How to unlock the Obsolete achievement in Yooka-Laylee - Definitive Guide

You reach this boss by finishing Kartos's mine cart challenge in the casino world. I.N.E.P.T. takes offense to Kartos's distribution of a Pagie, and attacks.

This boss, I.N.E.P.T. is a little bit tougher than the other previous World bosses. It takes place on a circular mine cart track, and has three phases, which can get a little tricky. You have to keep whaling on him with cannonballs, but you can only fire straight ahead, and the curved track prevents the cannonball from reaching him.

Phase 1
I.N.E.P.T. will plant bombs on the rail. Simple enough, at first - just jump over them. Once you've done so, I.N.E.P.T. will attack head-on. Fire a cannonball using cn_X and IMMEDIATELY JUMP. Merely hitting I.N.E.P.T. will not stop him from following through on his attack, but you can jump to avoid taking damage.

After doing this a couple of times, I.N.E.P.T. will start being clever with the bomb placement. When you see two bombs slightly closer together than normal, DO NOT TRY TO JUMP THEM TOGETHER. Blow the first up with a cannonball, then jump the second. Two or three more iterations, and we begin Phase 2.

Phase 2
I.N.E.P.T. will now abandon bombs and just repeatedly try to ram you. He'll alternate ramming from in front and from behind. Straightforward enough - just jump him. Unlike before, however, whenever he's in front of you, fire cannonballs as often as you can. The curvature of the track no longer prevents them from hitting.

After a couple of rounds, he'll again get clever. Note the number of times his eyes flash red before jumping. If it's three - jump. If it's two, he'll move in close and pause for half a second before attacking. Jump at that pause. Do that and hit him some more with cannonballs, and we're on to Phase 3.

Phase 3
I.N.E.P.T. will start firing missiles from behind you, preventing you from attacking with your cannonballs. The missiles always fly over your head and land ahead of you on the track, then turn around and attack you. Treat this the same way as the bombs: jump. The missiles will follow the rail and blow up I.N.E.P.T. When he starts grouping them together, jump and accelerate cn_LSr to jump over the lot of them. A few rounds, and I.N.E.P.T. will concede defeat.

Any tips to beat the Kartos track to unlock this boss? I can only seem to get 100 gems on the track and the required amount is 150.

I'm afraid I don't really have any good tips for you beyond what you've learned from previous tracks. Remember that, like Donkey Kong Country, you can still jump for about a quarter of a second after you start falling, so you can still collect some of those seemingly-inaccessible gems. Also, keep in mind that you CAN slow down or accelerate in midair, which is helpful for collecting those mid-air gems.

Overall, it just comes down to practice. Stay aware of your surroundings, time your jumps carefully, and use your slow down/acceleration wisely. I'm not certain, because I didn't think to try it myself, but you might have access to cannonballs. That might help.

In any case, it took me about five tries to get the track down to unlock the boss. Good luck.

Five tries... geez. I'm probably on attempt 100 on that track. My highest was 120 and never got close to that again.

The Kartos race was frustrating. There's a drop off in the track about halfway through. Pull your ebrake and drop below to the lower track to get a handful of gold diamonds. They give you a large chunk of score.

May be worth noting that this is one of the achievements that can glitch if you're offline when it should have been awarded. No way to get it after that, I haven't tested another playthrough though.

The Kartos race certainly tested my patience. I found it helped to mainly focus on the placement of the yellowish diamonds. I got lucky and beat the goal by two diamonds.

So far I think the kartos sections are the most difficult part of the game. I actually did this one in only a few tries, but now I'm stuck at the boss. I lose to much life in the first phase, I'm gonna try your tip and shoot the first bomb in the close pairs. Thanks for the guide.

Just a tip for this boss. I would highly recommend leaving this boss/kartos race, till you have most of the health extenders to save yourself a lot of frustration!

Thanks for the tip about shooting the bombs on the first phase. It is nearly impossible if you don't (and just try to jump them all). After you figure out which bombs to shoot, it really isn't that bad. The second phase is the easiest and the third phase is a little tricky, but if you have 5 hearts or more left once you get that far, you should be ok.

If you finish the track, but quit out once you reach the boss to take a break, you can talk to Kartos again and be right at the boss without having to redo his track again.

I'm really struggling with this fight. I'm following the guide on here and only got one health upgrade (7 butterflies). I've attempted this fight for maybe around 3 hours. I can get to the last phase of the fight, but alway die when he starts firing multiple rockets. So frustrating

Hello everyone,

I personally prefer video guides, so here is what I found and used to beat this very annoying boss.
The videomaker put both written and speaking method notes. Very useful.

Thanks DevilDo99 Gaming for your work.

In order to beat the World 4 boss, a giant I.N.E.P.T robot, you first have to complete Karto's Minecart Challenge by collecting 150 gems. Right after that, the boss will appear and will have to fight him with the aid of Kartos.

During phase 1 of the fight, he will drop red bombs onto the track that you have to shoot or jump over to avoid damage. After successfully doing so, he will lower his head onto the tracks and start blinking red. After blinking red 3 times, shoot him by pressing :square then he will drive into the canon ball and receive damage. Rinse and repeat until he changes his pattern.

During phase 2 of the fight, the camera perspective changes to the other side of the track. I.N.E.P.T will not lay bombs onto the track now, but instead repeatedly do his charge attack. Whenever he's in front of you, shoot him as often as you can with and jump over him whenever he closes in. When he's behind you, just pay attention to his charge so you can jump over him. After you've dealt enough damage, the third phase of the fight will begin.

During phase 3, I.N.E.P.T will remain behind you so you can't shoot him. He will shoot rockets at you that you have to jump over in order to not only avoid damage, but also inflict damage to him. Every rocket that you dodge will hit the robot behind you, eventually leading to his demise. If you're struggling with dodging the rockets, then remember that you can shoot them with (I.N.E.P.T will not receive damage in that case though) and try to jump as soon as the rocket leaves the screen instead of trying to react to them appearing on the track.

If you prefer a visual aid, then check out the following video:

The boss is found during the Trolley quest in the Casino. As soon as you collect 150 stones, a boss will appear immediately. Don’t worry if you lose, the boss fight will begin as soon as you talk to the NPC trolley, you won’t have to collect stones again. Video guide .
