Kill 500 aliens. (does not have to be in same game)

How to unlock the Pile 'Em Up achievement in XCOM 2 - Definitive Guide

The achievement seems to track kills across multiple playthroughs. You should get this simply by playing through a single campaign. Possibly 2 depending on the difficulty you have chosen.

It's also possible to grind the 500 kills in a single mission (although you will experience some significant lag as the body count increases).
One of the dark events you'll experience is a UFO that moves across the globe hunting the Avenger. By letting it attack the ship you'll be forced into a mission that requires you to destroy a relay while defending the Avenger's hanger doors. The benefit of doing the grind in this mission rather than a blacksite is some of your reserve troops will be deployed as well over time.

Focus on killing all the enemies on the map including those guarding the relay. The Advent will start sending in reinforcements every turn. Simply move your troops to the landing zone and go into overwatch. Rinse and repeat.

It does actually say in the description it can span multiple playthroughs

Does it? All I'm able to see in the description is "Killed 500 enemies". Doesn't mention anything about multiple playthroughs.

Achievement descriptions can be different depending if they are locked or unlocked.

Locked achievement description: “Kill 500 aliens (does not have to be in the same game)”
Unlocked achievement description: “Killed 500 enemies”

Just finished a game - 633 kills it says, yet no achievement. Anyone else run into this?

I finished a Legend run with 420 kills but the Trophy solution on playstationtrophies.org states that kills on this difficulty setting don't count.
My second run was beating Commander before July 1st with 160 kills.
I'm now on my 3rd run on Rookie doing the mop up and getting Shen's and the Alien Hunter DLC achievements.
The achievement hasn't unlocked so far.
I used the infinite turns save glitch for my first two runs and I'm wondering if this prevents the achievement from unlocking.
Any help is appreciated.

When my Xbox idles it shows me the Pile 'em up achievement as close to unlocking but my achievement stats in the Xbox App state that I have 1400 kills.
Any suggestions?

Edit:
It finally popped at around 1600 kills total.

This trophy should come naturally. Each mission has a random number of aliens but I found most missions have somewhere between 8 and 15 (some have a lot more) and you will need to play through dozens of missions in each playthrough. I received this trophy on my first playthrough but it works across multiple campaigns so don't panic if it doesn’t pop before you reach the final mission.

it is the aliens that the Advent soldiers do not count...

update: after the first playthrough, the statistics showed 800+ kills, but I didn’t get the trophy, I thought that only aliens were counted, it turns out that’s not the case or the trophy is buggy, on the 2nd playthrough in the 1st mission I killed an Advent spearman, the trophy dropped... it’s not clear how it’s counted

If this is the last achievement you have left (like me), then the easiest way to farm is at the Shen factory, on the first level. We don’t send a squad on the elevator, but farm robots that come out every turn. It's long, but it's the easiest way. There is also a mission where we defend ourselves from a UFO attack on the Avenger, there are also endless reinforcements.
