Quick guide - No collectibles
Once you have made your way into the fort head into the blue door. Your goal is the locked lit up room on the right where the ringing telephone is. Head past this room/locked door to the left and go through the door in the right corner of the room. Head directly left and at the end is the elevator we need to get working. Facing the elevator turn right and run to the end of the hall way, head right again and in a room off to the right you will find a big crossbow. Take the winch from it and head back to the elevator and use it on the elevators middle section to fix it. Use the long piece of wood on the right of the elevator to bridge the gap on the floor for you to stand on to use the winch. Spin the handle and head up in the elevator. From here head left and behind the broken pillar on the floor is a cannon we need to fix and push. So find the first wheel next top the cannon leaning against a pillar, attach this. The second one is direct in the room behind the cannon so head in there and grab the wheel from the right side of cannon on the right. Attach the second and last wheel and get behind and PUSH! Drop down and answer the phone on the table. This is the main requirement to unlock the Communicator achievement.
Head out the other exit and up the stairs and around to the left. In the opposite corner of the room if the Quartermasters Stores. Go inside here and get the Saltpeter from the shelf, square metal can looking item. Head out of this storage room and go straight. I wasn't able to unlock this door so I removed the bricks in the hole on the right of the door and climbed on the barrel nearby and crouched through the hole. Head down the stairs and out the door.
The achievement Communicator should be unlocked here.

Story Related
This will unlock once you've completed the main section of the Fortress (in the building with the blue door) and have spoken with the doctor over the radio. You can get Narcissist, Historian, and Vandal in this chapter, so please see those to make sure you don't miss them.
For collectible purposes, there are 3 Hank Notes you need to pick up in this chapter for Crewmember , and ~15 regular notes you can read for Archivist . Please see the Collectible Guide for more detailed instructions on where to find these.
Your goal in this chapter is to get to the room with the radio.
The first objective will be to get upstairs. When you go through the first door in the first room, there will be a long hallway. At the end is a lift. You need a Winch and a wooden plank to operate it. Take the first right in the hallway and all the way to end. There will be a workbench on the right (a light will flicker once you get close). The Winch is on the workbench. The wooden plank is leaning on the wall just to the right of the lift. You need to situate the plank so it acts as a bench in the lift, then place the Winch on the central box. Rotate the lever to go up to the second floor.
Once you're up here, your main goal will be to get back down to the first floor, just on the opposite side of the building. When you reach the second floor, run straight ahead and you'll come to a room with a cracked floor. Turn around and in a room straight ahead on the right, there will be a cannon. You need to push the cannon onto the cracked floor, but will need to attach two wheels to it first. One wheel is on the floor just by the cannon and the second wheel is in the room with the 2 cannons and 3 bodies on the floor (it's on the side that doesn't have the bodies). When the wheels are attached, push the cannon onto the broken floor and it'll break.
Go into the room with the radio and interact with it. To exit the building, head up the stairs and through each room. There will be a door that's blocked with sandbags that you need to move out of the way, but you need to be quick, as you're not alone. When you run down the stairs, the exit door will be on the right.
