Progression in Ziggurat II is roguelite style, so you start from Experience Level 1 every time you start a new run, in any mode, including campaign.
You get experience from killing stuff, but can get more by picking up the yellow diamond shards which creatures drop after death.
Simply survive long enough to level up once, press
to pick a perk, and the achievement will unlock.
