As you play through the game areas you play in will have breakable boxes and barrels. This achievement i got fairly quickly.

As of July 2021, this 100 barrels trophy is bugged. You can see my post in psnprofiles. Here it is again below for those having trouble.
So, it's July 2021 and playing on PS5, the 100 barrels trophy did not unlock although I smashed much more than that amount. I got the 50 barrels trophy no problem. After I finished the game, the trophy still did not unlock. I got every other trophy with no issues.
Here's what I tried based on suggestions above.
- Without deleting the save file, I started a new game in slot 3, and played up to the point where the bird snatched Alana's purse and a little beyond. 100 barrels still did not unlock although I had exceeded the amount.
- Then I deleted the save file, started a new game in slot 1, and played up to the first golem fight when the rats worshipped you as the evolutor. I was keeping a rough tally and figured I was around 80 barrels smashed up to then. In the fight with the golem, there're around 12 barrels in that room. Both golem and I smashed some, then I purposely died and resumed from last save. Upon the golem fight again, it destroyed some more barrels with its laser and the 100 barrels trophy popped. This leads me to believe that you can farm the barrels in this fight, that is, golem or you destroy the barrels, then purposely die and resume. The barrels will respawn.
Also, for the 2nd run above, I did it without quitting to main menu or closing the game. Not sure if that made any difference.
