How to unlock the Exposed Dragon achievement in Yakuza 3 Remastered - Definitive Guide

The minigame most people dread when trying to 100% a Yakuza game. For this achievement, you’ll need to win with only 1 tile exposed. I’ll try my best to explain the terminology as best as I can to make it sound simple. There is 2 places to play Mahjong at Mahjong Camp in Ryukyu and Orchid Palace Mahjong in Kamurocho. To make this slightly easier before you start playing Mahjong change the game rules to quarter game and turn all rules off so that the AI can’t win super easily with kuitan and so you won’t have special red numbered tiles appear in your hand. There are 2 ways of getting this achievement. 1 way of doing this you’ll need to call 1 kan (4 of the same numbered, wind, or dragon tile. Note: you can call kan on if you have called a pon and then drew that same numbered/wind/dragon tile and hit X to bring up the prompt to call Kan) 3 pon’s (Having 2 of the same tiles and then stealing from someone who just puts down the same tile which creates a 3 of a kind) or chi’s (3 of a certain tile type rather it be numbers, bamboos or dots in ascending order, for example, you have a bamboo 7 and 8 and someone just put down a bamboo 9 you can steal it) and last of all you’ll either need to get a pair with your last remaining tile which can either be won by calling Ron (stealing someone else tile they just put down to win) or by calling tsumo (drawing a winning tile on your turn). There’s still lots of RNG to this minigame but hopefully knowing what hand you need helps even a little bit. Here’s a video of someone getting it if it helps imagine what your hand might look like doing this method
The other way of getting this achievement is by having a winning all triplets hands which means you need to have all pon’s and your last piece must be a pair. This is how I got my trophy on PS4 version of the game

Thank you for taking care of this, I was on my way to create the guide haha!

Being a Grand Master at Japanese Majhong, I can tell you that the game is rigged. The players in Okinawa start with insane hands and discard all the tiles you need to complete even the basic hand. The RNG is also awful.

But, no need to worry, the Majhong parlor in Kamurocho (ranked matches) has a way lower difficulty. You can “easily” complete both this achievement and the 50,000 points in one match if you play matches between rank 18 to 27. The game literally gives you the tile you need every single time.
So, once you’ve learned how to complete a hand and how Majhong works in general, head to Kamurocho and play games consecutively (50,000¥ as an entry fee, you will be able to play as much as you want without buying sticks).

Ps: I recommend keeping the Kuitan ON for the ranked matches, it will greatly help you if you’re new to Majhong. And don’t forget to press X every turn to see if you can trigger a Riichi. (Only for the 50,000 points completion, you don’t want that for the Achievement).

Thanks for the guide! Why do you need kan for the first method? You just need a hand worth one yaku right?

It's how I originally did it when I first played it. Also, I always have the 2 han minimum rule on cause the AI will take any cheap shot they can to win.

Just stopping by to once again express how this minigame is rigged. This is my 4th Yakuza title and the more I play Mahjong, the more I learn it and.....The draws are still rigged, which I felt in 0. There are, what, 150 tiles and as I sit here trying to get this achievement, I have 4 of a kind in my discard within 8 turns, and over half of my tiles are repeats from discards.

When my discard pile has an all pairs hands, something is rigged.

Just wanted to say, your solution gave me enough info that was I willing to try this godforsaken minigame again, and through no fault of your guide, I will be ignoring Mahjong once again, lol.

At least you won't have to worry about mahjong all that much in Yakuza 5 or in Judgement since cheat items are in there.

I've had a hand with all chis twice now and my last tile gets the same one played by another player but it doesn't give me the option for Ron, I'm so confused..

I finally got this after searching forums for advice. I had 2 han minimum off, kuitan on and I aimed for all simples (2-8 point tiles) and got rid of the rest. I then got combinations of chi and pin and ended the game with a tsumo on a pair of 2s - it would not let me Ron even though there was an opportunity. Hope that helps someone as I really struggled to understand how to do this.

After reading these comments and a few reddit/steam threads, I did this achievement in Kamurocho, and the 50,000 in Ryuku, easy table. The above options that Tackytics posted are what I used. The more hands you learn how to make, the easier it is. I'd imagine by this point if you're on the 3rd game and have completed the previous ones, you have some mahjong knowledge, so it's very doable.

That would mean you were in furiten, making you unable to go out via ron. You probably discarded one of the tiles you were waiting for prior.

It's more fun once you learn how to play it but quite a lot of people don't know how to play it and the game isn't great at explaining how to play it. Also, doesn't help when the game wants you to get specific hands in certain games either for achievements or for just a specific challenge on the completion list.

Playing it the first time in 0 many years ago I originally hated playing Mahjong because I couldn't understand it. Took a little bit of research to understand how to play it but now I enjoy it quite a bit each time. I even considered getting a full mahjong set because I enjoy it so much. Only issues are that it doesn't explain it too well and sometimes the AI straight up feel like they are cheating when you're playing. So far I have enjoyed from zero through Kiwami 2.

Obtaining this trophy requires stealing tiles via "pon" or "chi" four times in a single hand. This will leave you with four melds one concealed tile; you will then need to complete your hand by drawing or stealing another of the same tile.

Note that you must do it in that order in order to receive this trophy. If you try to form a hand whereby you already have the "pair", with the goal of stealing the final tile, this will be a winning hand, but it is considered a "ron" instead.

The tile you are banking on to find a pair of is important to consider; look at the discarded tiles and pick one that hasn't been already discarded a few times, or has been exposed in a meld. There are 4 of each type of tile in a standard Mahjong set.

Be aware that your melds collectively need to have some points associated with them, otherwise you may not be able to complete a hand. There are a lot of complexities to Mahjong scoring rules that I won't get into here, but as a general rule of thumb, you want a triplet of dragon tiles, and/or a triplet of wind tiles in any hand that is built by stealing.

Note that unlike some other Yakuza games, there is no cheat item for Mahjong in Yakuza 3, so you're going to have to see this one through with determination and luck.

You need to declare pon, kan or chi four times in one hand and then wait until someone throws a pair to your tile. In the mahjong settings, do not forget to disable the "Two Han Minimum" rule.

You don't have to steal (ron) the last chip. It is enough to make four pon/chi/kan in any variation and end the hand with tsumo (win).
