Ok, so this is pretty simple if you have friends that have this game. First, you need to donate animals to each other.
So while in the edit exhibit menu chose animals then chose view animal find the one you want then select it. From the edit, animal menu, go to trade, and then select donate. From there you will select the friend to send it to.
Next, you will need to get the animal donated to you. After getting back to the animals screen in the exhibit go to donated animals from there you will select the animal and then you can breed. Hopefully, you've already done that before but if not make sure you have a breeding center and a staff member assigned to that exhibit.

One thing I noticed is that lvl 15 animals if donated will hardly ever breed even with a breeder and everything in the green. Also should note, Mini exhibits animals don't breed.

yeah the game tells you level 15 animals rarely breed so you hve to do it with younger ones

For what it's worth, I got this on a bred animal that was earned on the same gamertag - won through a challenge in another zoo that awarded a "surprise animal" into my reserve. Doesn't appear this needs to be online at all or even from a different gamertag. (I did have a gifted animal from my alt gamertag but hadn't adopted it yet. Still haven't!)
