How to unlock the Pop the Cork achievement in Yakuza: Like a Dragon - Definitive Guide

This achievement is for beating all races, all rivals, and then beating the Dragon Fighter in a final race.

Edit 1: Time trails and not required. If for some reason it did not unlock after completing all requirements, try to restart the game and the console. Or load an older save and do the last race again (thanks brooza664 for confirming). Sometimes Quick resume does not allow unlocking some achievements or delay them.

Dragon Fighter has a super cart, it seems sometimes impossible to win if he ever passed you.

The main strategy I used after sooo many tries is the following:

I used the Phantom cart, as it allows 4 of the speed boosts. Make sure to fully upgrade it.
Click Y cn_Y to have first person driving view, it will show you further distance.
If you are going too fast on a corner, sometimes using A cn_A to jump and turn can help.
Aim to get speed boosts and the green arrow thing, also get the blue laser power up.
Dont get any other power ups, they do not help. But if you got one by mistake, use it fast so you have space for the speed ones.
Cut throw electrocuted areas, getting any rings will fix your cart.
Leave some boosts to the final round before the finish line. The Dragon Fighter somehow always has boost even without picking up any.

This is my first guide ever, let me know if it helped. I had to do alot of search and tests with each cart to win that.

I've won all the GPs and rival races (including Fighter), but it still hasn't popped. Do I need to do all the time trials?
I can confirm that time trials are not required. I reloaded an older save and it popped when I won the race again

I'm up to the dragon cup and I can't win the first race with the phantom cart.

Should I keep repeating and trying to win, change vehicle, or just carry on and try and win the other races?

Hey,

Did you upgrade your cart to the max?

For the final cup i have bought and tried each cart. Same tricks apply for cutting over electric corners and speed. But, in my opinion there is no specific one that is better for the final cup.

I hate racing games. I hate cars. It seriously sucks that we NEED to play this POS minigame for 1000/1000.
Last sega game i will play.

Just in case anyone else struggles with this. In order to unlock the dragon cup you need to finish the game, play in premium adventure mode and talk to the guy in the purple suit on the bench in front of the kart garage. I was expecting there to be a sub story minimap icon but this guy just appears as some random npc.

I was stuck on this one for over a year, but following these tips I beat the race after two attempts.

You deserve a brewsky for this guide toast

@Jubblerbug I'm on Chapter 15 and the guy in the purple suit was there in front of the garage.

while trying to unlock it, I discovered that if you press A rapidly when the countdown clock reach '0' you get speed boost. That was the edge I needed to win over the Dragon Fighter.

I beat the final rival second try, i used the purple kart as acceleration and handling are key.

It’s all about the lightning power up, get and use it laps 1-2 right away to set him back a bit but most important is lap 3, use it about 2 turns from the finish. That in conjunction with boosting when you run into something and you should get it. I had a harder time against Jin tbh.

I couldnt beat the dragon cup with any cart (all fully upgraded) until I saw a comment about changing the camera angle twice by pressing Y. It gives you a sort of overhead view and makes the turning 100% better. I finished each race over half a lap ahead of the second racers using the overhead camera. Couldn't recommend it enough to anyone struggling. I used Ignition Shadow kart btw.

I have one piece of advice for taking on dragon fighter.

Avoid all power ups except for the turbo speed and lightning bolt.

Be as ruthless as possible in this race even when dragon fighter is behind you make sure to use lightning bolt.

It will slow him down for a few seconds each time and then hit your turbos to try and create as much of a distance gap as possible.

Master tapping the break and holding the gas to get through the tight corners.

This whole thing comes down to track knowledge and personal driving style, but I can at least add what worked for me:

1. The rival race vs Jin unlocks in chapter 15, daytime after Adachi says "if you have anything to do now's the time", There is no quest marker if you spoke to him earlier, he's across from Dragon Kart on a bench
2. I used the far out camera (Y x2) and literally went worst to 1st in the middle 2 gp's
3. The speed boost at the start is to hit the gas right when it says GO
4. YMMV but I won everything except Jin in a fully upgraded Crimson Fire, vs Jin the Rapid Phantom
5. In the final race with the Fire, I only had to drift the hairpin after the 3x boosts and the turn right after. It took me 5 or more attempts, a good start so you never bump Fighter and a perfect race line is crucial. You can jump the corners of the sand hazards.
6. Vs Fighter, the elapsed time at the end of the race is meaningless. If he is 1st, the race ends immediately and your time is always his +10 seconds, which might be discouraging at first.

This mini-game will be introduced as part of the story. There are a total of four grand prix cups to complete by getting first place (each with three races) and a total of six rivals to beat. Some of the rivals won't be available to challenge until Chapter 15, so you can just leave this until then. Once you beat the first three grand prix cups, make sure you talk to people are the race track entrance to challenge them to unlock the fourth cup. After completing that, you can challenge the Dragon Fighter from the mini-game's menu.

I'd suggest using a fully upgraded Navy Fang kart until the Rapid Phantom kart unlocks, then use that for the remainder of the races. It doesn't have a super high top speed, but it handles really well and not crashing should be your main goal. During the races, prioritize getting the green speed boosts, and secondarily getting either of the blue power ups (one is invincibility, the other is a space laser). Use your speed boosts to go through sand or electric traps as short cuts, and use a jump slide with button-a.png around any tight corners. The driving takes some getting used to, but you'll routinely be getting first once you manage to avoid crashing.

You unlock Dragon Kart in chapter 4, but cannot earn this trophy until chapter 15. This is because the final 2 rival races only unlock in chapter 15. For this trophy, you must win all 4 cups and all 6 rival races. Dragon Kart is basically Yakuza's spin on Mario Kart. You race in go karts and fire weapons at your opponents to hinder them. You can purchase new karts which have different stats and even upgrade them to make their stats better. I did this with zero issues using a fully upgrade standard kart. If you have the money go ahead and upgrade it right away and just start winning races. After beating the first 3 cups you will then be tasked with beating everyone in rival races. There are 5 of these you must win before you unlock the 4th cup but after winning the 4th cup you will unlock the 6th and final rival race. Simply win that rival race to earn this trophy. As stated before, just spend money to fully upgrade the standard kart and you should have no issues.

The race against Jin and the Dragon Cup will become available only after completing Chapter 15. After completing the main story, you will need to talk to Jin sitting on the bench to start the race. He sits directly opposite the dragon go-kart (not marked on the map).

The final races will only open in the last chapter. For them, you need to return to Kamurocho so that you can then drive around it.
