How to unlock the He Won't Be Back achievement in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide

Choose to stay in Hungary and build your base near the Wonder. You are going to need only Kipchaks, Heavy Cavalry Archers and Trebuchets to acomplish this in time.

Focus on stone, gold and woods for the 30 minutes while helping your ally reclaiming villages from orange.

In the final assault, somewhere between 35 minutes, the bulgarians will mobilize his force and help you with infantry and cavalry against the Austrians (that's why you only need 3 type of units too).

Well, it's 45 minutes in game time, to be clear

This is relatively comfortable, and the forced rush makes the mission quite a lot easier than trying to boom

@maxage

This gets brought up in a lot of comments for timed missions. By default, the game is set at 1.7x time speed. You can change speed with the + or - button on your numpad. Press F11 to view the clock and current speed.

I won't go into full detail for this. Just a small tip. Right at the start of the mission, don't cross the river, but stay on this side of the water. Duke Frederick (Austrians/red) will be located on this side of the water, in the bottom left corner of the map. If you cross the water, it'll be impossible to defeat him.

After doing so, set up a base, build up forces. Try to focus on red and not on orange.

I don't know why I didn't think this was obvious, but the wording in the achievement is there....

!!!!!You only need to beat red before 45 minutes is up, you don't have to finish the map!!!!!

I kept trying to finish the map in 45 minutes or less and kept killing orange first because the blue ally was going after red.

You should be able to kill red with about 30 Kipchaks and 6 trebuchets starting around 15 minutes into the game. Learning where the ox carts in the beginning and going for all 4-5 of them at the same time is important because then you can get 2 town centers up quickly and get your economy running at top speed by about 10 minutes into the match. I finished off both red bases about 22 minutes into the game, and the achievement popped in the middle of the match.

NOTE that there is a weird glitch with this map too. I had a stopwatch running since I was trying to beat the whole map in 45 minutes. I finished in 27 minutes and the timeline time after the game in the Game Summary said I had finished in 44 minutes. Somehow it was adding 17 minutes.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition (PC) - Achievement - He Won't Be Back

Assist King Bela and defeat the Austrian Duke Frederick in the fifth Kotyan mission "A New Home" before 45 minutes have elapsed.

The first think to note about this mission is that you get a choice to begin with. Travel back to Bulgaria or head south to help King Bela. For the purposes of the achievement, you must head south to help King Bela. You'll note that there is a secondary objective to find a destroyed Castle. As you exit King Bela's base to the South, take an immediate right and you'll come across it as well as a few villagers. Also note that you only need to defeat Austrian Duke Frederick before 45 minutes have elapsed - No one else.
Start building up your economy quickly - With your main aim to get a sizable cavalry force and Trebuchets. There is another objective to capture bases for King Bela. This can be done by damaging the tower in the middle of each base. Be careful, as he can also lose these bases if the tower gets too damaged again by the enemy. As of the date of this recording (27/09/2020), there is currently a bug in the game which is reflected in this video - Line of sight of the ally doesn't work correctly, although the Age of Empires team have confirmed they are working on a fix, hopefully in their next quarterly update. This makes things a little trickier at present as King Bela will attack the enemies and it's helpful if you go with him, but I was unable to see when / where he was attacking.
The more bases you capture for King Bela, the stronger he will be. He will begin to push Austrian Duke Frederick before the 45 minute mark, so it's important to try and keep an eye out for this and assist him to make sure you complete it in the time allowed.

You should add the timer to your video ;).
The game was updated so tis mission is a little bit harder. I did it the 3rd time with a time of 44:50 :D.

I recomand to rush the orange with your initial forces while healing the wounded with the blue castle.
Keep the archer on the hills to embush the orange thanks to your hero who will trap them. You should be able to take the 4 first villages without having to build any buildings.

Once done, focus on the red with 2 castles and heavy cav. Then finish the orange.

This can be a bit of a rush, but isn't too bad. The first thing to note is at the start you will want to choose to follow the blues rather than board the transport ship as otherwise the mission will change. Once you go that way, take your army with your cart to the wonder, bring any carts you find here for resources, you'll want to build boom an economy but it doesn't need to be massive you'll need stone and wood asap to build town centre's and castles.

You can use your initial army to help take control of a couple of the towns by destroying their towers (even better if you assist your ally in attacking so you save your men) this will provide you with more resources, build a couple of castles and some archery ranges then build say five trebuchets and a mix of your unique unit and cavalry archers, then go on the attack against the reds in the west, you can ignore the oranges entirely for the achievement and defeat them later, they don't pose much of a threat.
