How to unlock the Poison Control achievement in XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Definitive Guide

Poison Control: Cure poison on 5 soldiers in a single mission. Single player only.

Despite the fact that the achievement makes it sound like it has to be 5 different soldiers, it in fact can be the same soldier. You need medikits to cure poison, and due to the medikit making the holder immune to poison you have to either have 5 soldiers with medikits and just have 1 soldier get poisoned over and over, or have a support class with the sergeant 3 medikits ability (or two supports to make it even easier).

The easiest way to get poisoned is via thinmen, and on the escort missions as it seems they are the only alien that spawns for those missions even very late in the game. In my opinion its much easier to just kill a thinman and run through the poison, cure it, and then use the second action to run through it again. The poison cloud from their death only lasts 1 turn so you have to be quick.

Good luck!

I got the achievement right after healing the poison the 5th time.

And I did it with a single solider, so I'm not sure why you didn't get the achievement. Though I believe its impossible for 5 soliders to get healed of poison in a single mission either way due to the medikit making you immune to poison, and so that leaves 1 person to heal 5.

Just gonna add that it poison lasts 2-4 turns in Impossible difficulty.

You could also use mind control and use one of them to do the free aim poison cloud.

Thin men also seem to be the only enemy that spawns on bomb defusal missions as well, which for me weren't available until relatively late in the game. They tend to be there in reasonable numbers though, certainly more than the escort missions - normally about 7-8 prior to defusing the bomb, with a further 3-4 appearing once you have deactivated the bomb.

I tried doing 3 soldiers for the 5 times and it didn't work. So I'm thinking each one has to be posion'd then healed.

Don't forget to avoid certain armour types... I tried last night while everyone was wearing titan armour and completely forgot that instils immunity to poison lol!

I loaded a final mission save, unequipped the titan armor from all my guys, and mind controlled the thin man at the near end of the final mission. You can get the cheeve without finishing the mission - it pops as soon as you use your 5th medkit to cure poison. I'm not sure what the "medkit makes you immune to poison" is about as I'm pretty sure my support guy got poisoned with the rest of them in the cloud.

I agree with ThePootermobile all my guys had health kits and they all got infected by the poison the thinmen were dishing out....

Agreed with previous comments. Mind controlling a thin man makes this much easier. I got this during a VIP rescue mission late in my playthrough. 6 squad members including 2 support units carrying 3 medkits each. I just huddled everyone together and used the mind controllers thin man to keep them in a cloud of poison while my support units did their thing.

I just want to add that curing a VIP counts toward the five "soldiers".

I found it the easiest to have 3 support guys with med kits/titan armor and another soldier (heavy) with crappy armor (4 total soldiers). Loaded up a target extraction on easy. Went up to a group of thin men and hunkered down the support guys and left my heavy out in the open. The thin men just kept poisoning the heavy. When my heavy's health got low from the thin men shooting him, I just healed him since I had several med-kits to spare. Took me 10 minutes my first try.

There is definitely a bug with the med-kits making you immune to poison irrelevant of the armour. I did several retries of a defuse the bomb mission and every soldier that had a med-kit was immune each time. On one try I even had a support who was immune, moved her into a poison cloud to heal someone and she wasn't poisoned, used her last med-kit and she was poisoned straight away.

It's not a bug. It's intentional, carrying a medkit makes you immune to poison

This may not be obvious, but when you use the med kit if it doesn't say "cured poison" then it doesn't matter if the guy was suffering from poison or not. One of my soldiers only lost one hit point, and then I healed him and it did not say "poison cured". So make sure it says "poison cured" five times. I also recommend the bomb defusal missions, as you can easily run up to the thin men.

Thank you for the tip to use the General Van Doorn council mission for this. I only faced Thin Men in this mission, which made it very easy. One thing I found useful (though I appreciate it is very situational) was to Mind Control one of the Thin Men so I had access to the poison-spitting ability, allowing me to control how my squad got poisoned.

Thank you! I couldn't work out why my guys weren't getting poisoned, figured it was Easy difficulty. My problem was everyone had medpacks :)

The easiest way to do this is on an escort mission with Thin Men. Have six soldiers in your party, at least two of them with medkits. At the start, bunch up your four non-medikit soldiers and allow a Thin Men poison them. Have your Support cure them five times and you will get the trophy. If you need to be poisoned again, you can kill a Thin Men, run your soldier in the mist that gets left behind.

It should be noted that soldiers wearing Titan armor or carrying medkits are immune to poison attacks and won't be targeted by thin men with said poison attacks.

This one seems harder then it sounds, but rest assured that it isn't. The best map I found to do this on was the escort mission with Thin Men. Have six soldiers in your party, two of them with medikits. At the start, bunch up your four non-medikit soldiers and allow a Thin Men poison them. Have your Support cure them five times and you will get the trophy. If you need to be poisoned again, you can kill a Thin Men, run your soldier in the mist that gets left behind.

Give 5 soldiers a first aid kit, then look for a mission where there would be Thin Man (long, thin aliens). When such a one dies, a cloud of poison remains from him. Each soldier in turn passes through the cloud, is poisoned, and heals the one who walked in front of him. The first one then heals the last one. To take 5 people into a team, you need to unlock an upgrade at the officer school - it’s inexpensive.

Under no circumstances should you give first aid kits to everyone!! Because anyone who carries a pharmacy with them will become immune to poison!

It’s easy to do in any operation where there are “dead bodies”.....I did it at the SOVIET operation on September 17, 2015. “vengeful palace” evacuation of Anna Sing, there are only “dead people” there, so 5 first aid kits and no problems (well, don’t forget to wear worse armor).

Got it towards the end of the game in an escort mission. Very easy!

Two support units = 6 first aid kits. One strong psionicist in psionic armor, it can be penetrated by poison, unlike titanium. We take control of Thin Mana and spit poison at ourselves (psionics), while bringing him closer. Two support units heal while we psionically run across the cloud, then the cloud melts and the “skinny” one gets out of control, we kill him and get another cloud, we run on it again and heal. At the same time, the heavy, sniper and assault (in my version) keep the situation under control. Ideally, you still have an extra first aid kit in reserve, there’s plenty of time to complete it, and there’s no need to remove anyone’s armor.

The hint above is inaccurate, you don’t need to poison 5 different fighters, you can do just one. The main thing is that during 1 mission he is poisoned 5 times and cured 5 times, or one fighter is poisoned 2 times and the other 3. You need at least 2 fighters with first aid kits (2 supports with an increased number of first aid kits, then you can heal 3 times. The ability unlocks at 3rd promotion).

We find Thin man (Smith agents from the matrix, but in purple suits), kill them (you can hide behind something and stand in a group, then they will spit poison at you, but this is a tedious and unreliable method) and after killing Thinman there will be a cloud of poison (WARNING!!!! The cloud disappears after 2 turns on easy difficulty, so hurry up).

Before the mission, remove the Titanium armor; in it, the fighter is immune to poison. According to my personal impressions, Thin man is the most popular on escort missions and assignments from the council.

We are studying both additional places for the detachment at the officers' school. We assemble a full squad of 6 people. We take into battle two Support class fighters with the “Combat Medic” perk (which allows you to use the first aid kit not once, but three). Or one Support class fighter with a “Combat Medic” and two additional slots, in which we take 2 first aid kits. We are looking for the alien Thin Man, who can poison at a distance and leaves a poisonous cloud in his place after death. We are poisoned - we are treated
