How to unlock the Malignant achievement in A Plague Tale: Requiem - Definitive Guide

TL;DR : Try to get the Malignant achievement out of the way by killing a moderate amount (between ⅓ and ⅔) of enemies per area, then go all or nothing, either killing the least amount of enemies (under ⅓ of the enemies killed) per section for the Sneaky achievement or exterminating all of them for the Fighter achievement (over ⅔ ; but killing all will guarantee you don't risk yourself to miscalculation).

Skills System Explained
Skills aren't upgraded in real time, they receive progress at the end of a section, usually depicted by a door you lock behind you or a crack in a wall with an object in front that blocks it and falls back on it once you go through.

Which Skill receives "XP" is determined purely by the numbers of enemies killed and the math is pretty simple :
  • Lethality = Enemies killed / Enemies in the section
Then the "XP" is distributed as followed :
  • Prudence : Lethality ⩽ ⅓
  • Aggressive : Lethality > ⅔
  • Opportunism : ⅓ < Lethality ⩽ ⅔
How to do the achievement.
From there, it's pretty straight-forward.
You need a relatively good awareness of your surroundings so you can have an idea of approximately how many enemies you're dealing with.
Then I'd recommend getting Malignant (Opportunism skills) out of the way, so that if you're unsure of the numbers of enemies you have to kill, the worst case scenario is that you'll get "XP" for one of the 2 other skill bars.
Once you're done with this first achievement, simply go all or nothing : try to sneak through an area while killing the least amount of enemies. But if you have to kill to defend yourself and are unsure if you killed too many already, then go on a killing spree and clean the area of enemies.

Unfortunately, you will need more than one playthrough to unlock all 3 achievements (I got Opportunism done somewhere around Chapter IV on NG+ and the 2 others about midway through NG+, around Chapter VIII).

Additional Informations
All this has been tested on Chapter VII, part 5 : The Fishing Village. 9 enemies spawn in this section. I ran the section 10 times total, getting one more kill each time and here are the results :
  • 0/9 killed = 0% : Prudence
  • 1/9 killed = 11% : Prudence
  • 2/9 killed = 22% : Prudence
  • 3/9 killed = 33% : Prudence
  • 4/9 killed = 44% : Opportunism
  • 5/9 killed = 56% : Opportunism
  • 6/9 killed = 67% : Opportunism
  • 7/9 killed = 78% : Aggressive
  • 8/9 killed = 89% : Aggressive
  • 9/9 killed = 100% : Aggressive

No, replaying a section will reset your progress to where it was when you started that section.
But I assume you could do a playthrough 100% Prudence, then Restart Chapter from the first section with enemies and do 100% Oportunism. For Aggressive, it's a bit more complex, since you can get Kill most of the enemies early on in the game. Some will be having helmets and you don't have anything to deal with it yet.

Although the guides helped me, I am going to talk from my personal experience, and it is not about percentages of deaths that are between 0% 33% 66% 100%, false.

It is like this:

1. Pacific: Do not kill.
2. Opportunist: Kill everyone without a helmet.
3. Aggressive: Kill them all, or almost all, make a carnage.

And that's it.

HOW TO QUICKLY UNLOCK THE OTHER 2 SKILL BASED TROPHIES AFTER BEATING THE GAME.
After almost two months break from paying the game, I finally cleaned up my last two TROPHIES in Requiem (Malignant and Fighter). Took me around 4hrs total.
Here are some tips I want to share:
Focus on one play style during your first play through. RULES for play styles: Stealthy (almost no kills or 1 per encounter), Opportunist (kill "half" of enemies - round UP if uneven number, example: if 7 then kill 4) or Aggressive (kill them all, any way you like). Each play style is rewarded with 4 skills you can unlock. Unlocking 4th skill in the play style gets you the TROPHY.
The moment you unlock first play style linked TROPHY - change your strategy to other 2. I started with sneaking around - learning patterns and etc. and unlocked my first TROPHY (Sneaky) in Ch9. I don't think each of my encounters was 100% stealthy by Ch9 as I played it for the story. At that point I didn't think about or understand what really counts towards these 3 TROPHIES but by the end of the game I had 5 more skills to unlock (out of 12 total).
OPTIONAL: I used first play through save file to replay chapters and clean up the collectibles and misc TROPHIES and was literally left with 2 skill based TROPHIES since January. If you have missed a lot of collectibles during the first half of the game - do not replay any chapters yet, just focus on NG+ as it requires playing at least first 7 chapters to get the other 2 Skill Based TROPHIES - just make sure you use the guide to find collectibles as some are off the beaten path.
RECOMMENDED: Fully upgrade your crossbow before finishing first play through. this will make the Fighter TROPHY a breeze.
Start NG+ Your skills and upgrades carry over. Use the following list to know how many enemies to expect in chapters/encounters and follow the RULE above to focus on the play style you are missing (credit to u/aer0niac on reddit for the breakdown in each encounter). https://www.reddit.com/r/APlagueTale/comments/ybh7xs/detaile...

2-4 (Confrontation in the stands) 5
            2-7 (Gladiators) 7
3-5 (At the edge of the city) 7
            3-6 (At the herbalist) 7
4-6 (The mass grave of the marshes) 13
            6-3 (Connection) 3+4 (in 2 "rooms")
            6-4 (The ochres) 8
            6-6 (Hunting lesson) 11
            7-3 (More Rats) 3
7-4 (The combat according to Arnaud) 18 (+2 are scripted on the beginning)
            10-3 (Slavers) 10
            10-5 (Approaching the fort) 12
            10-6 (In the courtyard) 9+2
            13-3 (Fresh air) 8
            13-4 (Ruined village) 9

I unlocked my 2nd skill based TROPHY (Malignant) after CH7-4.
To get the last Skill Based TROPHY, quit to the main menu and in the NG+ save slot load up early enough chapter to get you enough progress for unlocking your last skills. For me I loaded up Ch6-3 and played 30+ minutes until Ch6-6 killing every enemy on map to get last TROPHY (Fighter). TIP: You can just use the fully upgraded crossbow with 2+ bows to kill everyone including armoured guys and recover bolts to have "unlimited" ammo for each encounter. I used sling and stones on guys without helmets. Note: bolts used to destroy lanterns cannot be recovered.

Hope this helps whoever likes a quicker clean up.

              Text guide (en).
I am attaching a translation of the main points:
              Comments to mechanics:
              • The skill system takes into account only killed opponents.
              • The method of murder does not matter.
              • You can be noticed and still get experience for "Silent"/"Villain", and you can stealth kill and still get experience for "Fighter".

List of battles and number of kills for the “Villain” boost:
It is allowed to kill +-1 portfolk if you remain in the theoretical 34%-66% of the total number of opponents.

Chapter Title - Number of Kills/Total Number of Enemies - Commentary
Chapter 2.4 (Skirmish in the stands) - 2/5
              Chapter 2.7 (Gladiators) - 3/7
              Chapter 3.5 (Outskirts) - 4/7
              Chapter 3.6 (Herbalist's House) - 3/7
Chapter 4.6 (Burnt Offering in the Swamps) - 6/13
              Chapter 6.3 (Communication) - 4/7
              Chapter 6.4 (Ochre) - 4/8
Chapter 6.6 (Hunting Lesson) - 5/11 - The last 2 portages will appear as you approach the exit
Chapter 7.4 (Arno's Lessons) - 11/18 - Two enemies killed by Arno according to the script will not appear when the section is restarted. If the section is completed the first time, then there are only 20 opponents.
              Chapter 10.3 (Slavers) - 6/10
Chapter 10.5 (On the approaches to the fort) - 6/12
Chapter 10.6 (Courtyard) - 5/9 - The last 2 porticoes will appear when the gate is opened

Ignore enemy killing methods. Dear developers from Asobo didn’t bother to make smooth mechanics. And it is as follows:
0-30% of kills from the total number of enemies in the location = Quiet
30-70% of kills from the total number of enemies in the location = Villain
70%-100% of the total number of enemies in the location = Fighter
Count enemies first through “Photo Mode”.

To make it easier to understand
              1-2 kills - Quiet
              3-4 kills - Villain
              5-6 kills - Fighter

The information is not 100%, but only your kills count, at least when I paid attention to this, I killed 2 enemies myself and sent two to an ally, the progress was counted in Quiet.

If you didn’t manage to earn achievements during your first playthrough, all progress is transferred to New Game +. For me, all 3 achievements took the first playthrough, and the completion of seven chapters in the New Game plus

The number of kills it took me to get the trophy. Until chapter 9 I downloaded “Sneaky/Quiet”, so the list starts from the last chapters and continues in NG+. He killed with a sling and a crossbow, without the help of allies, and did not catch the eye of the survivors.

              Chapter 10
              3. Slavers - 6
              4. On the approaches to the fort - 6
              5. Courtyard - 5

              Chapter 13
              3. Air - 5
              4. Ruined village - 5

              Chapter 2
              7. Gladiators (In front of the tower) - 3

              Chapter 3
              5. Outskirts (to the herbalist’s house) - 6
              6. Herbalist's house - 3

              Chapter 4
              5. Helpers willy-nilly - 1
              6. Burnt offering in the swamps - 9 (Joseph killed the first 4 from the boat, 5 he killed himself)

One hundred percent method, personally tested - kill exactly half of the enemies in each location, you can’t go wrong. If there are an odd number of enemies, kill the smaller number. Out of nine, for example, kill four and run to the exit.

The trophy is problematic because the experience for it is given in a very strange way.

You can kill by any means - through trial and error, using the example of Chapter X (slave traders), I found out that you can even use a sling. As a result, he finished off the trophy without involving the environment at all; he killed one enemy with a knife, because... got burned. And before that, I tried to clear the entire location by setting the grass on fire, exploding torches - they also gave experience, but half as much, although there was not a single living soul left in the location.

The most interesting thing is that the trophy fell noticeably after the last battle, in a peaceful episode. When Sofia took out the prism for the first time, a little later there is a moment with a burning ditch that needs to be extinguished with a pot of saltpeter. So, the trophy fell out when I crossed this ditch. That is, for some interactions with the environment, even outside of combat, experience drips, but, apparently, just a little bit.

The most difficult trophy, because of which I had to replay almost the entire game, and this is + 7 hours of speedrunning. Following the tips above you need to kill 50% +-1 enemies in each location. That is, roughly out of 6 enemies there are 2-4. The logic is that 2/6=33%, 4/6=66% which fits into the range of 30-70. BUT, from the quarry to Sofia’s boat, my slider didn’t move a millimeter. This means that the method of murder still influences or does not count all locations.
My advice to you is to start downloading this trophy from the very beginning. In the game there are exclusively stealth places and those that are designed for aggression, they should be pumped up by themselves, but this one will be the least pumped up for everyone.
