How to unlock the Nick of Time achievement in XCOM 2 - Definitive Guide

After you get the 'Stay With Me' perk in the Tactics School, create a save game during a mission, then throw rockets and grenades at a friendly until he/she is downed.

Click the right thumbstick to call down a skyranger, pick up the bleeding out character, and evac. Once you pop the achievement, you can revert to your old save.

There's a glitch of some kind that makes it impossible to pick up a bleeding out soldier. It won't let m do it even when I'm literally on top of them.

So I got this achievement quite by chance this evening.

From what I can tell as other solutions state, explosive damage will outright kill instead of causing a soldier to bleed out. The same goes for Viper Binds the Mutons' execute ability.

I had my Grenadier positioned by a car on a Retaliation misson (My very first as it happened) and she was attacked by a faceless - He probably took 3/4 of her health, and caused the car to explode but that did not cause extra damage, and she went into the 'Bleeding Out' stage.

Once a soldier begins bleeding out you'll have 4 turns to evac him/her. You MUST evac the soldier, simply completing the mission will not pop the achievement, you must select one of your soldiers, press RS to select an evac zone and have the soldier carried and evaced - This popped the achievement for me immediately.

I've heard that the soldiers chance of bleeding out depends on their will as well as how they are injured - Additionally you can increase the chance of a soldier bleeding out by purchasing the 'Stay With Me' perk in the Tactics School.

Easier to do if you get buy the "Stay with me" perk from the guerilla tactics school to make your soldiers more likely to bleed out instead of dying outright.
Step 1. Get a soldier almost killed, put them in bad or no cover or something.
Step 2a. If on a mission without a set extraction point there is a button to call the skyranger and deploy flares in an open area of the map. Place an extraction zone, walk a soldier over to the one bleeding out, pick them up walk to the extraction zone you placed and select the evacuation option and those soldiers will be removed from the tileset.
Step 2b. If on a mission with a predetermined extraction point, you're going to have to carry them all the way to the extraction point and extract them in a manner similar extracting an unconscious enemy vip.

When a soldier's health is reduced to zero, they are either killed or put into critical condition. It is not clear what the chances of this happening are but you can increase the odds of a soldier not dying by purchasing the "Stay With Me" upgrade from the Guerrilla Tactics School. If a soldier is put into critical condition, he or she will collapse to the ground and be unable to move. A timer will appear over the body to let you know how long before the soldier bleeds out. As with most things in XCOM 2, "time" is measured in number of turns and you only have three turns to rescue the soldier. To unlock this trophy, pick up the fallen soldier with another unit and call in an EVAC by pressing . You must do this before the bleed out timer reaches zero, which will permanently kill the unit.

The trophy is easier than it seems at first glance.
I advise you to start, after you have built the Guerrilla School, to study the tactics of Hold on, Fighter (it is more likely that a soldier will be left to bleed rather than die right away). To study tactics, it is enough to have at least one Major in the squad.
Next, we wait for some easier task (defense from attack, evacuate a VIP, or arrange sabotage at a facility) and before evacuating the squad, you can expose the soldier to fire. If he dies, then we reload the last auto-safe; if he bleeds (there will be a red cross near the body), then we run up to the wounded man with any nearest soldier, grab the wounded man and run across to the evacuation zone.
Please note that any soldier who reaches the evacuation zone does not end his turn and can safely evacuate, even if he is carrying a wounded man on his shoulder. As soon as you climb the cable, they will give you a trophy.

Mission to blow up an enemy object.
They planted a bomb, caused an evacuation, saved near the evacuation point, threw grenades at one of their fighters, when his health ran out, he fell bleeding for 4 turns, we take him, bring him to the evacuation zone, get the trophy and load up.

The trophy is extremely random. It may happen by chance, or you may spend a day practicing on the desired mission and not get it. There is no dependence, just Chinese randomness. To complete it you need: 1) a mission with evacuation, preferably not a quest (to cause an evacuation anywhere). 2) Have a bleeding perk in a partisan school (major required). The second requirement is optional, but there are more chances with it.
