How to unlock the The Price of War achievement in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered - Definitive Guide
This is not the place to discuss the ethics of this solution. Whether you agree with it or not, i don't care. This is not the platform for a debate
Playing the last checkpoint on a level on Veteran will give you the achievement. So the play on recruit quit out and reload glitch/bug/strat/cheat still works on this game. Here's the gist of it:-
Get to the last checkpoint on a level, on any difficulty you feel comfortable with (See below for locations)
Hit start, and then Save and Quit
Hit Mission Select and choose your level you quit out of -> Select Veteran difficulty
When the level is loading (Green bar it bottom right corner) hit the guide button and then Quit the game
Re-boot the game, select resume game then complete the last section of the level on Veteran for achievement credit
S.S.D.D
This mission is a bit different and at the end of the mission you'll be prompted to choose a difficulty. Choose Veteran.
Team Player
After it says to report to General Shepherd. (The last objective).
Cliffhanger
Around 1250m left when you're on the snowmobile.
Takedown
After the final scene when Soap jumps onto Rojas.
Wolverines!
After you destroy the 2nd chopper with the rocket launcher.
The Hornet's Nest
Right before you jump to the chopper.
Exodus
After you walk past the burning plane and into the house and you get the final objective: "Extract the HVI from the 'panic room'".
The Only Easy Day... Was Yesterday
After you breach the final room with 3 hostages and explosives.
The Gulag
After the cutscene ends with rescuing prisoner 627
Of Their Own Accord
After the checkpoint given to you while you're gunning down from the chopper.
Contingency
After the checkpoint given to you while you're on the on the platform with Ghost, defending the area.
Second Sun
After you clear the final street. (Ranger will say "Street Clear!")
Whiskey Hotel
As soon as you make your way to the final level and you have the room to clear out. You will see stairs with a red light across from you.
Loose Ends
After making your way down the hill towards General Sheperd and the mortars begin to strike on you (Around 100m left). You will have to finish this part on Veteran when you load back in. This is the only hard part of this exploit.
Few people in the comments are saying there's another checkpoint after the one i posted. It's after the screen blacks out and when you wake up to being dragged by Ghost. I can't recall this so you can try it yourself
You want to kill every enemy possible before you get this checkpoint, the last thing you want is a bad checkpoint and being surrounded. So clear everything, get the checkpoint, load back and flashbang your way down the hill, hip firing here and there. I tried a slow and steady approach to clear the hill but the mortars are coming in too. I stayed on the right hand side, just past the farm and it gave me some elevation on the enemies which helped.
The Enemy of My Enemy
After starting to make your way down the runway towards the plane while you're in the car.
Just Like Old Times
After the final shootout in the pit just before making your way to the tunnel to end the mission.
Endgame
When #627 is about to shoot the chopper before you fall down the waterfall.
Above is a list i found online and i DO NOT take credit for it. Here is the original https://forum.psnprofiles.com/topic/87061-veteran-exploit-fi...

Hey everyone, just wanted to add some tips for people who are having a difficult time with this achievement, as it’s quite simple to progress once you have the right Weapons and tactics.
Weapons: the Noob toob (Aka the Grenade launcher attachment) is by far the best way to clear high populated areas of enemies if you weren't already aware. If you have the ability to take an acr TAKE IT, it’s a laser. And learn how to bounce your flash bangs off walls, you can throw a flash bang and turn away to reduce If not completely ignore the flash, even if it’s a right next to you. When shooting conserve your ammo and burst a few shots into people’s heads to drop em, one or two typically do it, this is why you want a nice ranged weapon to help take down enemies from afar.
Gameplay: TAKE it slow, this isn’t a race, try that and you’ll be sitting at a checkpoint for the next hour. Just sit back and take out enemies one by one, they will eventually stop spawning, even though they look like they don’t they eventually run out. The ai pathing in this game makes them go to default positions on Defensive cover, so that means they will keep running in the same pattern to a position Of cover, for example they may single file down a staircase without walking on either side of each other making them lined up like a group of dominoes. Sometimes you can just sit in an area and let them come to you, example, in the mission where you assault the safe house you can camp upstairs and look down the staircase outside, people will continue to run into cover behind the door and cars in the open, making them easy pickings, and in this case almost all of them do that, making this area extremely easy. Take a medium to long ranged weapon to chip off their numbers one by one, moving to cover to regen your hp everytime it goes into critical condition. Move up and rake in your checkpoints. Your ai teammates will also refuse to move up if you don’t hit a trigger point, so events such as enemy spawns will not occur untill your ai reaches a certain point, example the honey badger mission no one will move down the street untill you do. Don’t forget you can shoot through wood and thin sheet metal, so levels like the favela you can take an Ak and spray through certain walls to kill anything on the otherside.
All in all this isn’t that difficult of an achievement so I know you can do it, there’s plenty of guides on YouTube to help you progress in specific areas if your that stuck.

If youre new to MW2, play the game on recruit and learn the missions.
We have the luxury of a hit marker now..turn it on in the options.
In general:
CoD uses hitscan and % calculation if youre hit or not. To reduce that, lay on the ground in bad situations and stay behind cover.
Also make big use of LT/RT spam.
LT will refresh your auto aim on enemys and RT will fire short salvos if you keep clicking both buttons. Develop a feeling for that gunplay and youre good to go.
MW2 was the first CoD that wasnt borderline insane on veteran. Have patience and dont push too hard.
Good luck.

This is a guide for those who aren't interested in obtaining the achievement by playing through the mission on Recruit, then saving and quitting so that you only need to play the final checkpoint on Veteran for it to unlock. In short, it's for those who want to play the game on Veteran the entire way through.
For those of you where this is your first experience playing Veteran, here are some general tips and tricks before I go into each level:
* Take your time. With the exception of Contingency, there is no need to rush. The characters may be shouting at you to hurry up (like in Takedown or Whiskey Hotel) but unless there's a timer, feel free to be as slow and methodical as you want.
* In addition to that, unless it's the end of Loose Ends or Hornet's Nest, sweep through and make sure everyone is dead. Unlike previous CODs, MW2 does not have any segment where enemies respawn infinitely unless you cross some invisible checkpoint (looking at you, No Fighting in the War Room or Blowtorch and Corkscrew). So you can afford to be methodical and eliminate every enemy as once they're dead, there's no one to replace them.
* Treat this game as a cover shooter. That is, prioritize finding cover to protect you from enemy bullets. It only takes around 3-4 shots for you to be downed from an automatic rifle and 2 blasts from a shotgun or sniper. Meaning that most of your deaths will be before you have time to react.
* Enemies generally only have two states when in combat: they either look to hide behind cover and shoot at you or they try to rush you. The ones who rush you are deadlier because one melee from an enemy will kill you. So prioritize those rushing you as most enemies behind cover shoot like a Stormtrooper.
* For frag grenades, enemies are generally smart enough to run away. However, if you hold your grenade for three "ticks" (the indicator will go big and small 3 times) and then throw it, they have zero time to react and it's an easy way to rack up kills on enemies behind cover.
* In a similar vein, if you start with a weapon that has a grenade launcher, keep it. It's great for clearing out areas and there is much less risk of you blowing yourself up with a grenade launcher than a frag grenade.
* Others have commented this, but flashbangs are also your friend. If you suspect there's a room or an area with a lot of enemies, throw out a flashbang and then follow it up with a frag grenade. The enemies will be too stunned to run away. Alternatively, you can go guns blazing but you run the risk of not killing everyone in time before they start shooting back.
Now, as for the levels:
S.S.D.D
--------
This is the training level. You don't even have to get under 30 seconds to play on Veteran, but I would at least try to unlock that achievement (you can also try and go for the BX time but that will take a while). So there's nothing really special here.
Team Player
-------------
The very first segment honestly feels like an extension of S.S.D.D. You are told to shoot at enemies who are so far away that they struggle to hit you with any frequency so it's pretty risk-free. The only potential issue you can face is when you have to defend the drawbridge as the enemies are much closer. However, they generally aren't concerned about hitting you so it's still pretty easy.
You are going to go on a vehicle segment that is VERY forgiving. I'm not even sure if you can die during the entire scripted segment due to how fast you are moving. Anyways, your humvee is going to get shot down and you are told to rush into a building. Once in the building, prioritize shooting enemies on the rooftops on the left hand side, then move towards the stairs. You will have a couple enemies try and rush you from the stairs. Take them out, then focus on the enemies on the rooftops across from you.
Once that is done, you go up the stairs and it’s a few corridors of enemies. It’s fairly standard Call of Duty stuff. Look for cover, hide behind it and slowly take out all the enemies. Same applies for when you go through the school. The last part I found can be tricky as you will have 4-5 enemies spawn in front of you, as well as a couple enemies that love hiding behind a garage and shooting you from behind. My best course of action was to very quickly take out the 4-5 enemies running in front of you and then throw a flashbang through the garage, then take out the 2 enemies hiding. Once you finish up that segment, you are pretty much done with that level.
Cliffhanger
--------------
This level was much easier than I remember. Once you get past the scripted ice-climbing and you are tasked with planting the C4, I found that it was easier to loop around counter-clockwise (I was going for the achievement where you don’t alert or harm anyone so shooting was out of the question) than to rely on Soap to take out enemies and proceed clockwise. If you stay along with fence while going counter-clockwise (with your trusty heartbeat sensor to let you know if enemies are close), enemies pretty much never see you.
Honestly, the heartbeat sensor makes it really easy to navigate past enemies as you always know where they are, so I’m not sure there’s much more I can offer about this section.
Once you get the ACS module and Soap’s position is compromised, you’ll blow up the C4 and then take out all the enemies below. I found that the safest way to progress is to move from airplane to airplane and only focus on the ground level. For whatever reason, the enemies on the buildings struggled to hit anything and weren’t worth the ammo.
You’ll slide down the hill and a bunch of enemies will stand at the top and “shoot” at you. I put it in quotes because, once again, they couldn’t hit water if they fell out of a boat. Just shoot them and then it’s on to the snowmobile section.
The snowmobile section is very forgiving. So long as you bob left and right while holding down the trigger, you should have no problems finishing this level.
No Russian
----------------
This level is not required to unlock the achievement. If you are still interested in playing it, it’s honestly not very difficult. I didn’t die once on this level. The only section that might give you trouble is near the end where the riot shield enemies appear. I found that if you hugged the right-hand side and spammed some flash bangs and grenade launchers, it was pretty easy taking them out.
Not much more to say about this level.
Takedown
--------------
This might be the hardest level in MW2, as Royce and Meat are scripted to die early so it’s just you against the entire favela. Here, there is where it pays to be as slow and methodical as possible. When entering the favela, I always took the left-most path even though I hear that the right-most path has less enemies, so maybe I’m just dumb.
As I mentioned earlier, there are no infinite spawns of enemies. So if you take your time and use cover wisely, you’ll eventually kill them all and progress through the level.
Throughout this level, there will be closed-windows. Note that these will almost always have people hiding behind them who are scripted to shoot at you once you cross some imaginary checkpoint. So anytime you see a closed window, immediately aim your sights at it while moving forward, then once it springs open, lay fire on it until the person dies.
As for the layout of the level, they like to present you with two options: a way cuts through some of the favela and a more round-about way. Take the round-about way as the “shortcuts” means you are attacked from all ends.
Additionally, and I can’t stress this enough, once you take down the people on the streets, scan the rooftops thoroughly. I’ve had way too many instances of thinking the coast was clear, only to have someone pop up from the rooftops and gun me down.
You will eventually reach a point where Ghost and Soap are telling you to rush forward. Ignore them, Rojas isn’t going anywhere. Rushing through will only get you killed. Take you time and eventually you will finish this level.
Wolverines!
----------------
This level wasn’t particularly difficult. Enemies mostly engage you from such long distances that they can’t reliably hit you. Honestly, the harder parts are dealing with the BTRs if you’re out of smoke grenades and don’t have an RPG or the Predator Drone yet.
One tip: When you’re on top of Nates fending off waves of enemies, position the sentry gun so that it’s facing the ladder. It will take care of any enemies that try to sneak in so you can focus on sniping.
Especially once you get the Predator drone, spam the sh!t out of it. If any enemy is poking out of a window or a bush, take them out. You get unlimited uses until you move the VIP into Burgertown so make use of it while you can.
Otherwise, not much else to add.
The Hornet’s Nest
------------------------
It’s not an easy mission, but if you survived Takedown, you can handle this one.
In the opening firefight, Soap is going to mention taking out the Sentinel turrets. He’s absolutely right, these things drive around and will rip you to shreds behind cover. Take out the two gunners then focus on the enemies on the rooftops as I find they cause more trouble than those on the ground. Once you take out everyone on the rooftops, then focus on the ground troops.
Past that, I don’t know, but I always defaulted to taking the left-most path. I personally found it easier to sweep across and deal with enemies that way than charging through the middle, but that’s just me.
The section that gave me the hardest part was the one right before reaching the markets. You need to take out the Sentinel gunner quick as he’ll tear you to shreds, and for whatever reason, enemies loved throwing grenades at this portion. It’s not World at War bad, but it was definitely a noticeable difficulty spike.
Eventually, you’ll reach a point where you’re going through the markets and enemies are seemingly hidden behind every corner. I honestly found that akimbo-Uzis worked really well, truly just spray and pray and enemies struggle to stop you.
The last section is pretty on-rails and easy to finish.
Exodus
----------
I have no idea why, but the opening segment was giving me trouble. Foley would keep screaming to run to the houses but I would get shot from every which place and be unable to get to the first checkpoint. My eventual strategy was to stay on Honey Badger’s left side and take out the one enemy sprinting to the car. From there, I then shifted across, took out the enemies on the white houses’ roof and sprinted to its porch while instructing the Honey Badger to focus on the red house in front of it (yeah, ignore Foley talking about the yellow house for now).
Once you get your first checkpoint, it goes much smoother as the enemies are mostly clustered in homes rather than spread everywhere. I personally didn’t have much, if any trouble, until it came to crossing the bridge and destroying the SAM sites as the Honey Badger tears through enemies and your allies are surprisingly useful. Just remember to keep lazing on targets as the Honey Badger ignores them otherwise.
For that section, I found that pursuing the red brick house to the immediate left rather than the right was a more fruitful strategy. Once you clear out that home, go across the street to the multi-story brick home, then finish up with the home with a pool in the backyard. For all these homes, you have to go room-to-room, story-to-story as enemies LOVE hiding and shooting you in the back when you try and leave. Thankfully, it’s usually just one or two of them in each room so it shouldn’t be too difficult taking them out.
Past that, once you are assigned to reach the VIP, you will encounter one enemy looking through the fridge so be sure to take him out and then the level should be done.
The Only Easy Day…Was Yesterday
-------------------------------------------------
This is a pretty straight-forward mission with one or two sections that might cause you trouble. The first two breaches are really easy and should cause you no troubles, as should the first major firefight (after you blow up the C4). Once you work your way up the stairs, this is where things can get tricky. You see, enemies will spawn across the catwalk that makes it hard to hit them consistently (I found that the AUG with a scope generally did well in this section, but it’s not completely necessary. I will say, KEEP A SHOTGUN for this section. There are a lot of close quarters fighting and the shotgun works wonders at keeping enemies at bay when they try and rush you).
Once you cross an invisible line, enemies will start parachuting down and a helicopter will appear. You have to run to the room in your right, that helicopter shreds through you like butter otherwise. The issue is that the room on your right will be filled with guards so what I did was immediately spring to that room, throw a flashbang to stun any enemies there and then lay a claymore from where I came (as enemies occasionally try to sneak behind you) and stay behind the crate of barrels. The helicopter can’t shoot at you from here and this provides you some cover to take out the enemies in that room. Once you’ve taken out everyone, I found that the AT4 worked pretty well at taking out the chopper. Just aim a little higher, like at its rotor when it’s stopped and it should go down.
The next session is not so bad. I found going on the catwalk with Soap to be easier than the ground level with Ghost so follow Soap and take out any stragglers on the way as they love to run around and then shoot you in the back.
The final section with the smoke…all I can say is stay back and take out enemies slowly and methodically while using cover whenever you can.I found the right hand side to be easier than the left hand side. Also note that you need to take out ALL enemies before you can complete the final breach.
As for the final breach, there will be an enemy on your right-hand side who will rush you with a knife. Take them out first, otherwise he will kill you. Also, pace your shots as there are explosives and shooting any one of them causes you to set them off. But honestly, once you take out the guy with the knife, the rest are like a shooting gallery.
The Gulag
---------------
Most of this is pretty straight-forward (snipe enemies on the tower, then move into the gulag to open the doors, but there’s one section that might cause trouble. It’s when you move down the stairs and Ghost is trying to open the doors as you are being surrounded on all sides by enemies. On easier difficulties, you can take most of the enemies out but on Veteran, I found it really difficult. So listen to Soap and use a Riot Shield for protection. Even when you get out of that cell and need to go block-to-block killing enemies, he’ll say that he’ll use the shield and you can take them out behind him. Don’t, enemies like shooting at you and not Soap. So simply run ahead with the Riot Shield and melee everyone, they’ll be too busy trying to melee you to break your shield down.
Past that, the level is pretty straight-forward and easy so not much more I can add.
Of Their Own Accord
----------------------------
Not too difficult (unless you’re going for that achievement to down 10 helicopters with a javelin, then good luck). The hardest section is right before you take out the Javelin nest (where you’re “proceeding to the 5th floor”) as there are quite a bit of enemies and they love hiding behind desks. Here, the grenade launcher is your best friend as desks don’t stop explosions.
Additionally, before grabbing the Javelin, use all your claymores and set up shop. The section where the enemies try and come in can be quickly resolved if you spend a second or two of set-up and fill the entire hallways with claymores as enemies seem to love running right into them.
Otherwise, nothing different from what you’ve handled before. Also, pretty sure the helicopter part is impossible to die on.
Contingency
-----------------
This has arguably the hardest section in the game and it’s near the very end. Everything up until then is pretty easy due to how scripted the game is, like the stealth portions (just listen to Price and you’ll do fine) and the opening firefight where you have access to a Predator missile that can take out hordes of enemies. So really, listen to Price and then take your time and use and abuse the Predator missile to take out any hordes of enemies as well as enemies trying to hide.
It’s the section when you need to get into the sub that’s difficult, as when Soap says you have a couple of minutes…you only have a couple of minutes. 2 to be exact. By my count, you get roughly 4 uses of the Predator missile during that whole section so you can’t afford to waste it.
When Soap tells you to soften their defenses, I always went after the chopper first as that will always give you the most headache otherwise. Then starts the clock. If you have a grenade launcher, use it on the 10 or so enemies in front of you as they’ll be too shocked at the helicopter exploding to do shoot you before the grenade goes off.
Go the right hand side and there will be three enemies camped there. Take them out. At this point, you should have access to a second Predator missile. Use it to quickly scan where the enemies are. If there are any hordes of them, use the missile to take them out. Otherwise, save it and move towards the objective. You want to reach the halfway point with around a minute left as it should give you a checkpoint and the last section is by far the hardest.
In regards to moving up, once enemies start spawning, this is a good time to use your Predator missile and take most of them out so you can move forward and get that checkpoint.
Once you get the checkpoint, if you still have your missile, spend it on the vehicle full of enemies to make the last bit easier. I never did, so my strategy for handling the last section was to keep moving forward towards the hangar bay (a sniper usually comes out right before the doors close), then use the Predator missile directly on the objective marker to rid of any enemies there and SPRINT to the objective marker. I usually got there with seconds to spare so it’s going to be a tight squeeze no matter what you do. Dive to prone near the marker as you’ll probably be shot at from multiple angles. However, you don’t have the timer on you so you can focus on slowly peeking and taking out enemies shooting at you. Occasionally, you’ll be downed and you’ll have to repeat the checkpoint, but I found that was the most effective method as eventually, luck will be on your side and you’ll take out all enemies and get to the final part (cover Price) that is really easy. You can honestly do nothing and I think the mission will conclude (not 100% sure, so just use your Predator missile on groups of enemies to make sure the mission finishes).
Second Sun
-----------------
Honestly, I don’t remember much of this level, other than I didn’t die once so it shouldn’t cause too many issues.
Whiskey Hotel
--------------------
Similarly, I didn’t die once during this level. There is one section that might cause some difficulty and that’s when you’re in the Whitehouse briefing room. Just staying back and taking out enemies outside the room first before focusing on the indoors was something that worked for me. Other than that, near the end, you’ll hear Foley talk about “We have 2 minutes to reach the rooftop, we have to go now!” Again, there’s no timer so feel free to take your time. However, I think I was able to finish that section in under 2 minutes as enemies seem to love targeting your allies instead of you. So take your time, but even then, this section shouldn’t bother you.
Loose Ends
----------------
This and Takedown might be the hardest missions in the game (while Contingency might have the hardest section). The game will start with the mine ambush and you’ll be seemingly attacked from all sides. Prioritize the enemies on the cliffsides as they seemingly have a hit list out for you. If you want to make it easier, before the mines explode, walk along the cliffside as it makes it harder for them to hit you. Once you clear the cliffside enemies, you can wade through the smoke, enemies seemingly are more interested in running away than actually shooting at you so taking them out should be no problem.
You’ll then see Makarov’s safehowse and two vehicles will drive past. Ignore them, they’re scripted to get shot down by Archer. Instead, an additional two vehicles will park at his driveway and 5 or so enemies will come out. I found using the grenade launcher an easy way to take out at least 4 of them.
When it comes to breaching, none of the enemies rush at you so it should be pretty easy. When it comes to defending the DSM, my advice is to set up shop on the staircase overlooking the front door. This allows you to funnel enemies into the front and makes it (relatively) hard for them to shoot at you. As for claymore setup, I made sure to set up a couple behind me to act as fallback in case someone rushes at me or if I needed to reload in a dangerous situation. Otherwise, the remainder was used blocking the basement and preventing enemies from rushing through there.
For whatever reason, this section seemed easier than when I did it 10+ years ago. I recall dying constantly, like it being the second coming of One Shot, One Kill. But here, it was pretty manageable. Once you collect the DSM is when it gets tricky. You’re tasked with getting to the chopper but there are way too many enemies and since this section is out in a field, there is next to no cover and you run the risk of having yourself surrounded. In this case, I hogged the right hand side with a grenade launcher handy and shot at any enemy I spotted. Eventually, I was able to break free and from there, the mission pretty much auto-completes for you.
The Enemy of my Enemy
----------------------------------
Honestly, I found that keeping the silenced weapons was the way to go. Just keep moving and taking out enemies and most will not know you’re there. Otherwise, always try and be in the opposite direction of where they’re spawning from. So if they’re coming in from the right hand side, stay to the left. That will allow to sneak past a good portion of the section or only have to deal with a couple of enemies rather than an army.
The one part you should stay back and take everyone out is when you reach the end of a plane and down below you see a giant battlefield (Nikolai’s plane is also scripted to fly past and he will start swearing at Price in Russian). Stay back and take everyone out as this section is wide-open enough to cause problems if you try and dash forward. Thankfully, you have a sniper and they don’t so it shouldn’t be too difficult.
One part that gave me trouble is the chopper as it loves fixating on you and the enemy stryker cannot shoot it down for sh*t. Just stay near the enemy Stryker as it will completely ignore you while protecting you from chopper fire.
Just Like Old Times
--------------------------
For this mission, I found it was generally best to separate from Price when it comes to firefights as he does a good job at having enemies focused on him while you can shoot at them from behind or their side. (Also, when he tells you to grab a Riot Shield, you have to grab one. The enemies are scripted to kill you if you try to cross without the Shield out).
But yes, in general, stay behind cover and try to split up with Price as he does a decent job of taking fire and even eliminating some enemies. Weird, but I found it very effective for this mission.
As for the last breach, note that there are explosives everywhere and an enemy will rush to knife you on your right hand side. Take him out first otherwise you will die and you have to restart from checkpoint. Past that, it’s like the final breach in The Only Easy Day where most enemies will be like a shooting gallery so take your down and avoid shooting any explosives.
Endgame
-------------
My advice only pertains to the boat section as the rest practically plays itself. For the boat section, constantly have your finger on the trigger as Price doesn’t do a good job at taking out enemies here. Additionally, constantly bob left and right. I found that enemies had a harder time tracking you and hitting you if you kept moving right-to-left and left-to-right while going in a straight-line meant you were almost always toast. Kinda the opposite of the snowmobile where your goal is just to go as fast as possible, here, you want to maneuver and doge as much as possible. Once you get the main area, it's mostly chasing down Shepherd and at that point, you can consider the achievement yours!
Hopefully, this guide was helpful in having you guys go through Veteran. Pleas let me know if there’s anything else I can add to make it better.
You can honestly do nothing and I think the mission will conclude (not 100% sure, so just use your Predator missile on groups of enemies to make sure the mission finishes).

The old Recruit-Veteran glitch from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered still works. Once you get to the last checkpoint in each mission on Recuit, save and quit. Select the mission you left on, but pick Veteran. As the game loads, dashboard and close the application. Do this quickly. Start the game back up and continue your level. Instead of Recruit, you'll be able to finish each level on Veteran.
There is an exploit that allows you to play the game on Recruit difficulty and still complete missions on Veteran.
Instructions:
- Mission select on recruit difficulty
- Play to the final checkpoint.
- Save and Quit.
- Mission select the same mission on Veteran
- Quit immediately upon loading
- Load the game and "Resume Game"
- You'll be at the last checkpoint, and on Veteran difficulty. Complete the mission.

This is for completing the campaign on Hardened or Veteran difficulty, but since you need to play on Veteran to unlock the individual mission achievements below, just skip Hardened and play on Veteran. It is available from the start. If you've already played through the game on a lower difficulty, you can select each mission from the menu.
Veteran difficulty in this game is not as difficult as previous (or future) Call of Duty games and while you still need to be careful and follow basic higher-difficulty game strategies, it is more forgiving than other games in this series.

Veteran difficulty in this game is not as difficult as previous (or future) Call of Duty games and while you still need to be careful and follow basic higher-difficulty game strategies, it is more forgiving than other games in this series.
Here are a few tips to help you through this difficulty:
- While you may choose to do so, it might be difficult to unlock any of the random achievements or obtain any intel on this difficulty. The reason being is that they will only distract you from surviving if you are going out of your way to do random tasks.
- Be Patient. Unless you're being timed, do not rush. Use cover and go prone as needed. Unlike a few other games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 does not have unlimited enemy spawns or grenade spams. This means that you can take your time and methodically kill everyone before moving up.
- Let your teammates do the heavy lifting. The main characters in the game cannot die. As such, let them charge into rooms and clear them for you as they can be very effective.
- Don't forget your grenades. In many missions you will happen upon supply crates so you can replenish your stock if needed, but don't be afraid to use them.
- Watch out for explosions. Vehicles and explosive barrels will kill you instantly. Be sure that if you take cover near one that it has already exploded; otherwise you might be in for a very annoying surprise.
- If you are truly stuck on any mission, feel free to search YouTube for mission walkthroughs. They may show you something you hadn't thought of.
