How to unlock the Perfect Hero achievement in Battle Fantasia - Definitive Guide

Battle FantasiaPerfect HeroThe Perfect Hero achievement in Battle Fantasia worth 680 pointsCan you survive the Apocalypse Flame?

In order to survive the Apocalypse Flame you must defeat the End of Deathbringer with a PERFECT on Very Hard difficulty while also parrying all 22-hits of his Apocalypse Flame move during the last fight of Arcade Mode. Make sure you set the difficulty to Very Hard and if you want, re-configure the Gachi (parry) button to something more comfortable such as cn_B-button. This is not a terribly difficult achievement but it will take practice and a ton of continues so I'll break it down.

End of Deathbringer Explained
For starters, his CPU intelligence is actually quite poor. Even on VERY HARD difficulty his actions are still quite comparable to the likes of EASY difficulty. But other than that he can be random. For the most part he will do a few flaming slashes at times that you can see coming way ahead of time so all you have to do is back dash to avoid them. He rarely jumps and if he does he'll do random strikes that are easily avoidable. There are 2 moves to focus on from him: his Curser Destrier (which is the move where he does a Joust like charge at you) and his Apocalypse Flame super move. These are the two moves you must nearly master in parrying if you desire to survive the Apocalypse Flame! Sometimes he will parry you but this is pretty random and you should only be attacking him when he's recovering from an attack anything outside of that is too risky, back off! Just make sure that when the fight starts to back dash immediately as far as you can from him and wait for him to charge at you, this is the time to parry the move and get 3 easy specials. After that it's all about remaining unharmed and entering heat mode while you wail on him until he's dead. There's a video of it being done with multiple characters below:

Parrying the Cursed Destrier(Charge Attack)
It's imperative to familiarize yourself with the 3 Forms of this move. There is one that does 7-Hits, 8-Hits, and 9-Hits when you parry all of them. Let me break down the way this move is parried.

(Deathbringer charges back, then yells out: "Ike Zo") This is where he lunges at you. As soon as his sword touches you press cn_RB like so:

1.2.3.4.5.(pause)..6.7 Each gachi is like half a second apart then there will be a short pause then 2 more hits as he goes for an uppercut. The uppercut is always simply 2 extra parries and is easy to memorize in timing.

Note: Depending on who you use sometimes while EOD goes for the uppercut it can be 3 parries because of extra hit-boxes like if you were using Donvalve for example or Deathbringer.

Now the problem is that there are two other forms he does. Sometimes he will do:

- (7 Hitter)1.2.3.4.5...6.7. then at other times he will do

- (8 Hitter)1.2.3.4.5.6...7.8. and finally there's his

- (9 Hitter)1.2.3.4.5.6.7...8.9. and that's all 3 versions of it.

There doesn't seem to be a certain pattern it seems pretty random and I have been unable to decipher when he will be going for 7,8 or 9 hit Cursed Destrier. I have tried discerning the pitch of his voice when he yells out: "Ika Zo" but no luck that's pretty random as well. I even looked at his hoove placement as he is about to land where he pauses but this can't be foretold as by then you are already trying to gachi an extra hit when you are actually suppose to be pausing and it screws you up and you get hit. But anyways these are the 3 forms of his charge attack and you may want to learn the timing for these if you want to survive the Apocalypse flame.

If you happen to be using Deathbringer when going for this achievement there are only 2 forms of the charge there's a 8 and 9 hit version which gives you a 50% chance of parrying it when you guess. So when parrying it with Deathbringer the rhythm will be:

- (8 hitter) 1.2.3.4.5.6...7.8

- (9 hitter) 1.2.3.4.5.6.7...8.9

This is much easier than when using Urs. However, there is another tip posted by a 360a contributor that helps as well listed below. If you merely JUMP when he draws his sword back, you only have to keep the rhythm of the dash attack normally and usually by 3-4 hits, he passes under you, eliminating the variable 7-9 hit!

How to parry the Apocalypse Flame
1. Make sure your character is sitting still before you attempt to parry this
2. Once you have parried this make sure Deathbringer does not Power up to Stage 1 again! Try heating up and hitting him to prevent this when he's going to Stage 2.
3. As you parry it look at your characters parry animation every time they do it press gachi just as they repeat the animation for easy timing!
4. Try to stay focused when parrying this move have no distractions in the room.
5. Don't count the parries, well at least I didn't because if I did it screwed me up, so just parry until the move is over then hit your super or special move against him as he's recovering. Timing the parry can be found in the video below:

Now you may not always parry this move and it's okay but you should have less of a problem parrying it than predicting the Cursed Destrier attacks.

I also have a in-depth solution for this achievement but it would be much easier to just link people to my full guide for Perfect Hero which can be found below.

This solution is so old and it shows. Grammar and punctuation mistakes littered throughout. It originally was written in 2010. It can honestly be organized a bit better too. I guess that's the charm of going back and reading your own work from years ago. You get to see how much you've improved.

Constructive criticism to my past self.

A couple of notes to add about this achievement is that getting a Perfect with a time over does not count towards the achievement and you need to start parrying the Apocalypse Flame about 1 second after the text pops up on the screen. Also you need to time your parries with about a 3/10 second gap in between each.

Best Tip - Jumping makes the Parry much easier.

For those who still struggle with this, there was a new alternative method revealed a couple years ago that could make parrying the Apocalypse Flame much easier for relevant players:

This one is the big daddy here, and there's a good reason its worth 100gs.

To get the achievement:

You have to Gachi (counter/parry) all 22 hits of the Apocalypse Flame and then finish End of Deathbringer with a perfect victory (taking no damage at all) on VERY HARD difficulty.

Japanese players have even figured this out to a science, since after you parry the first hit of the AF, you have to parry at a speed that is the equivalent of the musical BPM (beats per minute) of 212. Just to prove this can be done, I'll post a video of it being done here. Watch in dismay as this guy completely wrecks End of Deathbringer from beginning to end. I wish luck to anyone who attempts this, but the method of doing it is very clear.

The video is here. Scroll all the way down to the very bottom of the page to the 2nd embedded video and click the little button near the bottom to start playing.
