How to unlock the From los Andes to el Zoo achievement in Zoo Tycoon: Ultimate Animal Collection - Definitive Guide
I highly recommend using the spreadsheets posted in the walkthrough and some of the other breeding achievement guides to keep track of this. Much like the main breeding achievement, this once can be grindy, but you'll breed a lot of animals through the course of the game so if you're tracking them from the beginning this may end up simpler than you think.
The South American-specific animals that can be bred are:
- Alpacas (2 species)
- Cougars (3 species)
- Jaguar (7 species)
- Llamas (2 species)
All of the species must have bred to get this achievement.
This achievement is cumulative, so every South America-specific animal you breed through challenges or any other zoo count toward this.
In addition to the spreadsheet above, the Zoopedia tracks this for you. Within each species description it says whether you have adopted, bred and / or released that species.
Breeding is RNG, but you can improve the odds of an animal becoming pregnant with a few simple steps.
- Ensure all the breeding research is done.
- Hire three-star zookeepers and breeding specialists to each exhibit you're looking to breed animals in-
- Keep the animals happy. Keep the animals well-fed, entertained, clean and make sure their enclosures are the right type and size for them.
- Also, don't forget the basics. Animals won't breed in full enclosures so make sure there is space in the enclosure for at least one more animal. Babies don't breed so buy adults. And don't forget to include both males and females in your enclosures!
The easiest way to grind this out is to create a sandbox and use large exhibits with at least two males and two females of every species you are trying to breed. Once a species is 'done' you can swap it out for a similar species if you want or wait for at least one of them to reach level 15 so you can release them and add to that tally at the same time. If you are using breeding centers you'll likely make good progress on the colour variants at the same time, if you're going for that achievement too. It seems to take about 15 - 30 minutes for animals to start getting pregnant, so if you're waiting much longer than that I would save and reload in case of a glitch. The big cats seem to take longer to breed, but they will do it if you give them the right environment. For the sake of time (and sanity), I'd recommend progressing other achievements alongside this one.
