How to unlock the Dial Z For Murder achievement in Batman Arkham City - Definitive Guide

You will find random ringing phones around arkham. Get to the first phone, then its a race to a second phone. I must emphasize random. Sometimes you'll get 3 calls in 15 minutes, and sometimes it'll be 3 hours between calls. Random is random.

When you get to the 2nd, you must trace the call to zzazz. You do this by following the marker around with the left thumb stick and keep it over the marker. You won't finish this on the first try. It will take about 4-6 times before you trace the call.

Once you trace him, go to his hideout, open the vent inside with your batclaw, go into the lair, circle around it and take zzazz down.

I do reccommend waiting till you get the batline before finishing this side quest, it was the only was I got through the last section of his small lair. You get the item after beating penguin and chasing down a ninja.

I'm trying to do some sidequest stuff before advancing too far in the story, so I'm curious if it's possible to beat Zsasz without the batline or not? I'm about halfway done tracking him down, so it'd be great to know if it's actually impossible without that gadget.

Thanks!

I am not sure, I'm still in the middle of my first playthrough myself. The batline was just used to get past an annoying jump that I couldn't figure out how to get past. I used the batline, managed to jump up the pipe and then jump/glide over to zsazz and took him down like a normal thug.

I'm sure there is another method, but I have not found it yet.

Anyone have an idea of whether or not the calls stop happening for a period of time?

I've gotten 33% into the mission but after Zzazz's second traceable call I haven't been able to find any more ringing phones around in the areas I have access to.

Its possible the next ringing phone could be in an area I can't get to (meaning, the restricted zone, since I'm pretty sure there are some there) but I'd like to know if anyone else saw this happen to them.

No, there are no phones in the restricted zone. They are all in areas you can find in the beginning of the game. Sometimes you can go an hour without hearing a phone, and sometimes you'll get back to back calls. It truly is random when and where they occur. I went through a period of zero calls for about 2 hours and a period of 3 calls in 5 minutes.

Thanks. I think the game sections the calls out depending on where you are in the game, but I'd want to hear other people noticed it before we'd confirmed anything. Can you recall when (Early, middle or late into the story) that you got the 3 calls?

Yesterday I went back in and completed a little bit of the storyline and then Zzazz started calling like a little school girl again. I got -almost- to the end of tracking him by the time I was finished with both calls (had only 2 again) and then they stopped cold. I've got a few more story things to do before I can say "lets go exploring" again (I keep getting sidetracked by riddles and trophies) but I have a feeling Zzazz will start calling after that.

I'm worried I messed this up because I didn't realise I had to move the thumbstick until about the end of the third or fourth call. This was in the first quarter of the game, now I'm *SPOILERS* back at the steel mill - and no more calls.
Erm... where do I stand, is there a limit to how much you need to do per call, is there a limit to the calls and have I missed my chance?

Should add it's been a good 3 hours with no calls.

Ok, just unlocked - not sure if you're aware but if even if you have messed up your first few attempts eventually it will do an 'automatic (word I've now forgotten)' and come up with the location, went from a little over half way to the final location at the end of the last call.

no, no limit. If you don't finish sidequests before the end of the main story, never fear.

You can finish all side quests post game, including this one. All of the sidequests kinda stop once you get back to the steel mill the 2nd time.

The phones will ring again soon enough.

Possible solution to the missing phone calls, is to locate a phone thats has not been checked, and if its not ringing take out all the thugs that are near by, and that should trigger the phone to ring. I had already completed the main story on batman plus, and none of my phones were ringing, i got bored waiting for the phone to ring, so i took out all of the thugs that were near by and the phone started ring. I then repeated this method for the rest of the mission and it work everytime. hope this helps :)

This is just to add to WolfWood's solution already (send him a thumbs up please).

But if you were like me and decided to finish this as your last side mission, your probably thinking that you would end up waiting endlessly looking everywhere for a phone call to ring up. Well thankfully there's a helpful way to keep track on which phone might ring next.

Just click over to your map and go to your side missions menu, to click on Zzasz's mission. Once clicked, it should filter your map to have all the phone locations. How is this helpful? Well take note that each phone icon that you answered successfully is marked off. So basically just search for the phone icons that are left in the city for a possible ring, instead of checking randomly for one. Hope this helps!

Just to add to WolfWood's solution.

You don't need the batline to get across to ZZasz, I managed to circle round to him by jumping and using the freeze blast.

This video by ShockblastMedia shows how it can be done, without the batline.

The first of these side missions came for me after the Arkham City Sirens achievement and the last one came after The Wrecking Ball achievement.

While you are running around the city, Z will call a phone booth nearby. Use detective vision to locate the phone, then answer it. Z will give you a another phone booth to reach in a time limit. I recommend using the map to find the goal, then run to it. It'll be another phone booth, so it will on the ground.

I had plenty of time on many of these, and got all of them on my first time. It's not hard. After each time you do this, there's a minigame. After 5 or 6 times, you'll find his lair. In his lair, there's a lot of jumps that aren't too hard. For the final jump, you need to use the line launcher, then drop and quickly grapple away. The timing is tight on this.

Side Mission – Cold Call Killer.

Before you can even attempt this trophy, you will need to pick up the first phone that you hear ringing. This will introduce you to Victor Zsasz. Once picked up you will gain Ring Ring . Now that this side mission is activated, you will be free to pick up any other phones, these phones are random and ring at any given time. There will be a HUD in the game directing you to where a phone will be ringing.

There are two parts to this side mission. Once you hang up the first call, you will be given an allotted time to get to the next phone that's ringing. Once picked up, you will be attempting to trace the call do this until the bar in the top left reaches 100%.

Once at 100%, the hideout will be pinned on your map.

Once at Zsasz hideout. Follow the route round to the middle, then use a takedown on him ().

For a visual map of the locations of the phones, refer to the following picture:

The telephone encounters for this quest (Cold Call Killer) are entirely random, just pay attention to your Local Surveillance box. Once you hear a phone ringing, hunt it down. You'll then have to rush to a second phone and follow around his tracing signal with your thumbstick. Once you trace the call and reveal his location, enter his hideout to subdue the killer.
