How to unlock the First Blood achievement in XCOM 2 - Definitive Guide

For this achievement you need to enable the tutorial. You have to play on rookie - commander difficulty to be able to play the tutorial.

Once the tutorial mission starts there is not much to do. Everything is scripted and you just have to follow the mission markers. As soon as you have finished the mission the achievement will unlock.

One word of warning though: As mentioned in the comments, enabling the tutorial will void the "the untouchables" achievement (complete a game without loosing a soldier) as there are two soldiers inevitably dying in the tutorial.

I can confirm that playing the tutorial voids "the untouchables" achievement as the scripted soldier deaths were the only deaths I had during my first playthrough and the achievement did not unlock.

When you start a new game, you are given the option of playing through the tutorial (unless you select Legend difficulty). The tutorial mission is rather short and all of the events and actions within the mission are scripted,but the "tutorial" actually continues well into the main campaign by giving you suggestions on how to build your base, what to spend your money on, the aliens you encounter etc. You are free to play through the entire game this way but you only need to complete the first mission to unlock this trophy.

It is advised to disable the tutorial on all of your playthroughs. There are two reasons for this:

 

  1. The tutorial forces you to do certain things that you may not want to do (usually related to research or base building) and can actually make the game harder.
  2. Playing through the tutorial negates The Untouchables, despite you having no control over the events that take place in the first mission. As such, it is best to simply play through the tutorial once but play through a few extra missions to get the hang of things if you want, then delete the save file and start a new game with the tutorial disabled.

I assume that the trophy is not compatible with the The Untouchables / Untouchables trophy, since in the tutorial (training) they force you to kill two recruits who are displayed in the game (FightersMemorial).
I suggest: complete the training and get the achievement, then start a new game without training and play with peace of mind that the Untouchables trophy will appear.
