How to unlock the Thanks, old friend achievement in Batman: Arkham Origins - Definitive Guide

Thanks old friend achievement is not missable. Ive completed story mode, side misssion and 100 collectables and I still got it at the end. All I did was:
1. go to batcave and
2. talked to alfred until he repeats
3. then I go into training console then exit (you dont have to do a challange, you just wana go to a loading screen)
4. repeat step 2 - 4
5. the last converstation I had with him was about the joker being in prision and something about visiting (other people had different last conversation). This took me an 1hr cause he keeps repeating himself.

Alfred appears at 3 location (near batplane, near training console, Computer) use detective vision to find him.

After reading comments I believe you need to complete all quest - story, side, wanted quest, collections

Just as a side note, this method totally works but takes a long time. However, I found I had better luck getting new conversations out of Alfred if I tried talking to him after trying a challenge map or loading the game form the main menu

What Spartan8722 said, I tried yesterday the HappyG01 method, it worked but Alfred repeated very often.

Today I tried Spartan's method and all I did was restarting the game from the main menu over and over and after 10 minutes I got the achievement.

Thanks

Looks like Spartan's method works great. I got the achievement after about 10 minutes while I tried Happy's method for half an hour.
Although I didn't have conversation about Joker at all. My last was about Bane when the achievement popped.

Alfred doesn't appear in the batcave anymore for me. Didn't really speak to him much during the story and now I'm cleaning up the side quests and Alfred is nowhere to found. So it is possible to miss.

Ibanez V7, I have no idea how you managed that. It HAS to be a glitch for you. I've finished the story, gotten all collectibles and completed all Most Wanted side quests and Alfred is still in the batcave for me, like he always was.

Try turning on detective vision in the batcave to find Alfred. I've noticed that he sometimes stands in odd places.

Just finished this using Spartan8722's method. Exit to main menu > continue story > talk to Alfred.

for me the last conversation was about a 'King Bat' from the Philippines. Took for ever to complete with lots of repeated conversations, just stick with it!

For me, he's not even repeating himself. He's just saying "You know everything I do, Sir." Well, clearly I don't or I'd have the achievement.

Last conversation for me didn't pop until I'd scanned all the Anarky tags. I'd done all the Most Wanted missions and got a conversation from Alfred about the escaped prisoners. Couldn't for the life of me get the achievement to drop until I scanned all the Anarky tags and then on returning to the Batcave I got another convo about the Joker including a reference to Arkham Asylum.

This achievement is alittle glitchy because I got this even after beating the story he jumped around with some of the conversations. The last one he talked about for me was with Bane. Only needed two more conversations after the story and bam achievement after story.

Just had it pop for me, I did restarting from main menu trick. My last conversation was about rounding up the Blackgate prisoners, so from reading the rest of the comments here it sounds random - just thought I'd point it out in case anyone thinks it's glitched because they got the Joker comment and it didn't pop.
For reference: I completed everything in the main game except the 'Worst Nightmare' challenges (argh).

To save a bit of time, just choose the 'restart' option from the pause screen. This is what I did and it worked for me, and saves a bit of time than from quitting out to the main menu each time. Still took ages though :/

I have all 100% excepting for Dark Knight challenges + fighting / predator challenges, but Alfred keeps repeating usual sentences, I got one Alfred's wisdom after like 50 tries, is it normal ?
Btw, is it cumulative with other saves ? (I'm not talking of a new game +, but through saves).

Yes, I can confirm that the conversation about the Joker is not the last one. I just had that Joker conversation and it didn't pop. Please fix that in the solution. Other than that, it is a good method.

I found that if I left the batcave and went to the city for about 10 minutes I almost always got a new conversation when I returned. I had done all the side quests so I just left batman on a rooftop while I went and did something else.

I took jonnyblazin5's advice on restarting instead of quitting to main menu and it also works, took me about 5-10 mins to get the last one which for me was the Man-bat conversation.

He keeps repeating forever, but didn't matter as I have turbo controller. He kept blappering forever (actually less than 30mins) but got last 2-3 needed conversations, without any effort on my part.

While travelling/using computer seems to give new unique faster at least in beginning, towards end he just repeated old stuff right at beginning.

Finally got it after a couple of hours. Incredibly tedious. I did what perfectdozen said above and it eventually worked, but I also second having something to distract yourself with while you do this, like listening to music or watching a video.

Just got this after 3, 15-20 minute sessions. Final statement was actually about a butler having to learn to be able to "sleep on his feet". I never heard the Man-Bat one though.

Last conversation I had was about when batman saved the hostages on the bridge. Played through the game a lot about half a year after it was realeased and spent the last few days doing the tedious stuff like this- unlocked after about 5 minutes. I do have all collectibles however don't have all the anarky tags and have done virtually no challenge maps.

There is a hidden timer that won't allow you to get more than 1 wisdom in a given period of time. You can repeat the above steps as much as you want, but you won't get the next wisdom until that timer has counted down. For me it is around 10-15min. So just work on this achievement while you play the game and come back periodically and talk to Alfred.

Its not about times talking nor exiting the batcave/combat training, its about WAITING. every after five or ten minutes alfred has a new conversation if you have done some event like bane, joker, enigma... without even reentering. I cant believe Im the only one who realise this

The Cyrus Pinkney plaques are what did it for me. Once I got to 91% of the intel, my very next conversation with Alfred was the last one I needed.

One thing worth mentioning - on several occasions, the wisdom came as the SECOND thing Alfred said. So we'd have one of those "How are things, Alfred?" ... "Status quo, sir. Status quo." conversations. Then I'd talk to him again and he'd drop some wisdom. So I would always check twice to see if he would say something new or if he went into "That Vicki Vale is quite the troublemaker..." etc. I would exit out and then back in. If there's no new wisdom given in the first two conversations, restart.

For those keeping track, Alfred will talk to you about The Joker, The Riddler (and reveal Edward Nygma's true last name and background), King Bat (Man-Bat) from the Phillippines, the escaped Blackgate prisoners, Bane, and Arkham Asylum. There are likely others that I got earlier, but those listed were for sure all the things Alfred talked to me about after I completed the game. Use that as a guide to know when you're close to the end. It took me about 90 minutes to complete.

I recommend doing this in conjunction with something else, like messing around on the internet. It's tedious.

It's not necessary to keep coming back to the Batcave every now and then after finishing missions. I haven't talked to Alfred a single time thoughout the whole game. Only after beating everything about the game, I started going for achievements and saw this one. I was afraid I would be required to start a new game or a new game plus for that, but it wasn't necessary.

What I did was simply talk to Alfred sometimes after several minutes. Sometimes I waited around 10 minutes and a new conversation line (with Alfred Knowledge experience) triggered. Sometimes it didn't, and in that case, I used fast travel to the city and back, or used the training console.

Sometimes it took me a lot of time for new dialogues to open, so I simply left the game running (not paused), did other things in real life for some minutes (drink some coffee, ate something), and when I came back, if there weren't any new dialogue triggered, I used again the console or fast travel and voilá, new dialogues with Alfred. It took me around 1 hour and a half or 2 hours to grab this achiev.

So, guys, be patient and starting everything over isn't required.

I got the Alfred Wisdom achievement to unlock well after finishing the game, but not using the method described. I tried using both the reload via the virtual trainer method and reload via menu method (both via "Restart" and "Exit" and reload). None of these worked.

What did work was leaving the Batcave and going back to the city. Then returning to the Batcave. Doing this, I got three conversations I didn't have yet after completing the game and getting the Joker conversation (Nashton, Firefly, Bane, in that order). Each one though, I had to leave the Batcave and go to the main map area, then return (aka three round trips).

So if you need this achievement, try this method, its what worked for me.

This achievement sucked. Finally got it in new game plus. My guide is as follows:
After completing the game for the first time, save your character in the batcave and start new game plus. The chance that he will speak wisdom and a new line is very likely every time you go to the batcave after killing guys, completing missions/side missions, etc. So my strategy was to go through new game plus and every once and a while after completing a mission I would go to the batcave, talk to Alfred, then exit the game after saved and go to my regular gameplay and talk to Alfred. Every game that is on the one save file is connected so if you talk to him on regular mode, new game +, and I Am The Night mode they all add up so you don't have to talk about something again in another mode just once. The achievement only counts if you talk to him about Wisdom (when you get xp), so don't worry about after you talk to him because it doesn't count.

After I completed all Dark Knight System challenges and all Most Wanted missions alongside the story on Normal (1st playthrough), I was waiting for Alfred to say something new.

I've tried leaving the batcave and coming back and also using the training console in the batcave and looking for Alfred, as suggested in the other solutions, however, I guess it stopped working at some point. I tried traveling to different districs and going back to the cave and still no luck.

I DID get some new conversation after I finished all the training console challenges (ranked, "campaign", custom and combat training) earning all medals. But eventually I wouldn't get any new conversation. One thing I was sure: I wasn't going to postpone it to my New Game Plus, since I wasn't sure if it would reset the conversations and because I won't complete side quests on the new game.

Frustrated (this is a very shitty achievement), eventually it came to my mind to try the Batsuit Chamber, also on the batcave. At this point of the game I noticed I had some choices of suit I wasn't aware before, so I tried a new one and went to talk to Alfred after that. Achievement unlocked. I guess that helped me with the one last chat I needed.

Just a note: I don't remember Alfred ever talking to me about the Joker or the Firefly, as others reported. It might have happened, maybe I wasn't paying attention, or maybe there isn't a precise list of mandatory dialogues you have to go through.

In any case, I hope this helps. If somebody else unlocks new conversations this way, you're welcome to leave a comment and a thumbs up. Thanks.

To get the trophy that's called "Thanks, old friend.", you will need to speak with Alfred and hear just about everything he has to offer.

To accomplish this goal, I recommend starting a new play through. This way, it will be fresh and new and the game will have an easier time keeping track of what Alfred has said to Batman/Bruce Wayne so far.

As you go through the storyline, you will be completing a lot of main missions and side quests. After you complete one of either, always fast-travel back to the Batcave and hear what he has to say. He will always say something different to Batman/Bruce Wayne. So it's really just a matter of going back and forth from each mission and speaking with him until the trophy unlocks.

He spawns at several points inside the Batcave, so if you have trouble locating him, use Detective mode to scan your surroundings until you see him. He can either be on top level, near the platform next to the Batwing, standing next to the computer that has Detective program on, or on the lower-level platform nearing the training grounds, as he is standing on the edge and looking up.

I also recommend talking to him constantly, for he does give you Alfred's wisdom in the form of experience points, so if you need more exp or have nearly enough for a level, now's the time to do it.

Talk to him after every mission and the trophy will eventually unlock.

Have fun and good luck!

Alfred is situated in the batcave. You can use on him to listen to some dialogue from him from time to time. Whenever you get the chance after leaving buildings you enter as part of the story or a boss battle, return to the batcave using fast travel, look for Alfred (he has 3 or 4 spawn points) and speak to him. For some you may get xp for 'Alfred's Wisdom', these are the ones that you need.

There has been some discussion about whether this is missable or not. Some have claimed going back and forth from the batcave, speaking to him everytime and eventually getting the trophy (albeit some repeat dialogue) despite not talking to him much in the story. Others such as myself didn't have such luck, and had to do this in NG+. It is best to talk to him whenever you can as stated above, and if you don't get the trophy, speak to him a few times more after the story is over.

When you are required to return to the Batcave, make sure to speak with Alfred before venturing back to Gotham City. You can usually find him near the Training terminal, Batwing, or central computer hub. Click to speak with him and a mini animation will begin as the two characters exchange dialogue. You will earn some XP for having gained some "wisdom" from Alfred each time he says something worth of note.

This "wisdom" is essential in obtaining the achievement. He will usually have a new "wisdom" conversation once you complete a Most Wanted entry, capture one of the eight assassins, or have completed a major mission in the main storyline.

If you have not unlocked this achievement by the end of the game, simply follow these steps and it should unlock after some time:

  1. Travel to the Batcave
  2. Talk with Alfred until he shares some wisdom
  3. Continue talking to him until he begins to repeat some lines of dialogue
  4. Go to the Training terminal and activate it; now exit after loading it up
  5. Speak with Alfred again and you should have a new "Wisdom" conversation
  6. Whether you get Wisdom or not, exhaust all dialogue until he repeats
  7. Repeat Steps 3-5 until the achievement unlocks

While many people have reported this achievement to be a little inconsistent, I have found that some of the key "Wisdom" conversations were about the following topics:

  • Killer Croc's mutation (after analyzing the data chip in the beginning of the game)
  • Electricutioner's arrogance (when returning to the Batcave for the Concussion Detonator)
  • Bane's obsession with Batman (after coming back to the Batcave post-game)
  • A King Bat in the Philippines (random conversation)
  • Firefly's attack on the innocents (after coming back to the Batcave post-game)
  • Nigma's "real" name (after completing Nigma's Most Wanted entry)
  • Joker's whereabouts post-game (after defeating the Joker)

There may or may not be a few more key conversations that count towards this achievement, so just follow the steps above and you will eventually unlock the achievement.
