How to unlock the Whale achievement in Blitz The League - Definitive Guide

You can get this achievement by playing your first game against the Arizona Outlaws in Division 3. Bet 50k, and you can't lose by no more than 7 points. Keep the game close and don't blow them out obviously, so going into Overtime is the key for this achievement. I use Lawless as my vet LB (Be him on every play). Move your vet to the left because most of the time when the A.I. is losing especially in the 4th quarter they'll go into "Shotgun" and will always roll to his right, but try to anticipate which way he's going. I only chose the "Cover" formations. The plays that I chose were "Far" "Cover 1" and "Cover 2". Use dirty hits on every play, and use your unleashed on loss yardage (do the same for dirty hits). Going for user picks will help to because you'll get an icon for the pick and for the turnover. When you score, do nothing but onside kicks, and kick it perfectly, if they line up to the right, kick it left and vice-versa. OL tend to fumble the ball if you dirty hit them with your Veteran LB. On offense just chose the play “Hail Mary” on every play while doing a QB evade (once or twice) with a clash catch on every play and make sure you do taunts. I ended up getting like 313k dollars.

Note: win the brawls and cause a lot of injuries. You’ll get one icon for the dirty hit and one for the injury.

It does not state that you have to lose. It says you have to stay within 7 points. If you win the game you earn $20,000. So winning and betting max amount is already at $70,000.

Just an FYI for anybody trying this... Always go for 2. You can use an unleash and score icons with the clock not running..

Special thanks to rwellsjr1985 for showing me the basics in order to be successful in the regular game.

Fair warning before you start this achievement: it will make you swear and rave. If you're like me, you might not be very good at evading with the QB, or holding the other team back in order to go into OT. This solution is merely a last-ditch effort, in case the other solutions end up frustrating you.

Instead of going into OT, the way I did it was as follows.. First, make sure you always receive the ball first. Getting the first score increases your chance of getting an Unleashed quickly. On offense, I only used 2 plays: Feast and Oh Mary. Oh Mary, with a clash catch, is almost guaranteed to be a touchdown. When the computer says to taunt, do so for as long as you can. If possible, juke and swerve on every play for an extra combo token. The key here is to run up the score at a gallop, and basically use an Unleash on every drive.

Now, in order to keep getting the ball, use the onside kick trick, and make sure you hit the carrier with a dirty hit. This is especially good if you have an Unleash stored from the previous drive. Even if you injure the other player without the Unleash cutscene, I believe it still counts under the Unleash totals. With any luck, you can recover the fumble, then taunt on the way down field.

The ugly part, of course, is defense. In the first game, the Outlaws are terrible, but can still get passes off. The only play you should run is Terror under Cover plays, and your veteran needs to be the safety. He can blitz and hit extremely quickly. Hold RT and sack with a dirty tackle, and you should cause some decent injuries. All those moves add to the combo count. Using an Unleash on defense can sometimes cause a fumble, but mostly just injuries.

Now, I'm sure you're thinking that there's not enough time to get enough Unleash moves. And you're right. The key to successfully racking up those moves comes from causing and recovering fumbles, especially with injuries. It is incredibly difficult, and requires luck. But if you can get at least 3 unleashed moves used before the end of the 1st, you have a very good shot at getting enough hits and the cash that goes with them.

Finally, you're going to need to win at least 3 brawls in the game, in order to squeeze out a few more Unleash combos. Yes, they are random, but I started winning after I made sure to slowly cycle between players using B, and making sure they got at least one hit before switching.

At the end of my 25th and finally successful game, I had exactly 250000 dollars. 73 combos, 12 unleashed moves, 5 injuries, and 3 successful brawls, plus winning the bets. As I said before, this is just a framework to use, in case you're having trouble with multiple OTs as suggested above. It is possible to get the achievement in regulation, but it requires good timing and a perfect game scenario. Just keep practicing, and it will eventually pop.

I roughly used this when I sat down to go for the achievement. Rookie was the QB Wescott but my vet was the linebacker Lawless. I suck at winning brawls. On the onside kickoffs I sometimes couldn't switch to Lawless in time so I used my kicker for dirty hits.

I used the Cover-Terror play every time on defense. I used Raymer to blitz the QB each time. If they got a pass off I let them score as fast as possible. I used Speed - Oh Mary every time on offense. Clash catch, taunts and stiff arms to build combos.

Ended with:
89 combos for $89k
18 dirty hits for $18k
12 Unleashed Moves for $60k
7 injuries for $21k
1 brawl win for $2k (I lost the many others).
Win bonus $20k
Wager win $50k

Combos = 1,000
Dirty Hits = 1,000
Unleash Moves = 5,000
Injuries = 3,000
Brawls =2,000
Wager = 50,000
Win Bonus = 20,000

It takes six (6) Combos to acquire one (1) Unleash Move.

Wager (50,000)+Unleash Moves (5,000x15=75,000)+Combos (1,000x6=6,000x15 Unleash Moves=90,000)+Win Bonus (20,000) = 235,000

So if you get and unleash a total of 15 times and then win the game, you should have at the very least 235,000. Hopefully you will also have a few thousand in Brawls, probably a few thousand in Injuries, and that should put you over.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So here's the actual guide~

Step one: As soon as you get the ball score a touchdown and kick an extra point for a total of seven points. Unless the other team scores, do not worry about scoring again. You want to keep the game close so you can go into multiple overtimes.

Step two: On defense run cover 1 on every single down. Move your right side line backer (should be your veteran Lawless) to the left side. On screen he'll be on the left and you'll line him up on the right side. What you're essentially doing with him is rushing the passer the whole game. So charge after the QB when the play starts and hopefully he throws the ball quickly (which means he will not throw far) or you sack him.

Step three: When you're on offense you want to focus on filling unleash. I found the best way to do this is by evading defensive linemen with your QB. If you're QB gets injured always select to the safe way to treat his injury unless he's out for the game. If he gets too injured he'll start fumbling the ball all over the place.

Now once you have your meter full, unleash on a lineman using evade, then wait for your combo meter to cool down in order to continue performing evade moves before you throw the ball down the field. If you find yourself on second down with short yardage then I suggest you run backwards and out of bounds in order to fill your combo meter again. When running out of bounds with your QB make sure you hold (B) otherwise you might just throw it down the field for a touchdown and premature win.

Once you have unleashed 15 times you should have enough to finish the game with a win and unlock the Whale achievement.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is what I finished with:

Combos - 158 (158,000)
Dirty Hits - 10 (10,000)
Unleash Moves - 19 (95,000)
Injuries - 4 (12,000)
Brawls - 2 (4,000)
Win Bonus - 20,000
Wager - 50,000
Total - $349,000.00

Good luck!

Great guide. I have a couple of questions. How in the sweet f@ck do you win brawls? I've been playing this game off & on since its release for 360 and 90% of the time I'm getting trounced during the brawls.

Also, I seem to lose Clash way too fast to get more than one or two evades with the QB. You say you got 19 Unleash moves and I have no idea how you managed it. The closest I have come to the suggested 15 is 7 and that was after OT & Sudden Death OT. Injuries don't seem to happen that often (one or two a game, if at all) even against teams with lowered stamina (escorts).

Short of going into triple or quadruple OT, there doesn't seem to be enough time in the game to get the Unleashes required and the OT method only works if your team is expected to lose or if you have to win by 6 or less. That's if the game itself doesn't decide to f@ck you and allow the offense to bypass every single one of your defenders and subsequently win. As of this writing, I've been working on this for almost a week and the closest I have come was 217,000.

If you have any helpful suggestions, I'm all ears.

Brawls are almost entirely luck based. If I remember correctly, there will sometimes be a large group of opposing players in the middle of the screen, and if you're lucky enough you will have time to run to the side or the top/bottom of the screen and tackle many of them in one go. After that it's a free-for-all.

I can't speak too much about clash. It's been 10 months and I honestly don't think anything I could say now would help you. If anything I might just confuse you. What I can say is that multiple overtimes is the key to getting this achievement. I don't remember how many ot's I had when I got the achievement, but there were many games I played that went into 7-9 overtimes, only for the opposing team to screw me.

If you're having problems with the game ending early because your secondary can't catch widerecievers, then put them on a juice that gives them strength and speed. I highly suggest you put your main passrusher on juice as well. If your passrush guy doesn't stop or disrupt the play then be sure to switch to your guy in the seconadary and wallop the widereciever before he has a chance on the ball.

I hope something I said there might help you.

The best chance in doing this is during your first game against Arizona. During you second play thru of the game. By then you would have the experience and timing of the game down. Now wager 50,000, get your unleash meter full as often as you can. The quickest way to get your unleash full is while on offensive select a passing play and wait for defenders to surround your quarterback. Then enter Clash mode and Juke as much as you can in the direction specified. You’ll get one combo worth $1,000 plus the icon towards your Unleashed. Be sure to pass the ball before your Clash runs out to increase the likelihood of a catch. Once you’ve caught the ball be sure to perform a taunt before scoring the touchdown. This should fill up your Unleash on one possession. During the ensuing kickoff move the kick placement meter all the way to the left and correctly enter only two of the button sequences. The kick will be received at about the 40 yard line by a fumbling prone lineman. So unleash on him and recover the fumble. If he doesn’t fumble this is okay just use the defense set up for Manvalanche and be sure to use dirty hits. Do not blow the computer out as you’ll want to keep the game close so you can go into Overtime and Double Overtime if needed. Remember you’ll get 70,000 just from your bet and winning the game so you need to make up the other $180,000. Be sure to use Dirty Hits every time you tackle they are worth $1,000 each and fill your Unleash.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/blitz-the-league/gui... gives an amazing guide towards this achievement. I give credit to the author just thought this would help others as it has helped me! It gives you a way for this achievement among others if you need them. It is still a challenge to get even with this guide but I have gotten close many times with what the guy has said to do so I am sure it works!
