How to unlock the Devil's in the Details achievement in Baldur's Gate 3 - Definitive Guide

This one can be pretty tough if you're playing anything besides Explorer.

There are 2 main things you need to do in order to do this:

1) Collect all 3 chests. 1 is found in the upper floor of the room you start in, 1 is found near Shadowheart and the last 1 is found in the room where you find the rune to free Shadowheart.

2) Collect all 4 of the Nautiloid Tanks. 1 is found right next to Shadowheart and the other 3 are found in the same room as Commander Zhalk.

Right after Lae'zel tells you to follow her lead, save the game. Then open your inventory and place the 3 chests on top of each other so that they block the corridor to the boss room. This should stop the Cambions from getting by on turn 10.

Then it's just a matter of wailing on Commander Zhalk while trying to keep the Mindflayer alive (as it is a temporary companion and much stronger than you) until his health is low enough.

When Commander Zhalk has around 40-50 HP left, it's time to set up. You're going to get everyone away from him and place all 4 tanks as close to him as possible. Then you simply use Shadowheart to throw a Firebolt to blow them all up, hopefully killing him in the process.

Edit: A couple things I forgot to mention that some people brought up -

@Cisco14: Shadowheart has access the Command spell (you have to go into her spellbook and set it as one of her useable spells) You can use this to cause Commander Zhalk to drop his weapon, the Everburn Blade. This will substantially decrease his overall DPS and increase yours, helping win the fight!

@GryJediEngr: In the second room of the tutorial, you'll meet a.. brain. If you decide to have 'Us' join you, it's a decent little companion that'll speed up the battle.

Maybe this could help as well... As soon as you get Shadowheart as a companion in the ship, go into her spellbook and prepare her Command spell (I removed Inflict Wounds), this way you can command Commander Zhalk to drop his sword, so you can pick it up for yourself as well, forcing him to only do unarmed strikes as you work his health down.

There's also an additional companion you can pick up. You can pick up an Intellect Devourer as a "pet" type companion which can help deal damage.

Worked perfectly thanks. There's actually 2 chests in the room you start in.

Cisco14's tip worked great! I forgot to prepare Command the first time and Zhalk dealed lots of damage and killed the Mindflayer quickly. Then he beat up my party.

I reloaded my save and used Command so he'd drop his weapon (which I picked up) and it made the fight easy. Absolutely destroyed him, the Mindflayer and Us with the Nautiloid Tank explosion. Lae'zel can use her ranged attack to blow them up. Or you can throw one of those explosive bulbs that are on the map. Also, you can shoot the red blobs on the roof and they'll fall and explode.

This can be completed on Explorer Mode and it helps to save "Us" the brain in the 2nd chamber which will fight along with you.

When you face the Commander on the Nautiloid he will be fighting a Mind Flayer and you'll have 15 turns to reach the controls (5 actually as his minions show up on turn 10 and will wreck you).

Before going into the chamber, prepare the Command spell for Shadowheart (whom you must rescue first). Kill the minions nearest you then Dash towards the commander with your characters. Once you are near the Commander, have Shadowheart cast Command and force the Commander to "Drop" his weapon. Have anyone in your party retrieve the weapon (it is a dominant weapon early on especially for Lazael).

At this point beat the Commander down until he dies (The Mind Flayer will deal good damage as well) and the trophy is yours.

Your chance to earn this is in the first 15 minutes of gameplay. I did it as a Monk on normal difficulty, but I recommend story difficulty. Monk is the best class for this, as it's the only class that can make two attacks a turn with modifiers applying. A two-weapon fighting Fighter might be better if you only want to get this achievement, but two-weapon fighting is pretty weak overall. A Cleric using sacred flame might have a better chance to do damage.

Make sure you save Shadowheart. When you get to the bridge, you'll see three imps, a hellhound, and Zhalk fighting a mind flayer. Have your Githyanki fighter companion deal with the dog, and ignore the imps. Shadowheart should stay ten feet back and use Sacred Flame; it'll have a better hit chance than her mace. Move to Zhalk.

On normal, Zhalk has 150 hit points, and you have 15 turns before the ship crashes (and you die). However, After 8 turns, two level 4 devils spawn behind you, will take two turns to reach you, and then quickly kill you. So you really need to do this in ten turns. That means counting on the mind flayer to get lucky on scoring hits for you. Give it a few tries.
