Very simple achievement, have the same setup if you want this easily:
Easy
1 player (for enemy quantity)
Host online
You can do this solo or with friends whichever you prefer, I personally done this with a friend with the other 2 slots open for randoms to join throughout, basically survive until wave 12 once you complete wave 12 a section of the map becomes clear for “escape” everyone who is alive at this point must get in the circle for you to escape, upon the match ending the achievement will pop!

Can you say join a game at round 5 and still leave at 12 or would you have to leave at 17?

it has to be 17 then, if you join in wave5.
