How to unlock the Smooth Criminal achievement in Yakuza 0 - Definitive Guide

This is a missable achievement in chapter 3.
This guide is from the guide I used on the ps4 version from psnprofiles.

After leaving The Grand in Chapter 3, your objective will be to head over to Odyssey, but before you do so, there are three NPC's scattered around Sotenbori you can talk to in order to gain information that will be useful for the negotiation with Yamagata. Check the map below for the locations of the NPC's; they've been numbered. They can be spoken to in any order. Here's a pic from psnprofiles

Note: It's recommended that you make a save before you enter the club because it's possible to mess up the next part.

After you've spoken to all three NPC's, enter Odyssey and continue on until you're seated at a table and given the chance to look around. Now you must look around the club and check everything you can such as the 2 tables that are filled, the empty one right next to them and the table right next to you. I don't know if looking at Mr. Libido dancing on the stairs dancing counts but look at him as well just to make sure. Once this is done, continue on with the story. You will receive this achievement when you enter The Grand near the beginning of Chapter 4.

Now you must look around the club and check everything you can such as the different tables.
You can only check the four tables. One is empty and two are close to each other next to the empty one. The other one is in front of you. Why leave it so vague? Just to be the first to "write" a guide - even though you didn't unlock it yet?

You don't need to look at Mr. Libido. Just the three filled tables and the empty one.

It doesn't work. Dude tells me I got three hostesses and nothing. Hard reset, which fixed the first missable achievement does nothing. I totally wasted my time with the substories. Ugh... I'm so mad right now. Imagine putting out a game without actually making sure the achievements actually work.

It seems like all versions on Xbox had a problem if you had instant-on as your power mode on Xbox. Also had people saying if you dashboard quit the game without exiting to the menu it affects achievements.

That did the trick! I saved my game just before going into the Grand in Ch 4, and ran around doing side stuff in the off chance some solution would pop up here. Following your advice, I saved, exited the game to title, quit the game from the dashboard while it was on the title screen, and loaded the save back up. Went into the Grand and achievement popped! Thank you for that tip!

I have played and gotten all the achievements in Kingdom Come Deliverance and the exact same bug was present where instant on would screw up some achievement tracking, except it was much much worse of a problem in that game.

I never knew about that problem in Kingdom come Deliverance but people on the threads on this game were complaining about this and found the problem a few days after launch. I sent this to sega support hopefully it gets fixed soon.

I messed it up first time but have carried on with the game quite a bit, so I am going back to a save I made before entering odyssey to get the achievement, what worries me is will this mess up the win all achievements achievement as it will be on a different save file??

Having missed this my first time through, I assume I can unlock it in my legendary playthrough?

I just went back to the game (started completely over as well, to refresh my memory) because I really enjoyed Kiwami. I made it back to the spot where I'm supposed to get the achievement, and it... ahem... unlocked. clap

No since it was originally a PlayStation game and the complete all achievements one is the platinum in that version, there is no coded restriction based on the file. Also one achievements requires a second playthrough on Legend difficulty and you can't do new game+ for that so you have to use multiple saves regardless.

This isn't unlocking for me as well. I reloaded a save I had from before I went into Odyssey. I talked to all three people for the information beforehand, I make sure to look at all 5 things (did one run looking at just the 4 tables, same result) and got to the Grand in Ch 4 where the doorman greeted me and said all the things confirming that I should be getting the achievement but it doesn't unlock.

Edit: I even had a save from right when Ch3 starts, right at the intro title card of the chapter. Blew through the chapter again and followed this guide to a T, even went to the informants in the order on the map here, got all the same dialogue indicating that I should be getting the achievement (the doorman couldn't believe it, he said the trade wasnt fair to Odyssey because we got Nozomi, their number 2, and some other girls), but nothing.

For the people it worked for, what platform are you playing on?

Little clarification: You can't look at your own table and the one on the right has two observation points, one per sofa. There's also a time limit of around 3 minutes before the woman comes and she comes right away if you observe everything before the time is up.

This trophy is missable.

Before you go to the Odyssey for the first time as Majima in chapter 3, you need to speak to three different people on the streets to get intel. One of them is on the western bridge, one is on a street corner on the southern end of the eastern bridge, and one is near the southern taxi. Majima will give you a little speech letting you know that he's ready to go to the club once you talked to the last one.

Save your game at this point, and don't save over it until you confirm that the trophy popped.

Inside the Odyssey, you then need to scope out 4 tables. I think there are two on the right side near each other, another father to the left that's empty, and the final one all the way to the left. There may be a time limit on this, so if you don't get all 4 quickly enough I believe it's possible to miss the trophy. You won't know, though, until a bit later. Once you go back to the Grand at the beginning of Chapter 4, that's when the trophy pops. The trap here is that the game prompts you to save at the end of chapter 3, and if you overwrite your save, you won't be able to retry if the trophy doesn't pop without starting a new game.
