How to unlock the Blackheart achievement in Armello - Definitive Guide
Kill the king while corrupted (rot level 5 or higher). Edit (from the comments), it looks like you also need to have a higher rot level than the king when you fight him.
More detail:
First gain rot levels by purposely getting killed by banes or using spell/trickery cards that give you rot. When you fight another corrupted player or creature, you'll get an extra die for each rot level the lower level character has if you have a higher rot level than them. This means that if you can get a higher rot level than the king, you'll get an extra 7 or so dice when attacking him.
You must survive the fight with him. If you die killing him then it becomes a prestige victory for the prestige leader. So make sure to have a strong defense when you fight him.

Update: I finally earned it!
Did so as Brun. I built up 10 rot before attacking the king (he had healed once) who only had 9 rot. I completed all of the quests during the round so I didn't have to beat a peril to gain entry to the palace. The turn before entering, I gave myself 2 extra wit which meant more cards. Once I entered, I activated a shimmer shield which turned all of my extra cards into shields. I then burned all of those extra shield cards against the guards so they couldn't push me out of the palace. Against the king, I had 9 extra dice from his rot and beat him without burning any cards or quitting for a better fight outcome though doing so would have helped me beat him on that turn if necessary.
Note:
It's also worth noting that this game operates on a seed. That means that if you quit the game and then continue the events will play out the same. For example, if you draw two item cards at the beginning of your turn then quit and continue, you will draw the exact same two item cards again. Creatures will perform all of the same actions if you don't change yours. This means that you can reload a turn and try different options until you find an outcome that you like. This can be useful near the endgame when you're trying to get into the palace to kill the king and other creatures are doing things that prevent you from reaching that goal. You must quit before the end of the turn (before the day/night switch) or the events become permanent.
Things that DON'T change (Assuming you do nothing different):
Cards drawn from each type
Quest outcomes (Though the positions changed, I failed a 70% 5 times in a row)
Creature movement/actions
Prestige leader options/choices
Things that DO change:
Dice rolls in perils
Dice rolls in combat (unconfirmed)
You can also unlock the rot amulet in a custom game which makes this a bit easier as it gives you a +2 rot at the beginning of a game.
To get a Rot Victory you must kill the King in battle whilst having a higher amount of rot than him. This is very tricky, and the hardest of the Victory trophies to obtain.
The method to obtaining this involves finding Banes and allowing them to kill you, as each time they do you will earn 1 rot. Once you have reached 5 rot you should start killing Banes, as this will now start to earn you rot instead. You will need to keep killing Banes, preferably one each turn, in order to keep up with and eventually overtake the King’s level of rot.
We recommend playing as Zosha or Sana for this trophy. Zosha because she has the lowest body, and thus is easier to be killed by Banes, and Sana because of her hero power that converts spirit to fight against corrupted enemies.
Zosha win tactic:
- Start the game and equip no defense items, avoiding quests and stepping on Dungeons to spawn banes so that you can initiate battle and die to them. (If you can get a bane to spawn right next to your start zone then that’s preferred)
- Keep drawing exclusively Spell cards to try and get cards which give rot as a cost.
- Use cards such as scout, or be observant of the names/types of the perils which are being placed, and actively stand on tiles where the punishment for failure is extra rot, then try and throw the dice rolls by burning cards where the symbols don’t match.
- Once you are Corrupted, equip as many attack items as you can and start doing your quest line (pick wit and fight rewards so these are most useful). This is so you can now actively KILL the banes for rot, along with hopefully reaching the end of the quest line for a final rot reward.
- After being corrupted remember to still stand on perils/draw Spell cards which could give you extra rot to make sure your rot continues to increase outside of combat. However this should be mediated with items which hopefully give more attack
- Keep checking the rot status of the king (he will get 1 + rot each evening he is alive so watch the day night cycle) and plan your turn to attack when you know you will have more than him. Then good luck!
Sana win tactic:
- This is very similar to with Zosha for the initial steps till corruption, however due to her increased body dying to banes may be more tricky.
- Once you are Corrupted you should start to complete quest lines which reward you with spirit, and draw Spell cards which may boost this attribute, on your way to end stage rot quest rewards.
- This phase of the game is where Sana excels, even with very few item cards, if you have boosted her spirit she is guaranteed to do well against banes and gain rot very quickly, meaning you can normally attempt to attack the King faster than with Zosha.
Also if you have other players with you (boosting), then make sure to get them to help give you rot by also drawing lots of magic card perils that you can step on/ be affected by.
