How to unlock the Way of the Pachinko King achievement in Yakuza 4 Remastered - Definitive Guide

The pachinko machines in this game are absolutely weird and can be hard to understand if you don’t know what you’re looking at like most did when first playing it either in this game or in Yakuza Dead Souls. To unlock this achievement, you must play the pachinko minigame at the Volcanic Volcano to get 500 balls, and then trade them in for the trophy item. The easiest way to get the balls to trade in for the prize is to first get the Get Rich Quick Card cheat item, found in Underground Locker F4 (can be found on the eastern rooftops, northeast of the Pink Alley stairs, amongst some potted plants.) or by getting the S Item Pack 02 after beating the story (must talk to bob who's at Naomi's Palace to pick it up he’s south of stardust and right in front of the fortuneteller).

Before we do this, make a save in case something doesn’t go right. There are two types of Pachinko machines, which are superficially different but essentially the same. When starting the game, use the Get Rich Quick card. To play pachinko, adjust the speed control (bottom right corner) with left & right on the D-pad to about 45 - 50% on the Aladdin Destiny EX machine and 33% on the Virtua Fighter MVJC machine, and leave it there. This affects the speed of the balls that drop around the left side video screen, which hopefully land in the small pocket in the center, just below the video screen. When one ball lands in the pocket, the slots start spinning. Immediately press B to preserve your balls, and watch what happens in the center. If a fight breaks out, you're supposed to mash X, but the Get Rich Quick Card guarantees a jackpot success in the slot spin.

Once you see the three numbers line up and a "Round 01" appears on the screen, press B again for the machine to continue dropping balls into the top pocket and a middle pocket that occasionally closes. As they make it into the pockets, the number of balls you have should start growing. When the machine reaches Round 16 the jackpot ends. Hopefully, this will have earned over 1,500 balls. Quit playing and save if you were successful. Go to the exchange clerk and buy the trophy. You might have to reload your save and rebuy the trophy cause this achievement might not unlock when you buy it the 1st time.
Here’s a video if you just want to see someone playing the virtual fighter one normally

Same here with needing to reload to get it to pop. Popped immediately after purchase (the second time).

Just here to echo what everyone else is saying. Use the item, buy your balls, get the jackpot, exit the mini game, leave and save. Purchase the trophy, dashboard, reload save, purchase again. I tried purchasing without doing this and it didn’t pop.

Didn't have to dashboard but still had to save, buy, load, buy again to get it to pop.

I see a trophy that costs 500 balls, not 3,000...am I missing something?

I'm guessing they must've changed the amount from the PS4 version. I'll try to get see if buying that trophy unlocks the achievement. I just need to get the cheat item when I get on and if it is the 500 one I'll update the guide.

I can confirm that you only need 500 balls to get the trophy for this achievement. However, I was still in very early game when I got it, and the description for the item said it was "selling at a reduced price". I don't know if the price increases as the game goes on, so it may be best to get this as early as you can.

So far at least until part 3, it's still 500. I'll do a test to see if it increases on the finale or if it increases in premium adventure.

Bought this twice now during Chapter 4 for 500 balls, no achievement either time, hard reset my Xbox, tried reloading a save with it already aqquired and reloading an old save and getting it again. Anyone else having issues with this?

EDIT: reloaded again, must have just been server issues. Can double confirm the 500 ball trophy does count for the unlock! Create a save once you have the balls for it just to be safe.

I tried buying it twice and it didn't unlock, so I'll have to try getting it and then saving and reloading, hopefully that works for me too

I finally did get it, I had to get the balls, make a save, then reload that save and then buy the trophy 🙄

So I finally finished the game and checked the pachinko parlor in premium adventure and it seems like they permanently reduced the price of it to just 500 balls. So definitely an improvement.

I just purchased the trophy and nothing.

Edit: I had saved it after hitting the jackpot, so I exited to the main menu and reloaded, and I tried it again and the trophy unlocked.

Thank you for the notice about saving before buying the trophy. Achievement unlocked at my second attempt to buy the trophy.

Still a little buggy. Definitely save after playing but before cashing in. I had to reload once and repurchase the trophy for it to unlock.

Very glitchy, done this 3x now with killing the game each time and it still hasn’t unlocked. Maybe will try to restart the Xbox. I also somehow got the completed the finale achievement, but not the completed chapter 4 one 🙄

So, this glitched for me too. I'm not sure if there's anything to my theory here, but the first two times I bought the trophy, I pressed the right arrow once, to indicate I wanted to buy once of the item, and then purchased. No achievement.

The third time, I purchased using the A button, which takes your cursor directly to checkout. Achievement popped. I didn't experiment any further than that, not really a good enough sample size to be a fix. But if this is being buggy for anybody, maybe try that?

I never bought the trophy beforehand but I dashboarded after getting the balls as a safety precaution and it popped first try.

Had to buy 2 times. This achievement is definitely messed up on Xbox.

All the glitches mentioned here still remain. Save before, do the method, save after. Quit out and reload.

However, trophy is now at reduced price. 500 balls!

A confusing trophy, at first it’s not entirely clear what to do.
You get a cheat item for pachinko (like Bob gives in his sets), which gives a guaranteed victory. Save before doing this. Go to Volcano, select a pachinko machine (I played Aladdin), immediately use the cheat item, place a bet (twist the handle on the right, which then pops out the balls). When an event starts (in my case it was a cutscene with Aladdin and other characters) you need to do something, I don’t know exactly what, so I just pressed all the buttons. If you get more than 500 points in this event, exit the pachinko and buy a trophy from the seller.

In order not to spend half of my life studying and understanding [Chinese] Japanese pachinko tricks, we act according to the following scenario.
We go to the eastern rooftop and in the right corner we look for the key to the UNDERGROUND box f4.
We go to the subway and get a cheat item.
After that, we go to the pachinko, which is stored in the nearest booth (in case of unforeseen circumstances).
We launch pachinko with a fighting game, buy 250 balls, launch a couple of balls and stop.
A psychedelic scene begins on the screen and continues for some time. As soon as the “casino slots” are spinning on the screen, then the selected character fights with someone. After this, something in the style of an anime opening will begin. While the music is playing, we launch the balls again and watch how their number in the upper right corner increases. As soon as we have accumulated 500, we exit the mini-game and go to the administrator. We buy a trophy for 500 balls and enjoy life.
