This is easily gotten in the lava world, where there are a few places where the lava minions wielding the maces will spawn often, along with fire mages (throwing fireballs). When you arrive here, you will be half done and then just sacrifice less than an hour to get this achievement, along with good items, a bit of gold and a LOT of ability points that will be useful further on.

After entering the lava world, I jumped from 42% to 100% just getting to and then fighting the boss. I did go through a few enemy respawns while waiting for hp/mana regens.

Going out of your way for or grinding this achievement is entirely unnecessary. I just finished the game with over 1000 enemies killed and I actually started blowing by enemies instead of fighting them towards the end of the game because I just wanted it to be over. With how often the final boss glitches out and makes you restart from the beginning, you easily get hundreds of kills in the final fight alone.

You should have no issues getting this in the course of normal play, so long as you don't run past all the enemies. Most of the levels do not actually require you to kill anything to progress, so it's possible that you could not get this achievement. However, if you play the game like normal it will come well before the end. I got mine in the swamp area. If you need extra kills, all the blue portals on the world map spawn a large number of enemies.
