How to unlock the No prohibition for Darkwater achievement in Call of Cthulhu - Definitive Guide

Regarding skill checks. The percentages I list worked for me. Higher percentages will give you a greater chance of passing skill checks the first time. A quiet two-note tone will play every time you pass a check. IMPORTANT If you fail a skill check immediately dashboard then quit the game. Reload the game and you’ll be restarted from the last checkpoint. If you’re not fast enough then the option will be gone forever and you’ll be locked out. Since inventory and items do not carry over you'll have to restart the game If you do have to reload be sure to pick up all collectibles that did not save.

Chapter 2

Deliver the liquor to the 2 (drunk) sailors near the 2 warehouse guards. You'll find them once you cross past the dead killer whale. Speaking to the harbormaster Fitzroy opens the way.

First speak to the drunk sailors, then to the bootleggers blocking the path. Return to the drunks to have the dialogue option to get rid of the two guards.

Walking away from the drunk sailors towards the statue of Saint Brendan (near the ocean) you will pass three identical small huts on the right. Pick the lock of the first hut you come to and pick up a bottle of liquor. The beginning skill levels (Investigation 40%) will pick the lock and (Spot Hidden 30%) will find the booze, this worked for me, others have reported it didn't for them. Return to the drunk sailors and give them the bottle, they will lure the guards away.

There is another option to buy a bottle of whiskey from the bartender. You'll need higher eloquence and doing this will not give you progress toward the hidden items achievement. So this is not recommended.

I could not pick the lock at Investigation 3/5. Is there a percentage chance to open locks or hard limits?

I think my Investigation was still at 2/5 but I'm not 100% sure. I know it was definitely not higher than 3/5 but what wasn't paying attention to the percentage at that time.

Alternatively you can also get the liquor from the bar. However, after the small scene in the bar when you enter you have to choose the "I am sorry" dialogue option (top right one) to get him to still give you alcohol....

Also: because the game is based on skill checks it might be possible to reload the checkpoint before you tried to unlock the door... Not sure might try it later

these achievements are bullshit, basically you can only get so much skill points at beginning so its a crap shoot to pick the lock and find the bottle. the odds are not good, going for my 4th attempt

I want to add something to this because FFS my game was being an a$$.

When you are going to talk to the guards, make sure you ask them to get into the hawkins warehouse. Than go back and talk to the sailors, and the dumb option will be there! I've been stuck for two hours! I hope this helps!!

I had the worst luck with this achievement; it was the most difficult one in the game for me lol. It took 6 tries to pick the lock and I was only successful once I had my investigation stat leveled up to 80%. But I got it eventually and at least it was quick to get to this point in the game.

After you give the sailors the whiskey and before you go into the warehouse you can go around and try for "The Delusional Investigator" by collecting the three objects and entering the grate and consequently the warehouse that way. You need to do this at some point anyways because there is a Mural down there to collect and work towards the "The Shadow Of Time" achievement.

Got it my first try when I set my investigation to 80%. The rest I put in hidden items.

I failed 9 straight times before finally getting it on the 10th try. Quite frustrating, I thought either my game was bugged or they patched it or something.

Was wondering about the bar. This is my second run through and dumped pts in Eloquence this time and charmed the bar keep but was afraid to ask for a drink as I am trying for the no drinking achievo. It occurred to me that I talked to the sailors before I tried to pick the door... maybe I need to try the door first. I think 3/5 is default Investigation is why I asked. First run I started at 4/5 Investigation and failed same way. Digging the game but some of the achievements seem kinda clunky.

IMPORTANT!
This requires a Skill Check that if you fail, the game saves automatically, therefore meaning you have to restart the game (Although it doesn't take long to get back to this point)

During Chapter 2 in Darkwater, after speaking with Fitzroy and opening up the map a bit, you can head down to the docks where you see 3 similar huts.
The first one you come across (On the very right if you look at it from dead on front) requires a pick lock attempt to get in.
Once successful, you hear a small tone, but be warned, this is random.. It took me 7 attempts to open it first time through.
Once you do open it, at the back will be the booze.. Go and speak to the 2 bodyguards just up from where you went down the steps.. (Make sure to NOT blame them for their activites)
Just say you need a way in, then leave.
Go speak to the 2 drunk sailors, they will have an option to give the booze.. Voila, Achievement unlocked.

Alternatively, if you want to see where and when and how to do this achievement, go to 11:20 in my first playthrough video.

Hope this helps!

During Chapter 2, there are multiple ways to get into the Warehouse. To unlock this achievement, speak to the guards, then the drunk sailors to ask for their help. Get the bottle of alcohol either from the locked shed on the pier or from the barkeep, then give it to the sailors to unlock the achievement.

Missable.

In Chapter 2, you’ll be tasked to enter a warehouse. One way to enter it is to distract the 2 guards on the left area, go talk to them and then talk to the 2 drunk sailors a bit further. They’ll be able to distract the guards if you give them a bottle of alcohol.

You can find one on the first locked shack on the pier or at the bar. Once you get it, go talk to the sailors again and give them the bottle and they’ll eventually distract the guards.

In Chapter 2, to get into the warehouse, you can ask for help from two drunken sailors.
To do this, first talk to them (they are literally standing opposite the entrance to the warehouse), then with the bootleggers who guard the entrance there, then back to the sailors and the workers will ask for some alcohol in return for help, it can be found by breaking the lock of the booth near the painted statue or simply buy from bartender Mitchell.

I apologized to the bartender and bought a drink from him. But when I was daring on the first pass, the bartender dynamized me.

If we apologize during the first conversation at a bar, the bartender will say that we are not worthy to buy alcohol from them.
And opening a lock in a shack with booze is purely random in part.

In Chapter 2, two drunken sailors are able to distract the warehouse guards for alcohol. The whiskey for them can be found in the house on the pier (by picking the lock with your skills, if you're lucky), but it's easier to buy it from the bartender. When you reach the bar, when you first talk to the bartender, select the “Sorry” response. After this, talk to Fitzroy, ask about warehouse 36, this will open access to the sailors. Talk to them, then to the bootlegger guards at the entrance to the warehouse, choosing the option "Does this passage lead to the warehouse?" Return to the sailors and ask them to distract the guards, to which they will say that they will do it for alcohol. Return to the bartender, “Buy alcohol” will appear in the dialogue. Buy a bottle of whiskey and bring it to the sailors.
