacks. In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to kill it with a Ranger's blade attack. You can (and should) weaken the Berserker with other units before attacking it with your Ranger. Only the killing blow needs to be from the blade.

The hardest part about this one is actually getting the berserkers to spawn after their initial appearance, they seemed to show up for me more on retaliation missions. Just have some soldiers weaken it and then have a Ranger with a Sword or
finish it off. If you're having a difficult time, I haven't been able to verify this myself but if you light a berserker on fire or disorient them they shouldn't be able to use their melee (only) attack.

I don't think that fire works. But I am pretty sure that Disorient does.

You just need to shoot the berserker with all the fighters, leaving 2-3 bars of life, and the last blow must be dealt by the ranger with a sword. The trophy is yours.

A very ironic way to get a trophy
If there are two berserkers on a mission, you can take control of one and kill the other with it.
