How to unlock the We Own the Night achievement in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - Definitive Guide

This achievement takes place on the mission Going Dark.

If you get spotted, if you're fast enough you can revert to last checkpoint. When going for this achievement, I highly recommend that your turn the subtitles on so that you can see when the enemies are speaking. This is particularly useful when trying to find if there’s another person patrolling in the area. Another thing I noticed is that when you go to a different area, some of the enemies will be trying to contact the people from the pool area for example to see what they’re doing. If they get no response then you've killed enough people in that area.

This achievement takes place after you repel down the mountain from Captain Price. First off, I recommend heading to the Pool area first as it’s the closest. Head right from the area you drop down and you’ll see the pool. Jump onto the sandbags to navigate over the wall and you will see two enemies by a lit fire, take them both out. Next you will want to deactivate the power for the pool which is found nearby the fire. Once you’ve done that jump on the dumpster to get onto the roof. When up here you will have a great view of the enemies from inside. Take out the enemies from the roof and jump on down. Once down patrol the building for any remaining enemies. Then interact with the hostage.

Next make your way to the Courtyard area by heading out the entrance near the fireplace and turn right after you go past the small building. Now by this point a few enemies may be walking to the pool section. I recommend taking them out just in case as they could potentially find one of the bodies from earlier. Continue up the road and you’ll come across the Courtyard.

Next you will want to deactivate the power to the Courtyard which is directly in front of you. Also shoot out the streetlights if possible as it’ll make navigating around easier. Head on inside through the window on the left side of the building and make sure to not get spotted and take care of the enemies inside. Also, by this point an enemy vehicle will be patrolling the map so make sure you are out of sight when it approaches. Before leaving the courtyard, double check the building and the outskirts for any other enemies.

Head from the Courtyard to the Church by following the path via the left side. The Church gave me the biggest trouble as there isn’t many places to hide whilst outside in the graveyard. When in the graveyard I recommend that you take your time to make sure that an enemy isn’t close to another enemy, reason being is that if you kill them when they’re near someone else then they can get suspicious of your presence. The power switch for the Church can be found in the graveyard on the left side.

Take your time navigating the graveyard, then head on inside and you will see 2-3 enemies in there. Take them down whilst inside. By this point I thought I had killed all of them so I waited around a bit checking the graveyard and some enemies from the road walked into the perimeter. I dealt with them and the achievement unlocked.

If you are still struggling, feel free to use this as a reference.

If you don't interrogate the prisoners, the technical will never come, which is a good thing.

I really really seriously thought about trying to take out the technical too! I was pondering head on shots on both in the cab and a headshot on the gunner.... act like a real Delta Force.. :-D

Above comments re: not talking to hostages are correct - makes the achievement so much easier as you can clear out the enemies without the technical & additional patrols.

I’ve just done this on veteran and I interrogated the prisoners, I reloaded my checkpoint a few times but it popped on my way to the house clearing up a few outside. Patience is key.

I took out everyone on the map. Took forever to find the last one patrolling the courtyard.

Restarting from checkpoint worked fine whenever I made a mess of things.

Do not interact with the hostages. Makes it 10x easier. Just take everyone out but don’t talk to the hostages

Is it okay if you kill an enemy and another enemy later discovers the corpse?

Can confirm that as long as you are not spotted, personally, the corpses can be found and you just have to kill the enemies that find them. Stay away from the technical and just keep cycling around the area. I found that the church has a lot of people come into it as you kill more enemies. Boost your dialogue to almost 100 so that you can hear the little dialogue bits and find the last few enemies. It only takes like 3-5 seconds for the achievement to pop when you kill the last guy

I would like to add--I restarted checkpoint anytime I even thought I had alerted enemies.
Also, don't worry about enemies seeing dead bodies, it didn't void the achievement at all for me, and I let a LOT of them see dead bodies!
They can talk about "I'm sure there's someone out there, if I find you I'm going to kill you.."
You just can't let them say "I see you" and the followup music cue I think, I always reset checkpoint when that happened.
I missed a couple 2nd floor courtyard after killing everyone everywhere and even a few at the next objective...
It popped after I cleared the courtyard 2nd floor, I went back through looking for any I missed.
Like someone else said, DON'T Interrogate any prisoners! Much easier that way, I did it the hard way.

Even though it might seem obvious I figured I’d share this because my achievement didn’t pop right away even those I was certain I was never caught. You have to fully clear each area by killing EVERY ENEMY in and around those 3 areas. I missed a soldier at the pool area and had to circle back to find him inside. As soon as I killed him the achievement popped. Use the subtitles as this greatly helped and made me realize I must have missed someone as it continued to say “I haven’t heard from 2 prisoner teams do you think there’s a breach?” There’s 3 prisoner teams (one for each location) so if you hear this once you’ve saved all 3 hostages and are told to proceed to the Main House then you know you missed someone and have to double back. This achievement can also be done while trying to acquire “Lights Out”. Happy Hunting!

---Mission 13: Going Dark---

TIPS:
1. DO NOT talk to hostages
2. Turn ON Subtitles & Use headphones
3. Turn OFF lights to each building & street lights
4. Be fast to PAUSE & RELOAD CHECKPOINT
5. Leave the person yelling at the hostage for last
6. It’s OK for enemies to see you, take them out quick

Using those tips you shouldn't have too much trouble :) #1 is most important!

+ With every miscellaneous Achievement use "Reload Checkpoint" to your advantage, also difficulty won't void any of these so you can do them all on Recruit

A few tips:

Recruit difficulty, obviously. Anything else is unnecessary.

Shoot streetlights as much as you can get away with.

You must kill enemies on the grounds surrounding each building, but you dont have to kill enemies in unrelated buildings or patrolling the streets.

Subtitles on so you can understand enemy comms.

Look around for surrounding enemies before engaging.

Always cut the power before entering.

Pick up suppressed rifles and SMGs that are laying around. I know of at least one Famas and one AK.

Check the roof of the pool and the second floor of the clock tower. I don't recommend breaching the pool through the roof, however.

Don't talk to hostages until the achievement pops. Talking to hostages triggers enemy spawns and patrols. If you don't talk to your first hostage, the enemy truck won't even spawn. Leaving the grounds of an area will change the objective from "talk to the hostage" to "search the clocktower, etc."

Kill the interrogators last. Their talking muffles the noise you're making and keeps enemies from wondering if something is wrong.

Probe for the best entrances. The first one you find might not offer the best route.

Surround sound. Headests or home theatre speakers will help drastically.

You can revisit areas if you miss some or it doesn't pop.

Be quick if you need to restart checkpoints. It won't void the achievement.

Happy hunting. This one is tough.

Thank you, this one took me 20+ minutes of searching after clearing everyone. My last guy was in the graveyard to the left of the church

The wording for this achievement is a little misleading.

Set difficulty to recruit and stealth kill EVERYONE you encounter in and around the Pool (including the building next door to the pool) Clocktower and Church, with the exception of the guys in the technical. They drive right over corpses so don’t worry about leaving bodies in your wake. I was killing enemies just in the buildings and it wasn’t counting. You have to kill everyone.

Don’t talk to the guys who were being interrogated so you have a couple of save points.

Mission 13: Going Dark

After the opening section, the area opens up to three main buildings: Pool House, Clocktower, and Church. You need to eliminate all of the enemies in/around these building without setting off any alarms. Enemies can notice you, as long as you eliminate them before they react. You can utilize checkpoints if backup is called.

Clocktower = 10 Enemies (eliminate the 2 upstairs and the 1 at the barricaded back exit behind the building. The other 7 are either inside or roaming in the yard or street).

- Church = 13 Enemies (4 Left Side, 3 Right Side, 4 Inside, 2 are roaming the general area, often around the left side of the church).

- Pool House = 12 Enemies (2 at power switch behind the building, 3 inside the pool where the hostage is, 1 in the garden behind/below pool house, 6 outside / on roof / roaming the area).

DO NOT INTERACT WITH THE HOSTAGES!

Doing so spawns a few more enemies that roam the area in an APC. Though they don’t count for the trophy, they just make your life difficult. The trophy unlocks when the enemies are dead, rather than when you complete any objectives.

Once you know that, it’s a simple matter of taking your time, picking the baddies off one-by-one. Hitting the power switches at each place will lure one guy from inside each building.

For my play through....

There were 7 in the pool area (Don’t forget to check the roof if you miss any) *Power switch is located through the iron gate to your front-right as you approach the compound after rappelling*

There were 3 roaming outside the front of the clock tower building.
There were 7 in the clock tower building (2 were on the upper floor) *Power Switch is on the far left of the clock tower if you look at the building from the front*
There were 10 in church area (4 inside, 6 outside. There’s one sneaky dude that wanders the wooded area in the SE corner) *Power switch is on the S side of the church*

I had one guard searching a car behind the clocktower. Even at Veteran it is easier than it seems, if you just shoot lights outdoors, turn off the power at each building and listen to what Price says (i.e. when he hints that somebody is next to you). If you get spotted just go to the last checkpoint.

Mission 13: "Going Dark"

When you get to the main estate grounds, you'll be given three objective markers to investigate the Pool, Clock Tower, and the Church. For this achievement, you'll need to kill every enemy around the estate without an alert being raised. This doesn't necessarily mean you can't be seen, but you must kill the enemies before they yell out for help.

Turning off the power to all three buildings makes this far easier, since you'll be able to see enemies without them seeing you unless they're right next to you with their flashlights. Refer to Lights Out (30G) for disabling the power to each building. The killing of the enemies without alerts is very easy to do because there are a ton of checkpoints, and with the lights off it's really easy to see their flashlights coming from far away, and they can't detect you. The only annoying part is actually finding every single enemy in this area, because the achievement won't unlock until every enemy is dead. The ones inside each building are the most obvious and easy to kill. Just be aware that the second floor of the Clock Tower has a few enemies, and there's no reason to go upstairs except to kill those enemies for this achievement, so make it a point to do so. There is also an enemy outside the Clock Tower behind it, just standing there, so don't forget him either.

In general, sweep through every room of each building, and do a lap around the outside of every building, to ensure you don't miss any enemies. This achievement unlocks as soon as the last enemy is dead, not after the mission is completed, so don't interact with the hostage in the Church until you've cleared out all enemies and unlocked this achievement. If you get seen by the APC and it seems like enemies yelled for help, reload your checkpoint. Enemies yelling out in surprise when they see you does not void this achievement, only when they whistle and/or yell for backup.

When completing this achievement, I advise you not to interact with hostages. Ignore Price's orders and simply clear the clock tower, church and pool of enemies. Don't forget that there are enemies both inside and outside.

The achievement should clear as soon as you kill the last enemy.
